I campaigned a '72 LT-1 on the streets in the late 1970's. Actually owned the car for about 3 months before I really learned how to drive it. It was a 3.70 geared car. For maximum performance, I'd come out of the hole above 3500 rpm and keep it there. Below that, the factory 780 double pumper would cause it to stumble, but above 3500 it was a monster. The best shift points were actually around 6300 rpm, but I never really watched the tach all that closely -- you listen to the engine. The car would easily run 60 in 1st gear, 95 in 2nd, and 137 in 3rd, and bark the tires shifting into 4th. Some may doubt that, but it's the truth. I raced against some fast stuff, and some of the races were close -- until 4th gear. And then it was over for them -- every time. From there the car would quickly run on up to about 160. I raced other '72 LT-1's and beat them all, but not by much. Had I raced a '70, I would have expected to lose. From what I understand, they were crazy fast in the right hands and with the right amount of traction. I bought my car in 1976 with 38,000 original miles on it, paid $1000 more for it than it cost new, and owned it 4 times.

Why would you have a car and not drive it? I get the sentiment, but the fun is to drive a car you buy. A car is NEVER a good investment and should never be looked at that way. It’s a machine that will degrade and depreciate over time. Might as well have fun driving it.

this is not what i do with my low mileage cars, I drive the crap out of them, some poor guy worked really hard so i could enjoy his car, and I'm gonna enjoy it myself and not let some other guy enjoy something I worked hard to keep new instead of enjoying it myself. obviously still keep it as nice and maintained as you can, but never be afraid to use enjoy and yes abuse something that WILL wear out. it might as well be you that gets the most fun out of the things you own. also older super low mileage cars always have a ton of weathered, decayed, and dry rotted stuff that no one notices until something breaks at the worst possible time, the one time you are trying to have a really fun time. but if you regularly put the car through its paces, you will find all that stuff, and she will be ready to go when you want to take her out on a road trip, or a fancy date, or a twisty back road. and for the sake of your sanity and the car, if you love the car, DO NOT use big box store parts. they are junk. use OEM parts, they cost twice as much, but last four times as long.

They were capable of well over 500 hp. Motor as installed in a Boss 429 Mustang was severely strangled by a much too small carb, mild cam that wasn't even tailored to the Boss's valvetrain geometry, and horribly restrictive exhaust manifolds. Somewhere between 375 and 425 was actually probably the real output of a stock Boss 9. I knew a guy who's father bought him one as his high school graduation present right off the showroom. He drove it a year or so and parked it behind their farm's shop after it broke a rocker arm. He didn't bother fixing it because he was tired of being beaten by small block cars. The motor was awesome and exotic in race form. In stock homogulation form it was not that impressive. Not its fault, but the truth. Ford should have put the Boss motor in Torinos and give it a decent cam, bigger carb, and freer flowing exhaust. The Torino platform would have made much more sense.

People in the world are always doing car promotion advertisements. What about CZcamsrs? Well, these CZcamsrs are in their lives. The 70 LT-1 Corvette is a real performance car, power steering not air conditioning was available. Duntov was keen on this engine and in a Motor Trend interview back in 1970, he said that street Corvettes should use the wide ratio four speed versus close ratio.
