    I have a question about the plastic trim cover directly underneath the head rest on the top of the seat back cushion. Can that top plastic cover be replaced without tearing down the seats or removing leather?

    • @derrickg5612
      @derrickg5612 Před rokem

      You should be able to replace it without doing all that. I've never tried to do it on a BMW seat but I've done it before on some Audi seats from the early 2000s. On those you have to release a tab(s) that's accessible with the head rest removed and located on the inside (center) of the trim in question.

    2:15 my seat back has slipped off one of those levers making the seat back unstable. How can I put it back together or do I need to buy a whole seat?

    • @derrickg5612
      @derrickg5612 Před 4 lety

      That's hard to say without looking at the seat, but I would take the seat back panel off like I did just before I explained how to separate the two halfs. Then see if those levers have come loose somehow. Some of these seats also have bolts instead of levers. They're in the same location just make sure you identify which setup you have. Also. If it just came loose, and nothing else is wrong, you should be able to push it back into place until you hear it click. Then you know it's seated in place.

    Thanks for the clear explanation and taking the time to post this. I wish you had also included steps on removing the seat back leather. I have the sport seats in my own '03 540i and am retrofitting heated seat elements into both the seat bottom and backrest areas. The job requires complete removal of both leathers in order to attach the heating elements directly underneath the leather. I was considering hiring a pro to do the job, but after watching this I may just do it myself.

    • @derrickg5612
      @derrickg5612 Před 4 lety

      Thanks for watching. I never took the seat back leather off, but I would imagine the most difficult part is removing the head rest. The leather attaches to the seat frame by hooking into the metal tabs on the back and by hog rings, similar to the seat bottom leather. Before you attempt to remove it completely, try to detach it just enough to get the heating element in place and secure. This leather is old and easy to work with, so that might give you just enough wiggle room.

    Updates? I also switched to Liqui Moly recently from Mobile One on my W140 and there doesn't seem to be much difference but the car does seem pretty smooth. Have you tried using Liqui Moly 2009 Anti-Friction Oil Treatment? I heard that legit makes a difference and I might try that soon

    • @derrickg5612
      @derrickg5612 Před 4 lety

      I haven't tried that oil treatment you mentioned, but I actually ended up switching oils again after Liqui Moly. I'm now using Amsoil. I did a good amount of research and decided to go with Amsoil because it's 100% synthetic, as opposed to fully synthetic oil. That gives it longer life and better anti-friction properties. My 540 still has Vanos knock. That's just how it is unless I rebuild or replace them. There is a channel called "Projectfarm" who did a lot of oil testing, so you may want to check him out if you haven't already.

    Was it in the instructions to dare driving while oil flush additive is in the engine. Ehat i used was strong and there was adviced idle only for 5 mins( i did 20, and slightly revved it just to make it flood around with higher pressure). Oil coming out was very grainy and clumps like gel came out. I flushed it after with new oul only twice and 3d i filled a bit to level up a bit of oil in the pan before i tapped it. Then i made the filtre change and filled her up. After all i have been reading about oil flush and the experience i when i flushed some years later make me doubt doing it again. After first experience oil consumption went far down and oil looked newfilled for a year. Other time i had the flush in for 10 minutes. And engine started to use oil again and smoked blue for weeks. So that made me decide never to flush it again. And now i have Bmw and i still considering if i am going to flush or just do oil and filtre change. Also i had good experience with omega oil seal additive on the steering on my cabincruiser(hydraulic steering) it sealed the leak. But in a car engine i wouldn’t. The additive works on leaking seals and o-rings. But it is not good that the additive swelling up o-rings and seals which are in good condition. That means additives dont just pick one seal. It affects on every😊
