And they do not invest enough in their management team to make them become good leaders. Becoming an entrepreneur is a viable option. Globally, there are over a half a billion entrepreneurs. Many others are doing online side jobs. I started my business 25 years ago. Do your homework. Find people you can trust to coach you. The opportunity is truly great. There is no more creating engagement after an organisation bullys and threatens you to participate an in experimental medical procedure to keep your job. Only disengagement left. you reap what you sow.
SOME COMPANIES AND MANAGERS ARE UNETHICAL AND WILL NEVER CHANGE. FIND ANOTHER JOB.
Nothing is going to turn the ship around after an organisation forces its employees to participate in experimental medical procedures. BS surveys, meetings and training will never reverse anything and just exacabates the situtaion.

So true! Without organizational trust we have disengaged employees and toxic environments.
We want people who are cognitive and aware of their surroundings and are thinking. So, If you are dealing with all the minutia of every step that they need to follow, then you’re enabling them to stay stupid. I found in my experience that a mediocre employee can be improved by putting good rules and policies and fences around them. There’s a process to evaluate that. If you challenge most people in the right way, they want to prove that they can meet that challenge. You’re creating these little benchmarks, these little milestones and you’re patting them on the head every time they reach the milestone. If you’re training a dog and he’s not supposed to jump up on the couch, but you let him jump up on the couch on Fridays. Does he know what day Friday is? Does he know that he’s going to jump up on the couch on Monday, and then you’re yelling at him? Why are you yelling at me? You told me it was okay yesterday. What’s going on? It’s the same thing with people. It’s the same thing with your employees. You got to be consistent too.
Your team can only follow the instructions as you present them - take more time to think through what you want them to do before you assign it. You're pointing at the managers, and if a company has an engagement problem, the managers are no more engaged than the general employee population. Consider this, work is something people have to do to survive. What is the base lin for how engaged they should be, and who came up with that baseline based on what? The employee engagement market is enormous and has been for decades. Despite the billions invested and the exponential growth of HR Tech and EE/EX experts, no one tells success stories, explaining what approach was used and how the transformation impacted business metrics. The Conference Board and Gallup never provide statistics on transformations. If the needle never moves, there's a good chance the solutions are snake oil. Where are the success stories?
Hi Je Smith: You bring up a good point with many managers not engaged. My experience shows that executives and managers alike are the challenge. Earlier in my career I worked for a company owner that was a bad boss. However, by learning how to lead and engage people my teams greatly improved results when other managers did not.. So, guess what? My boss left me alone to do my job. Most other managers can do the same. But, they have to be willing to change and get better. As a consultant/coach I have many success stories improving company's customer experience and employee engagement scores that increased organizational sales and profits. In addition, it helped employees make more money, too. How? Focusing on people first and treating them as partners. It is a Servant Leadership approach!
