Compression plugs suck. I have always had some form of seepage from them and if you over tighten them and bend that thin brass plate - they can get themselves uneven and push out a bit.

Some people might laugh at this PSA but I live aboard my boat right next to the boat ramp and have watched literally 100+ boats sink on the ramp because the boaters did NOT put the plugs in. So yeah, this is serious stuff.

I've actually done this and not realised I forgot to put the plugs in until I was already half way down the river and I turned the engine off an noticed the bilge pump on instantly check the console of my boat an sure enough the plugs where still in there so I had to put the boat on a plane get my friend to steer the boat while I hang out the back screwing the plugs in I felt so dumb as I've grown up in boats and still made the rookie mistake it never happened again though 😂😂😂 so I agree mate very serious stuff even the most experienced boaters can still make this mistake now I tend to put them in before I even hook the trailer up and head to the ramp it's legit the first thing I do before I load my gear even before I even hook the earmuffs up and give it a quick run to make sure it starts first go because if you hold up the boat ramp you'll make people mad af people think road rage is bad they've never been to the boat ramp on a Saturday and launched there boat ramp rage is real 😂😂😂

@@notyaboymatty5907 I was just talking to my wife a few weeks ago about drain plugs that can only be put in from the outside of the boat. That idea just seems so.... 'daring.' I'll use the word daring because otherwise I'd have to say it's a bloody bad idea to have it that way. Like in your case it would have been great to be able to wind the plug in easily while inside the boat. Ah the adventures of boating!

@@daleanderson1727 right and I live in Australia where all the rivers are full of salt water crocodiles so it was crazy on my part but had legit no choice had to get the boat planing so water would drain out while I screwed them in and had no time to get back to the boat ramp so it was get those plugs in or sink it took the bilge over 5 minutes to drain the majority of the water that's why now it's always the first thing I do because last thing I'm ever doing again is hanging out the back of the boat in a croc infested river with my arms in the water because my heart was pounding that day
