Marx guy here, is the Flyer cast or tin? I bought a 1932 prewar Flyer 420 shell which I`m attempting to install a Marx 400 s/r motor in. Pray for Me?

I would have liked to have seen the motor that powered it, by flipping it over . You might want to consider that in future videos. The half hour episodes were great, but in 1961 it went to one hour and change format, bad decision.

This actually looks like it's one of the older ones made by Pittman. Bowser changed the step castings, and a few other subtle things. The pittman trolleys often came with working poles that could be setup for overhead current collection. You could also wire them so that depending which pole was raised, the car would reverse.

Are you using conventional control or DCS? Assuming nothing is wrong DCS should allow you to access all features.

I just picked one of these 8857's up in great condition at a flea market type antique store. It also runs great, nice and smooth in both forward and reverse. I like the three position e-unit it shifts position beautifully. Too bad it lacks a horn, but to over come that I use one of Lionel's sound boxcars right behind it. The boxcar has a diesel horn, motor sounds and crew talk so that really enhances the fun of running this fine locomotive. Although it only has a single pullmore motor it's powerful enough to pull a nice consist of cars. I usually pull about ten cars with it but I know it can do many more.

I have same set that I bought in 1981 and in that era the best way to run them is dummy in front and the powered unit behind the dummy. The reason was that engine only had one motor and its easier to push than pull.. Btw this also applies to the u36b's and any one motor engine. Great engine set have fun.
