    I have liberal friends who actually support the people Colton is talking about. These people actually HAVE horses and love them! I keep pointing out that the PETA and other groups want to KILL our horses! They don't want to release them, they want EVERY Domestic animal dead! As well as anything that has become feral! These people are deadly serious! Personally I think they, and a lot of other people nowadays, are bat-shit crazy! As to my Liberal friends, they are sadly brainwashed into this stupid frame of mind. By the time this kind of person sees the truth, their horses, dogs, cats, even the goldfish, will be killed by PETA and the rest of these Leftist nutcases! By that time it will be too late and the horses gone. As far as the horse industry is concerned, the horse's lot has improved immeasurably in the past hundred years. These crazy Animal haters (yes, they secretly hate animals! Why else would they want to kill off all domestic animals?) are dangerous. You need to be VERY CAREFUL to the charities you send money to. Organizations like Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) are frauds! They are in the business of getting rid of domestic animals. Like Colton says the insanity is attacking our country on a variety of levels. They don't want to just get rid of the animals. They want to get rid of commercial and private farming. They want to get rid of Hobby Farms. They want to get rid of your food garden in your back yard. These people want to kill seventy to ninety percent of the Human Population. I know this sounds hard to believe, but it is quite real and well on the way to be accomplished! Thanks Mr. Woods. This was an interesting rant!😁 I'm on the same page with you!

    It's hard to be civil, much less friendly when dealing with antagonistic, emotional idiots, but that's the best strategy when confronted by their kind whether in person, online, or otherwise. Counter lies with truth while remaining calm and humble. I'm not particularly good at this, but I'm always working toward this strategy because I've witnessed its effectiveness from the most persuasive communicators in argumentation. It's also helpful to be familiar with the variety of *logical fallacies* sufficient to point them out while avoiding them when sharing your perspective. We're at such a strange point where absurd notions bring us fights I couldn't have imagined in my early life. Now I have to defend my love of horses? Outrageous.

      The extreme left try to present that regulation is in the best interest of our kids, food supply, animal welfare, money aka taxes, etc yet they only do it for the massive amount of control it gives them. And once they’ve got that power they’ll use it for their own benefit and completely tarnish the lives of those beneath them. How about everyone who loves horses shut down the bad horse people businesses. How many pregnant mares end up at Bowie to be shipped to Mexico..or breeding horses that should never be bred.. There are even shady horse rescues who prey on our emotions so they could fund their personal lives. Trail riding businesses that abuse and starve their horses..When the public sees this of course they have a bad taste in their mouth about horse ownership and will side with those trying to shut down the horse industry..It's a big mess.

    @coltonwoodshorsemanship hello. I have an opportunity to work in the equestrian center at Lake Erie college and get free tuition. It is a full time position that pays 16/hr plus full benefits. I would need to pay for housing which costs about 1300/month because I have 2 dogs that will be coming with me. I have the first year of housing already saved up from my full time barn job that I worked last year. I would like to study equine training and English riding or equine business administration what is your advice for me please? I am 23 years old I have never lived away from home. The college is 1 hr from home and I feel good and ready for the opportunity if I were to be selected for it, the college accepts 1 or 2 students per year. Thank you. I enjoyed your video.

    • @Coltonwoodshorsemanship

      Hey Kathryn- I’d first start with: what is your big vision/goal?? (It’s OK if you don’t know exactly, but you want to at least have some general direction). Per you comment- there’s a big difference (needed skills) between a training career or a business admin career in the horse industry. If you’re not really sure what you want to do- you may be better off going and working for different equine businesses for 6months or so to gain experience and find what you do and don’t like. That would give you real hands on experience, knowledge and allow you to make $$ as you navigate your career choices. If you do have a pretty clear vision of what you’d like to do- then I encourage you to look at the program your considering very objectively and ask yourself ‘is this program going to help me develop the skills i must have to be an asset, respected and wanted by horse industry professionals?’ Horse professionals are ultimately the ones that’ll hire you so that matters a lot. I caution folks with university programs because they teach in utopian perfect world scenarios- not real situations and realities in the horse industry. Most, not all, university programs do not properly prepare students alone and if one decides to go to college, using their connections to get internships & real working opportunities is critical for making it worth you time. I wouldn’t get caught up on free tuition, them only selecting 1 or 2 students or those kind of perks- this decision is about you deciding is it the right choice for you. If you’re seriously considering a training career- I highly recommend www.professionalhorsemanschool.com as you’ll extensive get real hands on training & business experience to develop your skills. Wish you the very best!

    so my daughter is fairly new to western style riding - shes about to graduate from high school and the debate is whether or not to go to a college with equine studies program (which will mean taking on debt) or try to work and gain experience riding and working. she would not be vet science track but more business/training track... but since shes getting a later start than so many, I wonder if college would help her gain more experience or not. super concerned about debt tho.

    • @Coltonwoodshorsemanship
      @Coltonwoodshorsemanship Před 6 měsíci

      Very similar to the start of my journey as well as I ‘got a late start’ but it doesn’t really matter. What matters is where and with who you spend your time continuing to learn and develop real skills that make one capable of getting real results that are valued in the industry. Most colleges really fall short because they teach in theory and for a test- rather than what it takes to actually be successful in the industry- real skills and results. The debt can be well worth it if it helps one develop those skills and ability to get valued results. If you want to send me an email I’m more than happy to help. Been down this road personally and helped others navigate this path as well! office@coltonwoodshorsemanship.com

    I'm a new beginner with my horse she is 14 yrs old has pretty good manners question is how much time do u spend with her a day

    • @Coltonwoodshorsemanship
      @Coltonwoodshorsemanship Před 6 měsíci

      I’d first determine what’s the goal. Is the goal to improve the ground manners? Is the goal to enjoy spending time with her? Either are acceptable we just need to be clear about our why and our intentions. If it’s a skills based goal then I’d spend the time necessary to help achieve noticeable improvement that day. That could take 10minutes, it could take 2hrs. If the goal is to enjoy spending time with her, then I’d certainly say go spend the time you want with the mare. And while you do so if she becomes tiresome of the interactions then ask yourself does she have legit reason to be ‘over it’ because you’ve been grooming her for 3hrs for example. If she does have legit reason for being agitated then I’d ask myself ‘how can I be less annoying?’ That may mean changing what I’m doing or actually just being done for the day cause she’s over it. I don’t want this to be misunderstood- just because a horse gets upset doesn’t mean we should stop. That’s somewhat common sense, it takes discernment, but I’ve learned common sense isn’t so common some days. Main thing is the quality of our interactions with our horses should meet their needs and ours. It’s a partnership. We must be mindful of them physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. And we’d like them to be mindful of us as well.

    I've got a horse who has no training; however, is 'broke to ride' she is incredibly intelligent though but she is just as stubborn as she is smart. My question is how to properly teach her to lunge. She tends to swing and circle her hind quarters only and I have used every technique I have learned over the last 43 years!! Can you suggest anything? She also refuses to lead. At first, I thought this was a trust issue however, this arab actually hogs and protects me from cows five acres away! Ideas?

    • @Coltonwoodshorsemanship
      @Coltonwoodshorsemanship Před 6 měsíci

      Megan- by my standards its not possible for a horse to be broke to ride and have no training. Training is skills based so if the horse has skills, the horse has training. If the horse lacks skills, the horse lacks training. When it comes to your question- my suggestion would be to focus on being able to direct her shoulders from a distance (which is a video I've included earlier in this series). I'd start there and also get each exercise in this series working well for the both of you. That will give you the tools to ultimately get her leading better. And be sure to look at things from the horse's perspective, that gives us the exact information of what we need to do to help them and what the reality of a situation is. We must not allow our clouded vision of feelings and preconceived notions hold us back or get us in a dangerous situation with our horse.

      @@Coltonwoodshorsemanship I used that wording simply because it is the crap I was told. I understand each thing you speak of and have trained horses my entire life. However, what I am seeing this horse needs is a lot of love. She is getting it; however, she still has the same bad habits such as planting her feet when its time to lead. Yes, there are reasons why she would not want to lead away from the other horses but, after this much time, she really should be used to it. I think I will begin to use the lead and twirl it the way you showed me. Previously, i would have the crop with me as an extension of my arm and that would do the trick; however, she is desensitized to it because the first thing I do with her is that she she does not fear it. Therefore, it does absolutely nothing when she tells me no now lol. Shall I practice the distancing you showed?
