Do You Trust Your LIFE With Cheap Recovery Gear?
Power wagon is the most capable-off road HD of the trucks you mentioned. Front and rear lockers. front sway bar disconnect, 4.10 gr. Kind of like a Rubicon HD. Chev does not have that, neither does Ford. The Rebel HD has no front locker or disco, so less off road capable than PW. It does have a diesel option which makes it heavier. Ram(Jeep too) is stupid expensive. I bought a used Tradesman 2500 with the Power wagon option for half price. I use it as a bush truck in BC on FSRs and wet muddy trails, so vinyl interior, rubber floor mats, no fancy add-ons(Not worried about scratching paint). I spent the money I saved on a Carli Pintop lift and 37s. It gets me into where I need to go and back out again.
Yes it is dying, or at least it should be dying: Because it's normal OG car camping but with a shitload more steps and money to impress people who don't care about you on the internet. Overlanding happens automatically if you go: Fishing, hiking, hunting, camping, backpacking, etc. Way too much focus on being comfortable, it's "adventuring" without anything actually adventurous. ~Recovering overlander who fortunately didn't spend 50k on shit for a 10k vehicle.
"recovering overlander" We love it 🤣🤣 YOu've got a point though! Is it really overlanding if it doesnt really involve adventure?
The term "Overlanding" is dumb to begin with!
we prefer "Rocklanding" 😉😉
great show as always!
yo, you showed up on my feed. Do you have anything to do with "donut media"? Some of them guys started doing new stuff and you only have 85 subs. im interested in mechanical engineering and the advancement of technology, so off roading is pretty cool. LMK
Glad to show up on your feed! We ar e not associated with Donut Media, but we do have a ton of info to share for the off road community! Let us know if you have any questions or topics you would love to hear about
I hope it's dying so prices come back down to regular land.
I see Caleb is back with the Casting Couch Set.
the casting couch never left 😅 slightly different camera angle while i set up the big camera as a webcam!
the casting couch will never die
Great advice!!
Thanks for the feedback!
Great video guys! Kim is pumped for this event (unfortunately I’m not allowed to off-road yet)
We're hoping for a speedy recovery for you! Cant wait to see at least half of the DownSouth team there!
@@Dirt2DustShow thanks!
The audio is very poppy
We're working on that!
Here is a short list: - never air down. Manufacturer tire pressure is best - never bring an air compressor. It adds too much weight - never bring a full size spare. Te little one is fine. - always go as fast as possible. Going slow makes it too dusty and no one likes that - always go alone - don’t tell anyone where you’re going. It’s not their business.
Thanks for the great advice.
that's pretty great advice if you want to see other people fail. No gate keeping here!

Question for you, I have a 2022 JL rubicon. The stock m220 rear axle has been trussed, Yukon chromoly axle shafts (32 spline) and re-geared to 4.88 gears. The rear locker has some clunking when the locker is engaged and drives perfect when not engaged. I assume the rear factory locker has been destroyed. I am looking for a replacement locker but can’t find anyone who has a solution for this problem. My local jeep dealership said they could sell me a whole rear axle for $2500. I already have a decent amount of money wrapped up in this axle. Should I cut my losses and upgrade to a 1 ton axle or should I figure out a way to get a new locker? Thanks for the help!
Add more Pennies in the rear differential. It is the best lubricant and can reform missing teeth.
SOLID question! We will answer this in depth on the next Mailbag episode this friday, so be on the lookout!
@@johnmadsen37 another terrible answer.. do you have anything better to do?
40s for life... I am ready for 40s on my SuperDuty
that thing will look great with a set of 40s under it
Caleb Im in for Windrock in August!
Let's make it happen!
I am glad I made not 1 but 2 episodes of the podcast! Great event and great time with old friends and new friends.
😂😂
So i saw a post in the gladiator group that showed people using a yard stick and gluing the ducks it and placing it on the dash to hold them in place.
that makes more sense than gluing them to the dash or using a good double sided tape
According to the duck people they are held on with unicorn dust mixed with the tears of a Jeepers who didn't get a wave and positive thoughts 😂
Hey i didn’t rely on facebook. Calebs iPhone contact info updated it on my phone so I didn’t forget.
Iphones for the win!!
Ok so what stabilizer would you run on a Mojave
We really liked the Fox ATS pass through stabilizer we had on the shop Mojave!
Happy to find you guys out in the you tube-iverse
happy to have you here with us!
Can’t believe you don’t have more subscribers. I’m a Toyota guy but I appreciate jeeps and love the long format off road content. Keep it up!
Thanks for tuning in! We've got a ton more coming!
I live in the Austin area and when I work on the weekends I drive a lot. If I see less than 25 90k jeeps on a Saturday it is a light day. A lifted CRV gets more attention, I am a Toyota guy and they aren't allowed to talk to us apparently. Great episode, you explained quite a few mysteries to me. When I bought my overlander I was unaware I was joining a club. I rarely come to a stop at the grocery store, gas pump, etc.. and not have someone approach me... Except for Jeep guys, always been weird to me. We do however do the Landcruiser wave here but we don't get butt hurt if you don't.
We truly don't understand the Jeep vs Toyota thing with some Jeep people or groups. Cool well built rigs are cool well built regardless of what brand is on the front of it. We may not wave all the time but we sure as hell appreciate a clean well thought out build! Thanks for listening! 😎🤝
I appreciate and enjoy this channel. I have a 22 jeep wrangler rubicon and have an entry level 3” lift but am looking for significantly more flex. Could you make a suggestion for a suspension for someone who wants to take their jeep to the next level and beyond.
Check out the latest episode released on friday! We appreciate you submitting a question for us!
Jeep Wrangler Rubicons you choose the year!
Rubicons do have a special place in our hearts, but they are by no means cheap!
Unfortunately, It is one of the most stolen vehicle in Canada So besure to install a good anti-theft system with a couple GPS in it and install a dumb or fake OBD port
That's a good idea for any vehicle regardless of where you live!
Good talk. I am a mall crawler, School pick up line guy, but enjoy a ruggedized look. The Trailhunter Everest Green color with bronze accents is surprisingly great.
We think that will be a top seller for sure. The more we read into the Trail Hunter package, the more we like it!
Honestly if you break it down to the history of offroading. Overlanding was the original lifestyle of offroad. These guys in the early 70s who discovered most of our facorite trails didnt do it with all the gadgets and gizmos, fancy suspensions, gps, or stay in hotels. They took mostly stock CJs and first gen toyotas and they cut across america with a tent and a machete lol. They were the true pioneers of the offroad culture. Can you even imagine running the rubicon trail just to get from point A to B because it was neccessary. And now we do it as a bucket list trip on 40s and tons. these dudes were doin it in model Ts. Thats the REAL American spirit of true overlanding. Rock Crawling was just a circle of overlanders arguing over who could get over the biggest rock 😄
Absolutely correct! Have you seen the group of Willy's that stay period correct and do overlanding / wheeling trips? Now that is awesome to watch!
I consider myself a Rocklander or OverCrawler 😂
Rocklanding has a great ring to it
Also 4wd doesnt always mean "4wd" whole nother coversation on open and locked 4wd. great episode caleb
Correct.. one that we don't want to get into at the moment and confuse anyone lol. The question came from a new Jeeper, so Caleb tried to break it down as simple as possible for that audience
great episode, even without Caleb lol. I agree with everything on the list, even though Ive never owned a Bronco I can see Ford gaining traction with it. With guys like like Bronc Busters and Mountains 2 Metal are out doing a lot of R&D. and if Ford listens and ever shoves a v8 in one thats not 80gs they might be a huge ccontender. Now getting over the Jeep Cult base is a differnt story, Broncos been gone so long its jumped generational gaps, where guys like us (old) remember the old steel reliabilty of a v8 bronco, and they had their version of the XJ with the bronco II. I just think the faded out to long and now with the market today us guys that remember arent gonna pay new car prices for the mediocore version of our memories.
Good point! Maybe Ford will take a play out of the Jeep playbook and offer a 5.0 version for a few years. We dont see that as budget friendly though.
Why don’t you have this on the Apple podcast platform? I stumbled upon it, but can’t find it elsewhere.
Hey! We are on Apple Podcasts, ( we started uploading there first actually), Spotify and youtube. Apple Podcast link podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/dirt2dust/id1668221603
I have a 2020 Jeep gladiator, currently running 3” rock Krawler adventure x lift. 40” tires. I have been looking at upgrading my factory driveshafts as the rubber boots on them have started getting tore up the more off-roading i have been doing lately. Two questions. One is there an advantage or disadvantage when replacing the rear shaft with going with a 1 piece over a 2 piece like molar offers as an upgrade? In my head a 2 piece would help with angles and well as clearance while off-roading. Also the difference between going to lets say Adam’s je reel etc the main stream drive shaft companies over lets say Olivers drive shafts local here in NC?
Also if i decide to go up to a 4.5 lift in the future would your answer be any different?
Solid questions! We'll try to answer these on the next episode!
Where are the F55 booklets available?
You can get them directly from f55. Might have to give them a call
With the prices of vehicles, these days and interest rates through the roof, I decided to buy a jeep that was proven and simple to repair out of warranty. I plan on keeping my 2024, 3.6 L Rubicon XR for a very long time.
Solid choice! We have no complaints about the 3.6. its a tried and true engine, and with the new 8 speed its a totally different beast than what was in the JK's.
One motor that I’ve found a lot people either don’t know they exist or just forget it the mild hybrid 3.6 etorque motor. I’ve found a substantial difference in bottom end torque in my wife’s JL compared to the regular 3.6 that’s in my gladiator. Even with mine regeared to 5.13. With that being said I am running 40’s compared to hers with 38’s. Looking forward to seeing how Doug’s holds up to Pritchett with him driving.
I totally agree! I bought a 2021 two-door Rubicon with that engine. That jeep was a rocket ship and literally got 21 miles per gallon. I drove it from Phoenix to Moab, ran Hells revenge Trail and then back to Phoenix and averaged over 20 MPG for the entire trip!
We feel that Jeep was definitely testing out the hybrid capabilities with that one.
Great episode. I swapped to all Factor 55 recovery gear back in 2022 when I first met Justin out at KOH. Great news hearing that the hammer loop will come available to the public after seeing it used for years. Can’t wait to pick up one for my ultra hook.
I think we just scratched the surface with Justin.. This dude is a wealth of knowledge and experience. We cant wait to see the hammer loop out for everyone too. Such a valuable understated tool
Gladiator Mojave doesn’t have automatic sway bar disconnect. Only the Rubicon…
good catch! Yes, Rubicon only on the sway bar disconnect, although a sway bar disconnect on a Mojave would be very convenient
Nice conversation fellas…love the JL information. How about info on the new 2024 Rubicon rear “full float” axle…
we'll do some digging and add it to the next mail bag episode!
Doug can you talk about the JT Mojave. Looking at driveshafts (Adams) and as building it I’ve noticed with its suspension a lot is different or specific. What should you run on a Mojave and lengths
We definitely will! Check out tomorrow's Mail bag episode!
This was a great episode, great recap on the hammers. Keep up the great work
