    Would you say tanks played a more vital role in WWII or if military aircraft played a more vital role??? I feel like it’d be the aircraft that played the more significant part but admittedly, I’m not super knowledgeable on WWII by any means. Lol I’m just someone who’s mildly-decently interested in the history around warfare & military vehicles/equipment/etc. and so probably like 80% of my knowledge/understanding comes from CZcams videos.

      to be fair, I also got most my knowledge from yt, so I don't really know either. But both played a more vital role in warfare in ww2 than in ww1.

    You talked about the Space Race in both this and in part 1, so it seems like a subject that you are really interested in, and that is a part of the Cold War I have studied a bit...did you know that Eisenhower chose to let the Soviets put a satellite into orbit first? In large part he wanted the USSR to establish the Freedom of Space, since he had been sending planes to illegally fly over the USSR for pretty much his entire Presidency, and he really wanted to stop having to do that. He also did not want the first US satellite to be launched by the team led by former Schmazi Von Braun...which is why he did not allow Von Braun to even try to put a satellite in orbit in 1956 with the Jupiter C rocket made his team at ABMA, even though there was every reason to think that Von Braun would have succeeded. There are actually a lot of "fun facts" about a lot of those Soviet space "firsts" you mentioned...such as the fact that because Gagarin actually parachuted out of his capsule to land safely and the Soviets lied about that fact, his achievement had to be allowed to stand by the international body that certified space records. There is a really interesting video that covers a lot of the interesting facts about the way the Soviets achieved their achievements that you can find here. It is pretty long, so maybe not a good react video, but if you did do a reaction I would love to watch it. BTW...the title is a little provocative, but don't let that stop you from watching it. czcams.com/video/rSK7rUSnFK4/video.html

    I am glad that we did not have to wait for this second part...though I did not want to comment on this one the same day I posted on part 1. I promise I don't have as much to say on any of the other Oversimplifieds, WW2 and Cold War are the ones I have actually studied the most, so I have much more information on those 2 series from the channel. As with part 1 of the series, Oversimplified leaves out things in this episode that go way way beyond oversimplifying...the most obvious one being Chernobyl. Gorbachev himself has said the nuclear disaster was perhaps the biggest single material cause of the collapse of the USSR...it really cannot be "oversimplified" out of any Cold War history presentation. Oversimplified also gets stuff wrong, such as the claim that the US only learned about the fact that the USSR had far fewer nuclear weapons AFTER the Cuban Missile Crisis...that might have been the case for the US public, but the US government knew all along that the US had a massive superiority in nuclear weapons in the 1950s and early 1960s. The "missile gap" was always false, and Ike knew it was false pretty much since the beginning...he even told JFK and LBJ how he knew it was false from U-2 and other overflights of Soviet territory, but they continued to lie about it because it was getting them a lot of support in their political campaigns.

  • @iKvetch558
    @iKvetch558 Před 2 měsíci

    Standard note that I post on this one...copied and pasted. This is not one of Oversimplified's better video series, they leave out too many pivotal events, and too many of the things they talk about are just not based on the latest historical data. It is not bad, there are way worse videos about the Cold War on YT, it is just not nearly as good as a lot of their other stuff. Even though we expect them to leave out a lot of stuff, there are pivotal events that are part of the Cold War that you cannot leave out. In this one, the biggest even they do not talk about is the Suez Crisis of 1956, which was a hugely impactful event in the early Cold War. It was the reason why several European nations...including Turkey...were demanding that the US deploy nuclear weapons on their soil as part of the NATO defense commitment. That happened because Khrushchev blustered about using Soviet medium range and intermediate range missiles to nuke Europe if Britain and France did not back down in Egypt. But Oversimplified just left too much out of this one...to the point where it goes far beyond oversimplification...they should not have made this series so short. They spent around 20 more minutes covering the US Civil War, a conflict that lasted less than 5 years, than they did on the 50 years or so of the Cold War.

    Another really interesting reaction with lots of great additions from you. But there are a few things I wanted to mention regarding information Oversimplified is mistaken about. They get a number of things wrong in this one, one of them being Pykrete. For one thing, they were looking to build huge floating bases, not really just aircraft carriers. For another, it was not a dumb idea to build floating bases, it just turned out not to be as easy an idea as they originally thought it was going to be, and by the time they had finished all the preliminary research, the Mid Atlantic Air Gap had already been closed with escort carriers and very long range patrol aircraft. Also, Oversimplified refers to Bitchler not having to declare war on the US, and I think he is referring to the fact that the Tripartite Pact did not obligate Germany to defend Japan because Japan attacked first, but Oversimplified does not understand that war between the US and Germany was inevitable even before Pearl Harbor. FDR began his campaign to get the US into WW2 pretty much immediately after he secured his third term in 1940. His Arsenal of Democracy speech came in December of 1940, and by March 1941 he had convinced enough of the American people that the US needed to be more involved in the war that he was able to get the Lend Lease Act passed, and once American ships were carrying cargo to the UK and USSR through German sub infested waters, war between the US and Germany was inevitable. FDR deployed Marines to Iceland to protect the sea lanes in July of 1941, and US ships began active escort and submarine patrol by the end of summer. Technically, FDR already had Cassis Belli once a German U-Boat sank the USS Reuben James on October 31, 1941...definitely by that time war with Germany was inevitable pretty much regardless of what the Japanese or Bitchler did. And by November of 1941, US public opinion polling showed that 68 percent of Americans agreed that it was more important to defeat Germany than for the US to stay out of the war. Bitchler really had no choice but to declare war, since he could not allow those US ships to travel freely and had to let his navy loose to attack them. And while the winter was quite bad for the Germans, the main mistake that Bitchler made that really cost them any chance at victory over the USSR was not really his fault. There was a gigantic intelligence "failure" by the Abwehr, who estimated that the Soviets had vastly FEWER reserves of men than they really did. Turns out the Soviets had 3 times the number of reserve troops that the Abwehr had predicted. I put failure in quotes because we now know that the head of the Abwehr Canaris was part of a small resistance movement working to defeat Bitchler from within. Bitchler waking up a few hours earlier would not have made a major difference to the landings in Normandy. Even if he had been awake to allow the release of the Panzer reserves, there was too much confusion among the local German commanders and too much disruption of the command and control network for those reserves to have been employed effectively. Final thing...you mention Iran as being an "independent" country at the end of WW2, but that is not really the case. Recall that the Anglo-Soviet Invasion of Iran occurred in August 1941 as the Allies took over the country to use it as a major supply route for Lend Lease and other aid to travel to the USSR. At the end of the war, the British withdrew but the Soviets tried to stay and create a puppet government. It required action by the United Nations to convince the USSR to leave in 1946, and while Iran was nominally independent from then on, it was most definitely a client state beholden to the British...and later the USA...to keep the Soviets at bay. OK...I have talked too much already...thanks again for posting these reactions to history content.💯

    The series on WW2 has a lot of errors in it, large and small...and I do not even include errors of omission, since that is what Oversimplified does. Here is a comment I try to make on this video as often as I can with the 2 most important corrections I think this video needs, so I hope you don't mind me copy/pasting it here. Unfortunately, there are a couple of spots in this one where Oversimplified oversimplified a bit too much, to the point where the things they say are factually incorrect. Specifically, the script has a line that indicates the German people loved the Schmazis, but that is not true...only a relatively small minority of them did. Shortly after that, Oversimplified gets the history wrong on how the Schmazis actually take power. He suggests that Schmazi popularity "grew and grew" and that led directly to the President making that Corporal the Chancellor, but that is not how it happened. The Schmazi's popularity had an upper limit, and actually fell after it reached that upper limit, but they were still the largest party in the Reichstag...and they used that power to force President Hindenburg to make the Corporal the Chancellor. Also, in the section where Oversimplified talks about the Czechoslovakians not being allowed to attend the 4 power conference, they make it seem like it was Britain and France that did not invite them...but it was one of Hitler's demands that Czechoslovakia not attend the meeting. Comments I tried to add separately that YT deleted...sorry it makes this so long. You made a lot of great comments throughout the video, and made it very interesting to watch this reaction, but I did want to speak up about a couple of things...bits of information that it seems like you are not aware of. Apologies if you already knew any of this. One thing it seems like you missed in the video is at 21:34, when Oversimplified mentions that the Allies had wanted to put their troops in Belgium as soon as the war began, but that Belgium would not allow it...you paused to make some comments about the Allies not being ready for Germany's attack and did not hear that part at all. That is a very important bit of information...France and Britain had made an agreement with the Belgians to send their troops into Belgian territory even before Germany invaded Poland...but Belgium went back on that deal and stayed neutral...so they could not form a cooperative defense line until Germany actually attacked. If the French and British had moved their forces into Belgium months before the German attack in May 1940, they would have been MUCH more ready for the Germans when they came. Also, the Germans' original plans for the invasion did NOT involve the armored thrust through the Ardennes, a plan that was considered by the German Generals to be too risky. It was only the exposure of part of the original plans in the Mechelen Incident that caused the last minute change in the German plans that sent the armored division into the Ardennes. As it turns out, if the Germans had attacked with their original plans, the Allies had prepared VERY well for how that was supposed to go, and probably would have defeated the German attack...at least strategically. Oversimplified repeats some mythologies throughout the WW2 series...that includes the idea that the UK was ever close to losing the Battle of Britain, they never were. Another myth is that Sea Lion was a real plan to invade across the English Channel, but it was not, it was much more of a propaganda effort and not really a serious and well thought out military plan...basically they gathered a few river barges at channel ports and made loud noises about their plans, but not really any other concrete preparations. I look forward to your comments on part 2 of the series.👍

I appreciate you pointing out the small mistakes oversimplified made or left out.

      @@smageryreacts I am glad that you are enjoying watching these, and that they are making you want to learn more, but like I said I am not really even talking about stuff that Oversimplified left out...I get that they leave out most of the history for the sake of summary. But when you summarize you only make it more important that you get everything you do say as correct as possible, and Oversimplified makes significant errors of fact in this series...not to mention the mythologies and partial truths they report as facts.
