New .308 Hunting Rifle - Ruger American Gen II
Why? I like the cheek riser, the three position safety that locks the bolt, the coated, fluted, threaded, free floated 20 inch barrel, the magazine type, the stiffer stock that pillar beds the action, the non-zipper bolt and I'm sure there are some other things I've missed. I'll keep my Ruger American Predator Gen I in 308 as my backup. It never hurts to have an extra in the truck should something happen while in the field.

Ruger American Ranch 5.56 at 200 yards - with a 35 yard zero
zhlédnutí 236Před 7 hodinami
Originally I had zeroed this at 30 yards, but my scope height over bore was incorrect in my ballistic data. After a correction it showed that a 35 yard zero equals a 200 yard zero with the 68 grain ammo I'm using. So I made some 35 yard shots for zero and then checked it at 75 yards where it should be hitting 1.3 inches high. The final test was to shoot the 200 yard target. I'd cleaned out the ...
2024 Dove Field Final Update
zhlédnutí 235Před 16 hodinami
The field has been burned, mowed and is ready for the Georgia opener on September 7, 2024. There are millions of seed from the dove proso millet and there are still plenty of sunflowers with seeds that have been mowed and the seeds spread. The brown top millet is still standing, but some of it is dropping its seeds too so this field should be a smorgasbord for the dove.

I was able to get this gun show find out and shoot it. Man what a fun little rifle to shoot. Other than finding the barrel take down nut needed just a fine adjustment to tighten and the stock screw (doubles as the mag tube sleeve) was loose and needed tightening, this thing shot great. I had no mis-fires, failure to feed or eject, nothing. It works great and shoots great too. This is just a fun...

Sighting in Ruger Ranch 5 56 - Zero at 30 for 200

Right now with the dove field grown up in millet, sunflowers and crabgrass, I can't see my 200 yard target. Using my ballistics chart for this Hornady Frontier 68 grain BTHP projectile I found that in theory a 30 yard zero will equal a 200 yard zero. Because I only have 75 yards to work with, I got it on at 30 yards and tested the 75 yard 1.5 inch high impact based on the calculations. See how ...

Dove field 2024 - sunflowers are dropping seed on the ground and the dove are in them. The Dove Proso millet is ready and it too is dropping seed. I cut a 75 yard long strip about twelve feet wide through the millet and the amount of seed on the ground is amazing. If I can spray the field to kill the crab grass I'll be able to burn it a week or so before opening weekend.
New Scope for the Ruger Ranch 5.56

In this video I'm showing my scope swap on the Ruger Ranch 5.56. The ironic thing is I went from a Japanese made scope to a Chinese made scope. What is the point, that both the .357 and .44 Magnum has 24" heavy barrel version, and the hot and strong load .454 Casull does not??? The Casull has the most power to burn, it would need the most barrel length, if I got this point right. So, any idea, why is this like that? Also very annoying that there is no blued steel version of the Casull. Maybe some ceracote would help if I would buy one.

    • @cervus-venator
      @cervus-venator Před 11 hodinami

      Very good points to bring up. I have no idea on why it is like that and i didn't realize that they didn't produce any of the 454 Casull in a blued version. That's odd that they did not, but you are correct in that a ceracote can cover that shinny finish if need be. Thanks for bringing up these points.

  • @BaldGuysWithGuns
    @BaldGuysWithGuns Před 18 hodinami

    That 35 yard zero is pretty cool. From 35 to 200 you know you won't go more than 1.5 inches off target. Depending on the size of the target that's super minimal. Very cool.

    • @cervus-venator
      @cervus-venator Před 12 hodinami

      Yes, that's the idea in knowing the POI within that range and keeping that in mind that the highest it will be is perhaps 1.80 inches at around 120 yards. So if I have a 3 inch target at 120 yards I can aim at the bottom of it hit close to center. Anyway, that rifle is just my little ol range plinker. Thanks for stopping by!!
