I have some beautiful Terra Cotta paints from Folk Art and really wanted to use them in some texture paintings. I did some arches on this piece with some spackle and then used the acrylic paints and a gold oil paint to finish this beautiful piece!

It is spackle.

I just tried gold leaf for the first time last night! What is the gold paint you’re using with the palette knife?
I use Utrecht gold paint that is really nice and thick.
I just tried putting gold leaf on just the raised textured areas, and it’s not as easy as I thought! Unfortunately the raised lines that I only wanted touched with gold leaf were not as thin as I had hoped. It definitely takes practice putting on the gilding adhesive
it does! The gold leaf is just so thin and fragile that it takes time to figure out.

I mainly use spackle that you can find at any hardware store.

This is gold leaf. I use glue to adhere it to the painting.

So far I haven;t had issues with cracking. Modeling paste is more of an artist grade item. Spackle is for construction/home.

No I let it dry first and then glue the gold leaf down.

Yes this is just paint, nothing added to it.
