Sonex Transition Training
zhlédnutí 9KPřed 8 lety
This video is not flight training. It is not intended to replace receiving proper transition training. All pilots should receive training prior to flying a Sonex aircraft. On September 29, 2015, SBPF President Robbie Culver attended the factory T-Flight training program in Oshkosh, WI. This video is a short glimpse into that training. The audio is raw, and does not have any in-cockpit conversat...

Anyone was this plane still turbocharged or did they take it off confused ? thanks for the vid 👍
Excellent demo of the turbo aerovee . The best I’ve seen. This vid was six years ago how is the turbo holding up ? I have the same engine thinking about adding the turbo to it . Thanks for sharing 👍
Poating for clout doenst last long.. youll end up dead or injuried severely.. the insurance company can now see comment ahead of the crash damage and death so they dont have to cover any of it any more. 😂😂 your the type of pilot that follow highways actoss america and think youre a bad ass pilot. Youre not😂😂
Can the sonnex be IFR equipped?
Informative video, thanks. What was your fuel consumption at cruise altitude at around 150 TAS? I agree that the turbo performs better at high altitude than a normally aspired engine but please remember for those flying out a 9100 ft. altitude airfield remember the prop and the wing aren't turbocharged, it's still going to take a while to get into the air.
Just awesome! “Thanks for the air show!” 😂
Seems if ur bigger than 1 ft across may as well make it a tandem or single cockpit.
Sonex looks way narrower than I thought - Bummer... :(
A very cool flight Good job

Our runway is 1500ft. I need at least as much short field capacity as our 152s get!
How is the engine holding up?
What’s the fuel burn?
Great video! Thank you for the information!
I was hoping to see 12 and 17k
That was such an awesome program, I wish it (or some approximation of it, at least!) was still available from Sonex! I think Joe Norris was the ideal person for the program, I think he did an awesome job with every single pilot he worked with and I'm glad that he remained with the EAA for all of those reasons. Sadly, I also completely understand why Sonex got out of the T-Flight training program (liability, insurance, general risk...)!!! But, it was a great idea, very well executed by Sonex & Joe Norris...Yeah, I'm a little jealous of those who got it when the getting was good! Hahaha
I want one so bad
when u say cylinder temp do u really mean cyl head temp r u measuring it under the plug or where and 54 x 50 prince p tip ok ,,u added a turbo what were the figs before turbo and did u use same prop tia
Why does it sound like a metal trash can rolling down the driveway? Is there any noise reduction?
I'll be heading your way if the school is still going. If it is I would like to get a tail endorsement that way if possible. I would rather build mine as a tail dragged all the way.
good video. I have questions about the turbo due to flying in the desert in the Southwest. I am told with our pressure altitude it is the way to go. Thanks again.
What gas type are you running? When you hit 40 manifold pressure that's at 2 minutes at a time and 35 is cruise pressure right? how long between hitting 40 can you go back to 40 if needed?
7600 msl. high altitude? come on. my home field was 6700 msl, with TO DAs frequently pushing 10K. Am interested in the airplane. How does it do on TO at my conditions? how about cruise between 10 and 12,5K What's critical altitude on this set up? with FP prop is critical alt rpm limited? what's service ceiling? this vid based on a good idea, but lacks almost all information you ned to know for operations at medium alt.
Oh wait! At about 8:36 we learn that he is LEFT Handed! Left hand on the stick, and he has modified the throttle to the right hand!
Wonderful video, and a very nice touch by Mike Smith---the button on your hat!
After that Robbie's going to be landing in calm weather and be bored out of his mind...
What was that incident as you approached the runway where you started turning a knob on the left side? I'm a sonex "A" plans holder.
Hi Randy - no "incident" - that is my trim wheel.
Thanks again for the video, you did a great job!
How’s the turbo holding up? Did all the bugs get worked out?
Well done Robbie!
Hi. I noticed you take off from the 3-point position without raising the tail. Are there any benefits for not raising the tail and does it make the takeoff distance shorter?
Great video Michael. Real knowledgeable. Plan to build turbo Onex in 2021
Thanks for this!
Congrats, hon! Mark that one off your bucket list!
Great experience !
Sweet! 😀👍 What an opportunity, silver linings and all. Is that the new "experimental" avionics with your ipad?
Awesome. Well done
AWESOME 👏 😎
Great!!!
Wow.
Omg that was soooo cool.
Wonder why he is flying with the Jabaru 6 cylinder now???
Mostly load carrying capability. I have two sons that are growing quickly and they want to fly with daddy, so I want the best engine option for carrying two people!
Nicely done! Thanks for sharing
This is not high altitude, needs to be at least 10km high.
Any idea if Sonex will restart this program?
Unfortunately it is very unlikely
In the video it seams longer than a Cessna152... tell me please 😳
Would this be a good option for Colorado?
“Addonized” lol
what is your burn rate at your fav cruise?
Do you intend to put the liquid cooling setup onto your turbo?
