The 9908-03 is an electronic counter based on germanium transistors made in the late 1950's by Van Der Heem in The Netherlands (later a part of Philips). Its unique feature is the display, which consists of six moving coil meters, each one representing a digit from 0 to 9. Even after so many years, it is still remarkably accurate because of its oven controlled crystal oscillator. It will count ...
Pocket Operator KO Hadouken Street Fighter Teenage Engineering unedited repair video

This Pocket Operator KO or Hadouken Street Fighter from Teenage Engineering had the potmeters removed and some additional damage. One button, a quartz crystal and two tiny tiny capacitors of a few picofarads are missing. With the help of new pots of 10k linear and a donor unit, we're trying to get it going again. Those SMD components are damned small!
Using heightmap with Grblcontrol or Candle
zhlédnutí 13KPřed 3 lety
In this video I'll show in detail how to use the heightmap feature of grblcontrol to make pcbs on a Banggood 3018 cnc router. With a heightmap you can compensate for height differences, or wobbling of the pcb. The V-bit is used as a probe to measure. The router slowly dips the bit until it makes electrical contact on numerous points of the pcb, thereby creating a 'height map' of the pcb. Candle...

Mensen stoplicht zonder sensor ❤😂😂
Been frustrated trying to do this myself. I've used the regular probe command regularly with candle and my cnc but when I try the heightmap it does a single probe and then does nothing and I have to abort (and yes I have the probing matrix parameters set up).
the best video that i have seen about height mapping over internet, thank you so much, good luck
If you push the button the input goes high and the voltage is activated right?
hello! I have a question about candle. Today I tried to use the CNC for my first PCB and my pcb was made 2 and a half times smaller than usual. What do you reckon I should change?
It is possible to save the height map to a file?
I understand all your instructions but where do these clips connect to?
Wire 1 runs from the body of the spindle motor to the A5 pin of the controller. Wire 2 runs from the copper of the pcb to (one of) the G (ground) pin(s) of the controller. That's it!
@ Charles - Finally a positive explanation! I had been trying for several days to do the height map of a PCB but without success: the tip touched the copper but did not go up and made a jerky noise with finally an alarm... By following the video step by step I finally obtained the result I was looking for. Thank you very much Charles! I'm using CANDLE 1.1.7 but don't have the PRESETS buttons used in the video. How to add them? PS Is it possible to use a Z probe instead of the sheet of paper to set the starting Z zero? Hervé (Loire Atlantique - France)
Thank you. Yes, Candle is a little bit different and not always better imho. And yes, you can use the probe function in stead of the paper trick.

Bedankt!
Pin 6 is ground. Why would it have a ref voltage of 2.5 volts?
hi i have got this progrmam but i can't see 3D view , do you know how to do ?

Hey, thanks for this video. I never zero'd my probe in the middle, also never with a piece of paper but by using the probe function. Why do you not use the probe? Why in the middle?
Great explanation, this is just what i was looking for, thank you!
Thank you!

Echt mooi!!
If I have my pcb secured to the machine, do I have to zero the z axis to proceed with the heightmapping, or must I zero the zed prior.
Set the zero point before making the height map
can you provide a link for the software you are using to control the board please?
I'm still using grblcontrol version 0.8.1 from 2015. The product has been renamed into Candle and you can download version 1.1.7 from github.com/Denvi/Candle. Scroll down to where it says Windows
@@babbadge thank you I have already downloaded it
Hi Charles, it would be possible for you to share the wiring diagram for the height map probe? I am having a lot of issues with my 3018, when I try to run the height map, the machine is pushing the bit all the way down without stoping on the PCB. Thanks!
It's just two wires: wire 1 runs from the body of the spindle motor to the A5 pin of the controller. Wire 2 runs from the copper of the pcb to (one of) the G (ground) pin(s) of the controller. That's it! Another tip to prevent the machine pushing the bit all the way through is the following. When creating the height map in grblcontrol, fill in the Zb field with a small value, e.g. -0.5 (mm). If the machine doesn't find copper it will not dive deeper than -0.5mm. Have fun & take care!
I bought it a long time ago and can't get a refund. I had a hard time why it didn't work for a long time. Thank you for making me give up for sure. I learned that it was a fake chip after watching your video. I'll have to buy genuine products other than simple chips from now on. Thank you.
subscribed your channel :)
Thanks for your video my stove is fine now the mechanic is asking me for huge money and even he said your burner would changes thanks alot
I love esoteric test gear! this is a very interesting piece, can you shed light on its principle of operation?
Of course. I have put some schematics on radiomuseum.org. Per digit they made four flip-flops out of two germanium transistors each. Four of those flip-flops go on a single pcb. They count to 10 and the overflow is carried on to the next digit. The outputs of the 4 flip-flops are sent to a simple digital-to-analog-converter (just a bunch of resistors) and the analog signal is fed to one of the moving coil meters. Special about the flip-flops is the way they count. With our present day knowledge, we would let the flip-flops represent a binary number, so the weights of the bits would be 1, 2, 4 and 8. That's called bcd-code. But that's not what they did. In this machine the weights of the bits are 1, 2, 4 and 2. Enough to count to 10, but it's a bit weird. I don't know why they did it this way, there must have been some sort of advantage. Another peculiar thing is that the stages are coupled through a capacitor, in other words, it's ac-coupled like in an audio amplifier and not dc-coupled as in modern day digital stuff. This must have been a left-over from the tube area. With a vacuum tube you must bridge the cap between an anode voltage of a couple of hundred volts to a grid voltage which is a few volt negative. The easiest way to do that is with a capacitor. The people who designed this machine in the 1950's were brilliant engineers, but they still thought like vacuum tube designers! Next to the flip-flops that are connected to the digits, there is another set of boards containing flip-flops for counting the time. A frequency count takes 0.1 second (or 1s or 10s) and they have to time that measurement. There is an ovenized crystal oscillator at 1MHz. That frequency is divided by 100 000 or by 1000 000 or by 10 000 000, so that takes another 7 boards with flip-flops.

Prachtig.
1902 is fake chip.
I bought 12 of these 1902 chips from eBay and have been driving myself mad trying to get them to work. All 12 being faulty seemed impossible so I've been quadruple checking all my wiring and code. Returning them to the seller now and STRONGLY encouraginging them to stop selling them. I'm sure they have driven many a hobbiest insane thinking they've wired them up incorrectly. Thank you for giving me my sanity back!! Now to buy some of the genuine articles.
I can't stand hobbyists and makers going mad. That's why I made the video!

I want to make accurate PCB's with perfect aligning holes. Not sure if an end ball mill or flat end mill is better for drilling 0.8mm holes.
For drilling holes, I use 0.8mm drill (with 3.2mm shaft), not a mill
Thank you for this video, I now have definitive proof I was sold fake chips. I kinda knew this could be the case, so I knew the risks, funny though, the seller agreed to refund immediatly after I mentioned they were fake.
Thank you so much!
Thanks for posting this video. I spent a good while trying to get these (2) chips that I ordered on Amazon to work. When I finally noticed that the input was loading the signal down substantially, I suspected they might either be damaged or counterfeit. The ones I bought were drawing 4 mA at 5 volts and the reference measured 4.1v. They visually look very similar to the (2) fake ones you displayed with the 1902 on them. I'm sending them back. Thanks again! If you're ever in Richmond, VA contact me and I'll buy you a pint or two.
