There’s likely some metric that suggests it’s not worth the development cost to include couch co-op in the types of titles you grew up with since most people play those genres online. Also it’s easier to sell micro-transactions to individual players. Good news though, game development tools keep getting better and better making it easier for smaller teams to produce all sorts of games, so fingers crossed that some of them see value in a couch co-op revival.

Are you single? My girlfriend and I have chowed down virtually every split screen game there is, even the bad ones, seeking all there was to play together. It’s an inarguable fact that we get a very small ratio of split screen games than we did in the older generations. To the point where split screen is a selling point, a rare feature a game can advertise and a game will get sales just off that. Simply because few games allow such. And if you got an Xbox, then split screen games on PlayStation get reduced to non split screen on the modern Xbox platform. It’s a nearly dead feature and you didn’t present any compelling arguments as to otherwise

Nice Video. If any of you games on PC check out Nucleos coop, its a greate program that runs 2 instances of a game in sandboxes and directs inputs so you can couch coop a lot of games if it has lan support. its a little technical but worth the effort

As someone who’s old enough to have played couch coop, I can confirm that couch coop is 100 % dying. Not because I’m “old”, but because you’re missing some chromosomes and can’t comprehend that couch coop is nothing like it used to be, and is extremely rare compared to what it used to be.

Got to agree. I like reading, and when I want to read I’ll read a good book. However when I play games and the game tries to lore dump a few paragraphs I switch off. Like, could you imagine watching a movie and having to pause every 5 minutes to read a companion manual that explains what they couldn’t be bothered to show or tell you? Of course depends on the type of game and intended audience but keeping (necessary) reading to a minimum in action-orientated games is a must to preserve pacing and engagement.

Keep creating! I have spent years creating stuff I never share with the world because I’m just not satisfied with it… but all that experience has added up over time and I can say I’m really proud of my work now and ready to go commercial with it this year. Content creation is a little different - keep sharing it whether you want to or not! It’ll help you find your stride and improve in areas that help you reach a wider audience. Learn more about the algorithm too - I’m really into watching indie game development stuff so that’s why you got suggested out of nowhere… but it’s also a really niche space. Find out what you can do to get your titles, thumbnails and content to really help you find your ideal spot on CZcams. For example, an indie game channel I watched mentioned he couldn’t even play mainstream games like Fortnite or Minecraft on his channel without the algorithm shifting focus from the indie audience and costing him views, that’s how messed up it can be. You might really need to nail down a channel identity first in a specific category to build a viewership, then you can branch out how you please from there… but hey, I’m no expert or anything, it’s just some friendly advice. You got a good personality and I can see you have passion for content creation so stick to it!
