    The virtues of retro modding are subtle developments of the OE. The vices are to bling up a steel car with a carbon fibre reskin and retrim. A good resto mod should please the anorak observer. I would have a closer look at the F-type S1 for several reasons: 1. It should be possible to lighten it by (at least) 300kg by removing unnecessary "stuff" (using more elegant thinner, lighter wheels and tyres, smaller battery, e-windows, lighter seats w/o motors, better dash, etc). Light is right... 2. Some parts look very cheap letting down the rest of the car which is well engineered. 3. Manual gearboxes and LSDs. 4. F-types are now 10 years old is the last real Jaguar... Need some help ?

    Lyons must have been off his meds when he came up with the 2.4 Litre, madness! reducing the capacity of this engine and turning it into a boat anchor. It could never have been a money maker and from a manufacturing costing point of view would have been his number one loser.

    • @pkthorntonrestorations
      @pkthorntonrestorations Před 3 měsíci

      Maybe an Italian style tax saving strategic move? If cars were taxed based on cc, the 2.4l would have been in the under 2.5l class. Money in the bank! 🏦

    An enthusiastic presentation! Good race wiring is absolutely essential to avoid either being let down, running out of power or catching fire. Paul is right to underline that not all events are frivolous and held on a summer's day with a garden party atmosphere and where gremlin's are quickly dismissed with a glass of bubbly. Late January in the Vercors on an icy road, in the dark or a very wet Francorchamps in the dark at 200 km/h through Blanchimont...are places where good electrics are essential. It is good to know that folks like Paul can help out. I have a project in mind.

    First well done video. Only criticism (and take no offense please), I would add is mentioning restoration being sentimental in nature. I guess it seemed like its a negative when really i feel those sorts of tribute works can be most genuine as the passion is there to do it right vs cutting corner to make a buck (like so many flippers now a days). I know i executed my resto of my father's (original owner car) and i said right up front, money is no object. And i have no regrets. Well done gents, fantastic shop there.

    I'm a big fan of Lancias - especially the Flaminia Coupe (Pininfarina version). The hard top version of this car is stunning but Superleggera is the CRAZIEST way of building a body - all that galvanic corrosion and no discernible advantage over a unibody structure that I can see. Probably why Touring was the only company I know who used this method.

    Remove all that garbage from it add some NGKs, BOSCH dizzy & turn it full electronic, remove all shit Lucas sensors refit with Hella/BOSCH or TICO and sensors/looms and with a modern high CFM Edelbrock or Autolite 2V carb, run electric fans because you want a high flow water pump that’s power isn’t stolen from those blades..!!! Lightweight Weisco pistons and all alloy lifters etc with roller bearings.. lighter weight thus quicker engine response.!! Its about reliability, useable power as you don’t need 500hp, running 300hp means you can run its ass off at peak performance, like running Alfa’s from the late 70s early 80s, screaming the engine and gearbox with that full on durty grin.!
