Welcome to my channel where I'll be documenting my journey to and through dental hygiene school!
Did you get in?!
Did you graduate Dental School?
Do you think radiology was difficult because you didn’t have dental experience? I’m prepping myself for dental hygiene school because I start in July but I just never thought radiology would be difficult.
Thank you so much for your video this helps me a lot going into DH ❤
Girl did you graduate???
Thank you for your video! It is really helpful! What college or universitu do you study?
Hello! New sub. Been learning so much about hygiene and the program. Can you do some more videos about school supplies that were needed and used. Also maybe about the pros and cons of associates vs bachelors. Also, how old is too old to start the program? Did you start out of high school? Thanks so much
I’m super nervous, I hope I can make it in thank you so much for your advice !
I made it in !!! Thank you for the advice <3
@@alondragutierrez8415 Congrats on getting in!! Was your interview similar to hers or different? What questions did they ask? I'm applying in a few months and I'm soo nervous
I heard we have to ask questions, but I honestly don’t know what to ask.
Hello which school or university are you talking about? in which did you do your dental hygiene interview?
Can u explain how many people applied to your program and how many got accepted and what you did to get in?
I’m in high school so when I finish a two year college where do I go next I’m lost?
did you finish all the general education courses before applying?
Quan Nguyen yes I did! It wasn’t required at my school to finish the gen eds before applying, but it is required that they be done by the time you graduate the program. And honestly I would not try and do gen eds at the same time you take the program. It’s super hard and stressful without any added pressure of trying to finish boring gen eds lol!
Congratulations...
Happy belated 🎂 birthday🎉🎊🎊🎉🎈🎈🎈
Great video Thank you for all the tips!!!!👊
When you say you got your your associate’s degree in 2010 was it in dental assisting?
Daisy V No, it was just an Associate of Arts degree. I actually came into the program with 0 dental knowledge! It’s been tough learning everything from the ground up, but it might be a blessing in disguise. If you learn something a different way in assisting, it can be hard to unlearn some things when you come into hygiene. But it really would have been helpful knowing some basics like how to take a radiograph or what the tooth numbers were 😂
What made your decide dental hygiene? I just graduated community college with my AA in health science and still don’t have my mind set on what I want to do now... loved your video! Keep them coming! And love your chair! 😍
Jennifer fregoso thanks! And sorry I’m just now seeing this haha. I’m absolutely awful with keeping up on content or checking comments 😅 but I decided on dental hygiene in kind of a round-about way. I originally had planned on getting certified as a dental assistant about 10 years ago, but the program that was offered in my area stopped before I could apply, so I decided to wait to go back to school until after I married my then boyfriend now husband and then life happened and time got away from me. Next thing you know 5+ years had passed and I decided to reevaluate what I wanted to do as a career. I really liked the flexibility DH offered and it pays way better than assisting so I decided to go that route. Not too exciting of a story, but it’s definitely been a journey! It’s a good thing you got your AA in science that will definitely help you out with prerequisites! And it will make you stand out when/if you apply for DH school. At my school, you got extra points on in the application process if you already had a degree.
Is this for a BS? Or AS?
Laura AS! I plan on going for my BS, but we don’t have a local school that offers that program so I’ll probably end up doing it online
This is a very long interview. I feel they should have voted on which test to do and which to alternate between the students.
In my second semester now! The needing to study for the first time was the same for me. I flew through my prerequisites, but bam! the first semester hit me hard.
How many months did it take to finish the pre req classes?
simply by alayna it’s a bit hard for me to answer this completely straight, because I actually got my associates back in 2010 which included some of the prereqs that I needed for the program, and for the hardcore prereqs like microbiology and chemistry, it took me maybe a year? Year and a half? But I was only going to school part time and would go some semesters just taking one class. I would say though, on average with all of the prereqs including the standard ones like English, it shouldn’t take more than 2 years. Sooner than that if you take a full course load!
Dental Chimi thank you for replying back to me! and okay, good to know 😊
If you don’t mind me asking what was your gpa going into the program? I’m just starting out my prerequisites!
Life with Axe I wouldn’t mind telling you, but I’m actually not too sure 😂 I just know that I got mostly B’s. Maybe a C or 2 and a couple A’s. I probably should have cared more about my gpa than I did, but I never came close to the “bare minimum” required to apply so I never paid much attention to it 😂 As long as you’re giving your all and passing most of your classes with at least B’s, you should be totally fine :)
To be honest honey, I absolutely love how real you are on this video. Keeping it totally 100 about not being exactly sure how to study and which way is best on note taking. I'm kind of like that right now, but I believe that I have figured it out.
JeffriesAnitra do you have any good study tips to offer up? Idk if it was the long break between semesters or what, but I just can’t find my groove!
@@dentalchimi9628 I understand!!! I was hoping to get some study tips from your video, but I'll tell you what I do. I'm not in the program yet, but I heard hygiene school is a BEAST!!!!!!! So here's what I do to help me retain the information. Each class I take notes to the best of my ability, but I also started audio recording in lecture class. When I get home, rewrite my notes with color pens and highlighters, this helps to draw my eyes to the important details instead of the fluff. Make flash cards of the important details as well, the more you are reading and writing things over and over, it helps you to remember the material. Plus, with flash cards you can take them with you everywhere, so you can study in your car, at the restaurant, wherever. My problem is retaining the information, some people can go over the material a few times and remember it, NOT ME!!!! I actually got this advice from a girl who just graduated from the program, she had good grades and she is a wife and mother of 2 small children. She wrote flash cards for everything and took them everywhere with her, reading the material in the textbook or the powerpoint, writing her notes on what she read and what the instructor told her to focus on.
JeffriesAnitra repetition is huge for me! I’ve also noticed new info sticks with me better if I teach it to someone else. Like I’ll read the material and then explain what I just read to someone else in my class or study group. The only problem is there’s so much to learn so I can’t repeat everything or I’d be “teaching” for days 😂
@@dentalchimi9628 Yes, I had classmate who said the exact same thing. You might have to apply that method to your hardest class. I know that almost everything in Hygiene school is hard, but I heard the horror stories about pharmacology.
Do you have girls that are moms in your class?
Brianna Silva yes! We have 2, and I know it’s tough for them juggling everything, but they are rockstars and make it work!
Your videos are so helpful! Thank you sm & congratulations! :)
Hey girl love your videos! I'm starting dental hygiene school this year and I just uploaded my first video and I would love if you checked it out. :)
Love the video. Thank you!
You’re welcome!
What state are you in ?
Samia Benamor I live in Kansas!
Congratulations girl! I’m so excited for you! Thanks for sharing and for bringing us on your journey. There aren’t enough hygiene videos. I’m 4 prerequisites away from applying!!! What type of program are you in, a community college? I have a rolling backpack (Kipling) and I absolutely looooove it! I can bring all my books because I just pull it.
You can follow me on IG if you’re interested in my journey too @ToothGoodToBeTrue
I go to a technical college, but it might be considered a community college since they do offer normal classes as well. I’m not too sure 😅 I went to a different community college for my prerequisites. You’re so close only being 4 away!! Do you plan on applying for the next fall term? And a rolling backpack might be pretty nice! Save my back from all of these heavy books!!
Congrats!!
I have my interview for hygiene school tomorrow & this video has been super insightful and made me feel a tad bit less nervous! Thanks for sharing your experience
Crystal White How did it go?! I’m sure you did fantastic!
Dental Chimi It was great!! I got in and I’m so excited to start!
Crystal White that’s so exciting!! Congrats!! ✨
Dental Chimi thanks you!!
Yes pls film the teas test video!
Yay 😀 I love dental hygiene videos. I’m almost done with my prerequisite classes!
Kelsey Young I’ve watched so many dental hygiene videos preparing for school 😂
Me too 😂 sometimes I feel like I’ve watched them all!! Thanks for making more!!
Haha you’re welcome! I’m pretty new at making videos, so they aren’t great, but thought I might add my experiences to help others!
Do you have kids?
Nope! No kids. I can imagine having kids and going through this process would be so much more difficult!
I have 2 kids one is 1 years old and the other is 2 months. I am nervous to do the program because they are so little but at the same time I feel like it gives me that much more motivation to do great in the program.
Me too! I just got my letter last week. I'm so excited for dental hygiene school! Congrats to us!
Woo!! Congrats on your letter!!
Angela I won’t find out until June 😩😩 and I turned my application in back in March! CONGRATULATIONS 🎈🎊🍾

A queen!
Yesssss! Way to go Chimi!
Did u get accepted into the program?
I just posted a new video that answers your question :) You should check it out!!
Great video! What grades did you get for your prereqs?
I got A's in my Microbiology and Anatomy classes and a B in Chemistry!
Thanks so much! I love how much detail you shared. I’m so excited for you! Can’t wait to follow your journey to becoming an RDH. I have 5 prerequisites left, then I apply 😬
CandiGirl888 You’ve got this!! It’s a long journey, but it’s so going to pay off in the end!
CandiGirl888 what prerequisites do you have left?
Physiology, intermediate algebra, chemistry, organic chemistry & Microbiology
What state do you live in?
Thanks for the shout out Chimi!
Thanks for making more dental hygiene school videos, there aren’t enough out there! I’m finishing prerequisites then applying. I’d love your opinion on the best study tips for getting good grades in prerequisite sciences. Did you have to retake anything to improve your grade? When do you apply? What state are you in? Thank you! I’m looking forward to your videos and journey.
I agree! There definitely aren't enough dental hygiene school videos! The key to studying is to figure out your studying style. Try googling "learning style inventory" and take one of those quick tests to see the best way to study based on how you interact with your surroundings. I'm more of a hands on visual learner so taking handwritten notes and making flash cards worked best for me. I didn't retake any of my classes, but I ended up with two A's and a B in my prereqs. My application was due mid January, and I just finished my interview on Wednesday! I should know by the beginning of March if i got in or not. I'm applying to a school in Kansas. What state are you going to school in?
Two or three years!? HAHAHAHAHA unsubscribe.
A queen. ❤️
