This is absolutely heartbreaking. That youth group truly changed my life and I have very few memories from middle and high school that don’t involve the friends I made there. Not to mention trips like ASP, Pilgrimage, Breakaway. I feel so lucky that I got to be part of the youth when I did; Dana Hall is one of the most passionate people I have ever met and truly has a heart for serving and ministering to youth. I cannot imagine what could possibly change in the congregation for this to seem like a good idea. My only hope is that this decision was made prayerfully and with God-given discernment, rather than based on a “bottom line.”

I, too, am shocked, disappointed, disheartened, and angered by this news. The cuts noted strike to the core of the programs that brought me to Apex and, frankly, keep me there. We joined AUMC 17+ years ago because it was warm and welcoming to our children. I participate fully in our contemporary worship activities which will also be impacted by these decisions. I’m afraid that this will also bring to an end what I consider to be the most important church-wide mission we have - AOSP. The tireless work of many staff and well over a hundred teens and adults to build a local outreach program appears it too will fade away. AOSP isn’t going to church - it is the church. And the needs of the most vulnerable in our community will only be greater coming out of this mess. This decision will only lead to greater financial issues as families flee to churches where the present and future of Christianity is valued and celebrated.

When my parents told me that the church was getting rid of our youth staff, I didn’t believe them. I have grown up in this church, am a confirmed member, and the youth staff have been a huge part of helping to strengthen my relationship with Christ. It sickens me that these hardworking individuals are being treated this way, and I can’t even wrap my mind around why anyone thought this was a morally justified decision. I have heard people say that children are the future/part of the church, but we are in FACT the church, and this decision continues to reflect this offensive misconception. It honestly just is really sad, and I really wish as an active youth I could have prevented/known about this! Not only does this decision disrespect the youth and it’s staff, but also in the fact that it was made despite their input. I’m the Apex UMC youth representative to parish council, and I was completely kept in the dark about this major shift in church policy and priorities. I would have closed this lengthy paragraph by saying “I hope more youth can advocate for the youth program”, but this decision has shown me that it doesn’t matter what we think, because in the end, we are simply viewed as unimportant.

Where is the list of changes? I don't see any links

The staffing needs of our congregation HAVE NOT changed. The youth of this church need their youth leaders more than EVER. They have had school, sports, youth mission trips, and SO much more taken away from them this past year. And now this? I am ashamed of my church.
