On button accordions: Most bayans, especially older ones from soviet times, only have three rows of buttons, so stripping the mirrored rows. Another thing is that I recently learnt that accordions from the balkan area are usually laid out like a european 5 row button accordion, but with a duplicate 6th row on the outside. media.musicshop360.com/7832/scancrosupbalk.jpg

Well Patricia, I just signed on last week after playing the accordion for several years in elementary school and now playing for perhaps the last 9 years very recreationally....now you tell me to operate the bellows before I press a note or after letting a note go .....That is Earth-shattering news to me...thank you very much....I am still looking through your website and considering further commitment. Thanks.

I just picked up a couple Horner accordions, ones a 120 bass and the other is a 12 bass. The 120 is very old and needs some love for sure but I’ve been having an absolute blast on the 12 bass. I really enjoy corridos and corridos tumbados music I would love if you could post some instructionals on some techniques used in that music on accordions.

I think about a softwear program to add to Roland v-accordions because they do not have it when you buy them new from company; but on certain keyboard synthecisers they actually have it but not yet on their accordions! these are my thoughts, depends on your experience dear Patricia.

Thanks for the comment! We have a couple videos here on CZcams with teaching-one for the bellows and a first lesson video. With a 12 bass, you can learn to manage the bellows well, but it's going to be challenging because you're very limited on the size of the accordion. You may have to change the bellows every two measures which isn't always idea. We have a few free resources over on our website: accordionlifeacademy.com/

Wow! Great video, I wish that I saw it when it was released, 3 years ago. I took lessons as a teenager and for a time, had a beautiful Titano Virtuoso Convertor instrument. I remember going thru the first Palmer & Hughes convertor book. I stupidly sold the instrument to a family friend for very little money. I wish that information like this was available back in the 1960s. Back then, a student took whatever little info the instructor gave at face value. It was disrespectful to ask too many questions.

Just a little constructive criticism ; Concertinas are not a type of accordions nor bandoneons. They’re all free reeded instruments and work in a similar way but can’t be considered as type of one another. In fact the traditional concertina invented in England by sir Charles Wheatstone has had at least 2 patents in the 19th Century. If one looks at the internals of these vintage instruments it is substantially different than the free reeded instruments made in Germany and Italy; the victorian engineers were simply better!. Sadly the word “concertina” has been bastardised over the decades and it now refers to different instruments depending on the country. But the original concertina is that made in the “traditional English” way. It would be a good idea to make a separate video on this, there is a so much interesting history that can be found online.

Nice presentation! But you left out the Czech diatonic accordion... the Heligonka diatonic accordion! The Czech's invented the deep rich heavy bass of the Heligonka over 100 years ago. They are the ones that brought the diatonic accordion into Mexico over 100 years ago, which is now a favorite of the Hispanic nationality people, but most Hispanic/ Conjunto players dont use the bass. The rich bassed Heligonka is played by mostly by the Czech and Slovak groups of people producing many happy polkas and waltzes.

We have an article about the different types here: accordionlifeacademy.com/articles/areyoumytype If you're referring to the chromatic accordion-no, you typically don't have to reach as far. The one thing you'll want to consider if pursuing the chromatic accordion is the ease of accessing resources-It's not as common outside of Europe. We do offer private lessons for the chromatic-you can learn more about that here: accordionlifeacademy.com/lessons Piano accordion is more common in the USA especially and there are more resources available-including the free resources and paid courses on our home page. :) Feel free to reach out to accordionlifeacademy@gmail.com if you have further questions.
