    I’m so glad I’m not the only one feeling like this. I just did my first year in a charter and it’s been so stressful!!! I am really considering going back to doing PSA. I’m glad we tried it, we learned a lot because I had to do all the research they barely helped me with anything. They declined a bunch of stuff my son needed and I was like so what is the point of these funds if u wont even pay for his music instrument or experiments when I have hundreds of dollars left over? They rather keep that money for themselves than to use it on stuff my son actually needs. It’s not worth the stress for me. Too much checking in and submitting for us. We will definitely miss the online classes and field trips. Those I’d say are my favorite perks. Having my son participate in what feels like school. I might give it 1 more year not sure yet. I’m a single working mom and I really wish they just gave me that money to do with it as I please. I mean teachers get paid to teach why don’t we? Teachers dont teach for free and just get free supplies. 😣

    Thank you for this. I love her mission and heart. I'm brand new to homeschooling and this is by far the best program I've come across. It is so intuitive and true to its name EASY! I'm using Easy Peasy for bible, math, Language arts and reading. I prefer read alouds and museum trips for history and easy hands on experiments for science. But its so customizable. You dont have to be all or nothing. So many choices, absolutely love it! I bought the kindergarten workbooks from Amazon but I'll donate too. God bless her for all her hard work and generosity in making this free for families.

  • @alisiajimenez

    Exactly... I agree with what you stated. I just don't like all the reporting to the superving teachers with utilitizing a Charter such as attendance, work samples, and state testing. It's stressful at times. Our children's "homescool" charter said that if we don't do state testing, they will get kicked out. Their supervising teacher wants work samples that are on grade level and state standard for that time of the year. They want our children to learn certain grade level concepts by a certain time. To me, this is not homeschooling. This feels more like public school at home, which it is. Next school year, we may just homeschool independently or private school. I don't need the extra stress.

    Liberal homeschooler here!! 🙋🏻‍♀️ I think there are dogmatic controlling people on both ”sides”. I also know many intelligent and unintelligent people on both “sides”. I try hard not to judge a group of people based on a few experiences. We should be trying to find the humanity in other people instead of pushing each other further to the other “side”. So many people (on both sides) are so divided and self-righteous. I wish we could focus on coming together!! ❤

    It takes about an hour if you are making individual book assignments with a customized book list. It takes about a half an hour per kid if the kid is doing a more interest-led approach where they pick all of their reading. I guess it depends on how many kids you have and how old they are and if you have other major responsibilities. I'm really thankful that at the time it's working well for us 🙂

    As long as you don't criticize those who choose to charter. Getting funds and teaching public school at home is still beneficial for families who want a more homeschool environment where they can spend more time together as a family and learning values. As for the second reason, it isn't fair to be upset that charter kids don't have time to play with your kids. People can parent and educate their kids through whatever curriculum and activities they want. Yeah, you may have to work harder at finding homeschooling families who do it all on their own, but that's all part of the way.

    • @HomeschoolVoices
      @HomeschoolVoices Před 8 měsíci

      Well, my daughter is in a charter, so that would be silly of me 🤪. But I do feel that charters can detail true education and cause problems with community cohesion if you're not careful.

  • @bethart1985
    @bethart1985 Před 8 měsíci

    I agree! We started with an online Charter School in OK for our Pre-K daughter and they gave us $1000 a year to spend on certain things. Of course they never approved anything Christian and they basically made us do public school at home. After 3 years I was ready to do it on my own and this is our first year doing things our way. Guess what? I had to return all the non-consumable stuff that we had purchased with their money the last 3 years. They try to bribe you with the money you get but I'm telling you it was not worth it. We feel so free now doing things our way. Yes, it's more expensive but we can get the curriculum we want.

    • @jaciemokidm609
      @jaciemokidm609 Před 8 měsíci

      So what if the school doesn't approve of religious material? That part of your teaching can just come out of your own pocket and you'll still have more time to educate your kids in things you want than you would if they went to public school. Teaching religion is most effective through modeling from daily living, family values, and community anyway. Reading of course but that really shouldn't cost you anything.

    • @bethart1985
      @bethart1985 Před 8 měsíci

      @jaciemokidm609 I tried adding my own things in but with what they required and what we wanted to do as a family, we were getting so burnt out. Also a lot of the things they require does not hold the same values our family held. So I cut ties with them and now our curriculum can be all biblically based.

    I feel like what might be thought of as twaddle also can teach a lot about humour and the analysis of character motivations and symbolism can still go really deep. Ie I read Dear Dumb Diary as a kid (basically Diary of a Wimpy Kid for girls) and I learnt a lot about self deprecating humor and how we often don’t see the hard work behind people we are jealous of. I learnt this among other important social skills despite it being a slice-of-life children’s novel with pictures and limited vocabulary.

    • @HomeschoolVoices
      @HomeschoolVoices Před 8 měsíci

      Good point. But I do wish I would have challenged my kids a bit more when they were younger instead of allowing quite so much twaddle. But they seem to be doing ok now. I was pleasantly surprised when my 16-year-old enjoyed Hamlet recently! So maybe I didn't ruin him afterall ;)

    I watched both of these and they are very helpful and put me more at ease. This will be my first year homeschooling my boys in grades 1st and 6th. I would however like a step by step guide of how to grade their work and do their report cards, this is required by my state. I have not been able to find anything to walk me through it. Also can you change the number of days 180 to 170? My state only requires 170 days and a little over 1000 hours.
