Sunbeam T-48 Automatic Toaster in action!
A Sunbeam T-48 (Canada model) Automatic toaster. Found this at a local Value Village and had to buy it! It works good except for the middle section of the toaster gets too hot or something and it will burn the toast while the other side doesn't get nearly as toasted.

Lighting a vintage 1940's Preway P4521 2 burner Camp Stove and Boiling 1L of tap water. I recently bought this nice Wedge style Preway camp stove and used it on a recent camping trip. It worked quite well except some issues with the main burner. I would like to eventually replace the grate as it is quite worn on the main burner side.

The only thing I have done is change the va...

Starting the '05 International 7500 after sitting for about 3 hours. I believe the injector was leaking fuel into the cylinder while sitting so the engine was basically hydro-locking and making it difficult to start. After driving to the city to take it to the shop, I had to stall the truck out because it would stay running after turning the key off.

    Check to see if the gas tip is sized correctly. Wrap some aluminum foil around the tube that goes to that burner and slowly slide it back over the mix air inlets and see what happens. Of course make sure all the tubes are free of obstrucions. I pulled one apart a few years ago that must have had a thousand little spider skeletons in it. They are evidently the wasp's favorite food.

    Very nice clean specimen! Grates are pristine. You can cook a LOT of food on these puppies. My only real gripe on these is the damn wind screen retainers. I have never figured out how they were supposed to hold them in place when the wind is actually blowing. I resorted to clothes pins on the outside of the retainers. Please tell me what I'm not getting with these..... No one has been able to give me a good answer yet. It's really the only thing wrong with them IMO. I like the hairpin design ones that you squeeze to insert because actually they hold. It's good to see someone who knows how to properly shut these down. You're my kinda guy! haha!

    Nice stove! I have one of these. This one appears to be running a little lean. Is there a fan in the room running? The combustion air plate on the bunsen may need to be closed a tad. You can extend the life of the grate by straightening the bars so they are all in complete contact with the pot. Running them on high for any length of time with no heat sink will warp the crap out of them. I've had great success sil brazing or silicon bronze brazing(the welders out there are screaming about now) new grate rods or cutting the extra length out of the bent ones and rejoining them after straightening. Just do it on the end, and not above the burner. The only problem with finding a better one is that likely it will be attached to another stove that's in as good or better condition than this one.....haha!

    I grew up with one of these, as a matter of fact, it's sitting on the floor next to my chair. I hated it, it was always my job to keep it pumped up, and caught heck if I let it go out. I am thinking about converting it to propane cylinders, just to aggravate the folks I go camping with

    • @mikemorgan5015
      @mikemorgan5015 Před rokem

      Shouldn't need much pumping once the air valve is closed. I have on of these and it runs flawlessly. Weird, quirky, wedge design that I don't see much reason for. But that's what make it cool! These had GREAT paint jobs.

      @@mikemorgan5015 it was 30 + years old then. no internet it needed help and no one ever heard of it. from what I've heard you can use Coleman parts to rebuild the pump. I have the propane conversion part already, so if I go camping I don't have to carry the can of liquid fuel

      @@seymourwrasse3321 I have a few of those propane converters. I figure if I can't get one running after working on it for 36hrs straight, I'll resort to propane....haha! Actually, I just like to be prepared for whatever fuel is available, and I feel better about running propane in the house vs white gas if we lose utilities in the winter. Had to do that a few years ago during the big freeze rolling blackouts. I've made pump leathers in the field out of Army issue leather work gloves, the light tan ones. My little single burner 550B still has one in it. Still going strong 15 years later. The pumps look pretty much the same, so I bet you're right. I haven't even opened mine in probably 12 years or so. They work great. Now I GOTTA drag it out. I live in north Texas and have been cooking on camp stoves to help preserve our power grid. Ok, that's bullshit. I just like cooking on camp stoves. Haha! Tomorrow it's PreWay night.

      @@mikemorgan5015 back when I was young in the 60's, I guy my family knew used the small coleman lanterns on his boat, he refused to pay the price for the white gas and just used regular gas , I asked if it hurt the generators, he said yes in time, but he saved enough on the fuel, he pitched them over board and broke out a new one. I converted my battery powered coleman lantern to use my makita 18v batteries and will never look back

    • @mikemorgan5015

      @@seymourwrasse3321 Generators were marketed as consumables, and priced accordingly. Part of the annual pre season ritual was installing new generators on all the Colemans. Though most of them could be made to run like new in 5min with a bore brush and a propane torch. Or if you're even more nostalgic than me, a gasoline torch. Haha! Yeah if I find one of those at the right price in good condition, I'm getting one of those too. I've rebuilt hundreds of stoves and lanterns. Fuel powered lanterns may still have a niche market in polar exploration and stove/lantern collectors, but LEDs have made them all but redundant relics of a simpler time. But they still work great after nearly 100 years. I doubt any LED light will be around in 2123. But I doubt liquid fuel will be either. haha! But neither will I.
