Flooding from Tropical Storm Debby impacted JMU Campus and much of Harrisonburg, VA as 4in of rain was dumped in just a couple of hours on August 9, 2024.

As Tropical Storm Debby impacted Harrisonburg, VA on August 9, 2024, the creek behind JMU Campus in Harrisonburg, VA pushed out of its banks in just a short 15 minutes. I captured those 15 minutes, from breach to filling up the parking lot, and timelapsed it down to just 15 seconds. Scary to see how fast flash flooding can take hold.

Between August 8 and picking up on August 9, 2024, Debby put down over 4 inches of rain in Harrisonburg, VA and double that in areas just to the north and west.

Impacting the area on August 9, 2024, Tropical Storm Debby put a dent in the Extreme Drought in the area - dropping 4-8 inches of rain throughout the area.
