    This was the very first MLB game I ever attended! I was 7 years old and my dad took me and my older brother to opening day. I remember as if it was yesterday, Ted Williams hit a homer out of Griffith Stadium and I couldn't understand why my dad stood up and joined the ovation. I didn't realize that I was seeing a baseball legend in person!!

  • @mrhalfstep
    @mrhalfstep Před 3 lety

    I bought one of those testers and just like you, I found that I couldn't go the whole 20 amps because it exceeded the 185 watt limit on the max power. Here's the thing. You can raise the limit to 260 watts and that will allow 20 amps on a 12 volt battery. On my unit, I push the button until I get to the screen that says "< 185 w". At that point I push the button 2 times real quick and then, by holding down on the button, it will raise that number until I let off. If I go too high, I can push the button 3 times fast and the number goes down. To go down slow push 3 times fast, 3 times fast, 3 times fast, etc and it goes down 1 watt each time. Your unit has some buttons that mine doesn't have so maybe they're "up" and "down"? Once you get set to 260 watts, raise the unit up or tilt one end up and blow a small fan on the fins. The main thing to be concerned with is watching the temperature readout. 70 degrees C is where you want that to read. A little higher is OK, but when I used my unit without the extra fan and set to 185 watts, the temp stayed around 70- 73 C so I figured that's what's safe. The full 20 amps will make the testing take a lot less time and it will get you closer to what you might draw off the battery in actual use.. It's still just a .10C rate on a battery this big though. Couple things I'd like to share with you Brendan, and others, based on my recent efforts to figure out this Lithium battery revolution that we seem to be in now. If this battery is anything like the Battleborn battery, and I think it is (I have one of each), inside this plastic case is a bunch of battery cells and a circuit board, called the BMS, (Battery Management System) that keeps you from accidentally messing up your battery when you charge or discharge it. It also does some things that help you get the most energy out of the battery. One of those things is that it balances all the cells that are tied together to make the battery. That balance system doesn't start working in a Battleborn battery, specifically, until the charge reaches 14.2 volts. That means that, occasionally, you need to use a charger that goes to 14.2 - 14.6 volts, just to balance the cells from time to time. When you remove the charger, the voltage on the battery will drop to something like 13.2 v pretty quick. That's full charge. Most of the time, from what I've been able to find, you would want to charge at 13 v - 13.4 v and discharge down to about 12.4 v -12.2 v. This will let you get almost all the power out of the battery (90%) and not tax the chemistry of the battery too badly, thus giving you more years of service from the battery. That BMS will keep you from overcharging and destroying the battery and it will also cut the battery off before it gets so low that you damage the cells. Some BMS modules will keep you from charging the battery if it is in freezing conditions, but this battery doesn't have that, so don't charge it in freezing temperatures. I think I see a low temp cutout on your setup, so you know this, but others may not. You will do permanent damage to the cells. You can discharge it in really cold weather though. This battery does protect itself from charging if the temp is too high and it won't take a charge until it cools down. The BMS also limits how many amps you can pull at one time and will shut the battery down to protect itself. All those control features make it hard to tear up this battery, but they don't make it last as many years as possible. You control that by not charging it to its upper voltage limit, not running it all the way down to the lower voltage limit, drawing the power off only as fast as you need to, and making sure that sometimes you charge up to that 14.2 v - 14.6 v balancing charge. I use mine for boon-docking and as a backup power supply at home and I have no solar at the moment, so I can't speak to that, but what I just wrote should help for those that use a battery charger instead of solar.

  • @badgeriacone440

    Before you dropped those batteries in for your solar system did you charge them to 14.6 volts? I currently bought two, both had a voltage out of the box of 13.17 volts....is it super necessary to bring them to 14.6?

    • @brendan8363
      @brendan8363 Před 3 lety

      I did, because I also have a 110v charger that took them to 14.6. But the float profile in my victron charge controller is 13.2v and 14.2 for absorption.

  • @hammer-r
    @hammer-r Před 3 lety

    Thanks for the information. I actually bought two of them. I was so giddy on that price I had to buy a second one for capacity while boon docking. Way better than the Battle Born price. I currently have 800 watts of solar (4 x 200watt 24vdc Rich panels) on the roof of the new RV trailer and hope to test it out next month in Colorado. I had hoped to add more panels but the Victron I bought, 100/50 can only give me 720 watts max into 12Vdc batteries . My mistake on interpreting the parameters of the charge controller. I thought I had more capacity. Which Victron do you have? Just wondering. Thanks again. And yup the Ampere Time batteries are the real thing. Their customer service and technical help has been spot on and very responsive, giving me the confidence to buy them. Just a heads up, AT told me to set the absorption to 14.4vdc and the float to 13.8. What are your settings at?

    • @brendan8363
      @brendan8363 Před 3 lety

      I have the same 100|50 victron, and wired in series based on the pre-installed wiring that came with the camper- only 10ga, so I didn't want to push too many amps through that. I'll have to check on the charge specs; for now I just selected the default for LiFePO4 batteries in the Victron app... Thanks for sharing those recommended specs from AmpereTime. I reached out them after I got my battery and they comped me with a 10A battery charger (120v). I think these will catch on.

    • @hammer-r
      @hammer-r Před 3 lety

      @@brendan8363 wow that’s great that they comped you the charger. Somehow I missed that deal…lol I was worried about the current too so I have my four panels in series parallel. So two sets of two in series and then those two strings in parallel. The roof mounted dog house has two connection points but they are combined in the dog house. So for me my specs for the 24vdc panels is about 90vdc open circuit combined voltage and about 15-20 amps so the cables aren’t that big. As you know the charge controller can handle 100 volts from the panel and 50 amps to charge the batteries. Keep us up to date on what’s up. Thanks

    This is incredible coverage of Opening Day 1960 at Griffith Stadium, April 18th. President Eisenhower threw out 2 pitches into the group of players at the Senators dugout, that you can briefly see, after both teams' managers with Vice-President Nixon go out to raise the flag. Also you see Camilo Pascual warming up. He gave up only a homer to Ted Williams, but set an opening day record, striking out 15 batters. Priceless coverage of Ted Williams in his final year, both on opening day and the subsequent series with the Senators later in April in DC. Plus priceless coverage of Harmon Killebrew for the Senators. No Fenway Park here, all Griffith Stadium in April 1960. Should add these details to the title and you will get hundreds of views.
