Does the starting chain count matter?
No, it doesn’t matter. You can add or remove as many stitches as you’d like to get different sizes :)

Crochet this balloon and love it. Can I use other types of yarn like velvet instead?
One of the reasons blanket yarn works so well for these is because it absorbs quite a bit of water, allowing the ‘balloon’ to keep a lot of water. I’m not sure if velvet yarn would work as well. I’ve never tried it though so I can’t be sure.

I went with the most popular from my research, but it was fun learning all the different names people use for these! I don't think I've heard ice poles though. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I got some velvet spun yarn from Savers... I thought it was the same.. now I am not sure.. new here btw
I’m not sure velvet yarn would be able to soak up water as much as the blanket yarn, but I’ve never tried. Let me know if you try it and how it goes. Thanks for watching and hanging around 🙂
