Juniata River - 40/28 Yamaha jet 14 ft V-bottom runs from spot to spot
Another beautiful day on the water. Running a V-bottom with a Yamaha jet. Nothing crazy but it works great. #betterthanworkin'

If you don’t mind me asking, how shallow are you running in a couple of those spots? Looks like inches. Also do you have any issues in choppy water with the jet and V combo? Thought about buying a jet foot for my outboard for the shallow sandy river I run. Thanks
I can run in 6 or 8 inches of water. It's not a crazy shallow running boat. The way it's currently set up, it does pretty well in choppy water. I have ran it on a local lake that can get a little rough and it performed well. With the motor at its current height it isn't the fastest boat but it works great. I have another video running the river and at the beginning it has a close up of the set up.
@@themanmetz Thank you for the reply, that is a pretty awesome setup. I was concerned with the chop but sounds like a non issue! Thanks again.
Nice clear water
How you feel about flat bottoms vs V-bottoms?
Almost all of my experience has been with v-bottoms. I like how v-bottoms turn. No sliding they just bite and stay on line.
Too many people don’t know how to read the water
True. But other boaters usually mark these. Makes it easier for everyone but yeah it's a skill that's learned.
😍👍👏👏👏
I use my cub's hydraulics using a choker chain hooked to the rear lift link and lift the butt of the log off the ground. That way the butt doesn't catch on any roots, rocks etc.
Thanks for the tip! I will try this out soon.
This will not work if you have a bad downdraft in the morning.
Who could not love the Cub Tractor. I'm grandfather traded in his 2 mules for a new 1948 Cub. Used it on his NC Tobacco farm.
We certainly love our Cub. It's definitely a reliable workhorse.
Bringing back memories!!!
We have a photo of a relative plowing snow in the 1960's with the Cub. Great little tractors.
Heck of a job from a 2 wheel drive older, sure don’t make em like they used to, tractor
It never ceases to amaze me what these old Cubs can do.
15 inch transom?
It was a 15 inch transom to start with. After I got the jet, I raised it to 21.5 inches.
Hey Andrew cool video. I just picked up a Crestliner 1450 discover tiller which is a V-hull and it has a 60/40 merc jet pump. I haven't got it out to the river yet, but your video gives me hopes that it will perform well enough to run pretty shallow. The big bonus with some V is going to be a much smoother ride when the chop comes up. We often have to run big water to get to the more shallow sections. Thanks man
ive not long moved into a home with a solid fuel stove/cooker however where i live we are only allowed to burn 'smokeless' fuels which kind of defeats the point. thanks for the vid
I thinking about doing this Can it plane with 3 ppl Thanks
Yes it can. I have had my Dad and both my daughters in the boat with all our fishing gear and it still planes out fine.
What exactly does "40/28" mean? Seems like 40 would be the HP? New to the jet drives so I am trying to learn.
Yes, 40 hp power head. So if this was a typical prop motor it would be rated 40 hp. The jet is a less efficient method of providing thrust. My understanding is that a 40 hp outboard equipped with a jet pump provides the same amount of thrust as a 28 hp prop outboard.
you fill up,the stove pack in the large wood
😊kiiiiib
I have a 40/28 Evinrude I’m looking to put on something. What was the top speed and how shallow have you gone with the v hull
I would say top speed was about 25-26 mph the way it sits. I hit 30-31 mph when the motor was set up a little too high. I would guess I ran in 6 inches of water without hitting.
Nice!
Thanks for watching!
I’m really surprised with the deep v and smaller jet. Jumps right up, has respectable speed, and it turns really well
I really didn't know what to expect. The boat originally had a 25 hp Evinrude prop motor that worked well, but I really wanted to try a jet. Thanks for watching!
A Cub was the tractor I grew up with on my parents' small ranch. It was a treat to watch you start yours, because we always used the crank to start ours. I had no idea what the electric starter sounds like lol.
Thanks for watching! Our Cub is a 1961 model. I'm not sure when electric start became an option but it sure is convenient.
@@themanmetz Ours had an electric starter but my dad was too cheap to buy a 6v battery and make the starter work. I was forced to use the Armstrong starter lol.
Nice setup man. Looks like it pops right up on plane.
Thanks! It works well for my needs and it's easy to hit the chutes being a relatively small boat.
Looks like fun ! Next video should be on the new saw !
I think your tractors sexy 😉
Awesome. I had a small rig once. A bit heavier than yours but it also ran in inches of water and was east to handle if I did get grounded. m.czcams.com/video/RLOD1vHYe-s/video.html Check it out. I did sell and bought a 18 foot jet with a 302 ford . But looking again for a small rig just for fun.
You need to clean all the as out or won't light
What a beautiful fire it holds. I can feel the warmth❤
It may be an old stove but it really makes heat!
Love seeing the Farmall Cub. It’s what Igrew up on.
It's been our family tractor for a long time. Thanks for watching!
Nice. It seems to handle well. Before lowering the intake, I might have tried jet fins. But what is done is done. My boat is a much heavier beast and a flat bottom. So at speed, I might tend to drift a little on a turn. Watching you pick your line at the tail of that pool reminded me of that.
Thanks for the tip. I hope to experiment more with the set up. Thanks for watching!
Would you happen to have a set of jet fins you would recommend? Thanks in advance.
Definitely, Intake fins and take that center strake out and she’d run mint
Cool fix and cheap to I like it. Thank You
Thank you sir!
What city/county is this located at? Thanks
Does that effect the shifter?I broke it some more trying to get it in drive.
good information. thanks
Thanks for making the video. You just saved alot of time on troublshooting my problem.
thank you I'm perfectly happy now that I can start my truck by pushing the rod & with out lifting the hood to jump the solenoid!
I have the same issue with my truck as jody sixstrings can start but no shift! HELP!!!
I have seen people use a switch. I bought a parts truck and how it worked was that you had to turn the key to the "on" position. Then hit a start button on the dash. But if you want to bypass the key you will have to do some creative wiring at the ignition switch on the bottom of the steering column. It can be done but be careful with the wiring. A lot of items get power through that switch.
i am so glad i found this video, thanks for clearing up this issue.
they have good torque about 40 ft/lbs and it is a water cooled 4 cylinder. the 12 hp number that the engine is rated as is deceiving in a world of 20 hp lawn tractors, the cub is more powerful then you would think; not saying that its a monster just then they have enough power to turn a 60" deck effectively. the c60 is also a very durable engine and will outlast more modern gasoline engines between overhauls. these were/are great tractors
what a great fishing water!
if its a automatic yes but, n a stander its just a hole 4the rode to brake off in
will that prevent the shifting lever from moving/engaging ? my actuator arm is broke i can start truck by pushing rod with pliers but can't get shifting lever to engage
Did you ever find the answer? I have the exact same issue.
Just bought the same motor.. currently working on a rebuild. Hopefully I'll be able to post a video in the two weeks of it running... HOPEFULLY.
I got the same exact boat, with a johnson 1975, but my motor wont start very easily, nice boat u got your duracraft set up like i want mine.
Nice little Cub! We used to raise fruit commercially and used two Cubs and a 140, all with sickle bar mowers. Perfect for getting under the trees.
gotta love the sound of them old 262's
wow...tire chains? I thought that is why you had the R-1 ag tread tires. Not enough traction huh? Hmm. shame.
was just wondering if u were at full throttle with the motor. i have a 14ft v-bottom as well. there is a video of mine on here too, check it out
was just wondering if u were at full throttle with that. i have a 14ft v bottom as well with same motor on mine. have a video of it on here, check it out
Farmall Cubs are cool. I wanna learn more about them. I thought they had more horsepower. Aren't they 4 cylinder water cooled engines? I'll have to look it up. It's pretty quiet. I bet the engine has a lot of torque.
