It has been a looong time! Cool stuff!!
Yeah, I am back! 😊
This is almost exactly how i pictured doing it, i really like your style! Thanks for the confirmation and ideas!
God this piece is awesome but what a horrible video without and direction! Please talk and inform us on what ur doing or stuff ur using.
Its called glassblowing, so the stuff is glass. You learn these skills by closely observing and by try end error. You just have to work with glass over and over and over again, every day, 6-10 hours, for at least 3 years. Then you can master most of the basics. As a teacher for 15 years my experience is that too much explanation is not helpful but distracting.
I was just looking for the song glass butterflies and this popped up :/
I am sorry for this, but thank you for the hint. I will look for it too.
Once the wings are pressed and pulled, do you have to flash them to prevent shocking or do you keep them out of the flame?
Out of the flame but near on the heat so the tension will ease while they cool slowly down.
Brilliant!!!
Why is this called "glassblowing"?
Its called Lampworking, because the torch sits on the desk much like a lamp. but people call it glass blowing also because when you are using tubing you do "blow" into it to puff out bubbles etc. but what you are thinking of is soft glass with blow tubes and puntees and stuff. I think glassblowing just gets the point across better to the common person
nice piece but....can't see what you are doing
Yeah, its difficult to make a good video. The flame is hot and very bright. I am experimenting with diffent technology and filters but on a low budget.
@karolin do you offer tuition? I'd love to start making glass animals in a similar way and trying to work out how I can get started - equipment, technique, etc? Any advice would be great!
Hi John, now I am back and if you are still interested I will gladly help with any kind of information.
Its very beautiful, this came up in my "Recommended for you" list so I clicked on it. Now Im glad I did, and my name means "butterfly" LoL..
Didymium camera lens would be nice, but very cool havent made one before ill give it a shot
There is already one on the camera. The flame is still very bright. Haven't found a solution for this problem yet but I keep trying.
I love it
Omfg I commented this when I was like 11 😳
😁 I was a very long time away from my torch and even youtube. Children can be very distracting. 😉😘
it looked more beautiful than I thought it would
beautiful
Bravo.
The difference between a tutorial and a demonstration: a tutorial is when you explain step by step what you're doing and allow the person to see exactly what you're doing. A demonstration is what you are doing here... Where you just do what you are doing and allow people to watch. I wish people would stop labeling demonstrations as tutorials because it would cut down on a lot of wasted time for those of us who are actually trying to find tutorials. Not trying to be rude, but hopefully for future references you'll label it differently... With that said, your work is beautiful. I would love to see an actual tutorial.
Thank you. As someone with english just as a third language, I was not aware of this. I will label it different on future projects.
simply beautiful. :D
OMG,epic art!
xD I thought you were making a parrot and in my mind I was like "That's one ugly ass parrot. Why is it Black? Those wings are Way too long!"
ummm that's okay
Sometimes it looks like your hand gets so close to the flame. Makes me cringe DX
It's 2D bro xD
it does vget close to the flame ive flashed my fingers a time or two lol even the glasses make it hard to see the actual flammage and where your hand is lol
Thats mostly a perspective thing. I have a lot of burnings on my skin but till now, and I started with flamework in 1998, I never burnt my hands or fingers directly in the flame. But I cringed myself seeing the video. It just looks weird.
Id be the 1st glass blower to ever burn himself alive!
Love it!
Beautiful and delicate .
Beautiful work.... You have talent!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Lovely. But I'm sure it would shatter if I tried. (I couldn't afford the torch for borosilicate)
I work softglass. While learning this, you shatter nearly everything for the first three years.
Aww I had a glass unicorn when I was a kid that got broken when we moved. This makes me miss it. It's so beautiful!

Amazed
i just sat here and watched all of this without a sound. That's beautiful!
I'm looking for glass camels. Do u have any in your store?
That's a very unprofessional answer to someone interested in a purchase from you.
Anne Parker if you notice by the user name its not the person who made the video that said that to you.
sure why not :)
You are amazing
Beautiful
Very impressive!!
thank you for taking the time to put this tutoiral together it would be nice to see the end product.
lovely
What glass mark you use because I have use efettre and when I try to do butterfly they break
I work with effetre, lauscha, murano, ukraine and reichenbach glass. Its very special with softglass. You have to work nearly tension free. I will write a tutorial if you are still interested.
I actually would like some directions as I'm watching. Like the colors you chose or even about how big the body is.
I will add this. Had no time when I made the video years ago.
this is boro? the water peaces seems a bit fragile or they will withstand everyday wear? my beads all the time cracking, but i don't have kiln for annealing and just started. )))
Its softglass. I work only softglass and I have also no kiln. There are skills to prevent creating too much tension inside the piece.
Im a beginning beginner...lol. How do you keep from cracking those beautiful wings?
I like to hear music or an good book all the day and when I am looking a good tutorial then I am interested on the hows and hints the fingers of the master gives me. I really dislike to get distracted by anything else and especially some kind of music I detest and so I choose to make this little tutorials without auditive background. You are free to choose your own favourites while you are watching.
/watch?v=51nafDR-CcY play that while watching
It needs sound just like music at least
why isn't there any sound?
