Chef Sean Brock on Editing Your Work and The Wisdom of Mississippi Hill Country Blues
Award-winning chefs Sean Brock and Camille Cogswell teamed up with slide guitarist and songwriter Reed Turchi on a dinner celebrating soul food and North Mississippi hill country blues.
They sat down with us at Sean's restaurant, Husk Nashville, to talk about the similarities between cooking and making music, their shared love of North Mississippi hill country blues, and how happiness (or misery) influences the creative process.

How to Practice Alternating Thumb Fingerpicking
Guitar player is a stud
Had to come back to watch this over after watching the Guitar Moves episode with Sturgill. He talks about the flipping of the control plate on Laur's Tele so he can control the volume knob with his pinky.
Letterman was such a dork. Who let him keep that job?
Best part, just after it starts, you see someone turning the volume UP!!!
Frickin' Amazing talent!
Tho I definitely prefer this in 432 hz. But this is literally one of my favorite things in the world. And I'm not even a coke🥥🇨🇨🌴👃🏽🤧head or anything. Just absolutely love this song. Did anyone else notice similarities between this song and " when the saints going marching in"? Melody wise. ( Not in a knock-off kind of way or anything like that ) I like this song a trillion times more
I notice the importance of resting your picking thumb on the string below. That way you always know where your thumb is in relation to the strings. Thanks!!!
Me too 😂
you bet yer sweetass countrys still in business
so good
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love the whole band!!!❤❤❤
This and give it up are probay the two best tomoght show sowsive seen since ever
gay
Tele heaven
God Bless It! I absolutely love Sturgill but the lead guitar is something of amazement !!
The whole band is great honestly.
My best friend moved away a few years ago, I had only known him for a year but we kept in contact. Almost a year after he moved, maybe two, we started calling everyday. I was on a trip to Europe at the time. We both confessed to liking each other since we met. We decided, due to the distance, to wait on dating. We finally visited half a year after that. Long story short, he's my boyfriend now, we're in love, and this is our song.
I hear the train a comin' ...... more than the guitar.....
His name is Laur Joamets.
Love Sturgill Simpson. His music. I’m not gay.

My favorite song in the whole world 💙🤍
Some people say country is dead, but it ain't dead you just got to know where to look
Amen brother, none of the shit mainstream “country music” this is real county music! What a voice sturgill has 👊🏻👊🏻
@@michaelburke2789 today's "country" sounds like nickleback with a southern accent. and it's all about the money and not about the culture. guess i got old
Is there a sock in his mouth?
He's been compared to early Waylon Jennings. I can hear it.
Just wonderful
I like to imagine Dave saw sturgill backstage and told him to play whatever he felt like. “This crowd isn’t yours and you’re not gonna sell more records with my audience, but I am glad you’re here. So play whatever you want please.”
Probably with a “Paul loves you.”
1:41 that guitar lick along with a million others in this song just kick some ass
Just came across this guy…. Phenomenal!!!
This lady is much deeper and sexier than Taylor Swift could ever hope to be.
Best Band Sturgill had.
If life were fair and a lot of people weren't dicks Sturgill Simpson would be mainstream.
Sturgill doesn't get the credit he deserves. He's a GREAT songwriter. I'm a musician and have been learning his songs. I just learned "Turtles". It sounds like a country song but it's not the usual verse, verse, chorus, verse, chorus. It's a LONG verse, then a LONG refrain and then a weird little outro tacked on the end. It's fucking genius.
Totally agree. I think he’s ultra talented. Off the charts. LOVE his stuff.
way better than anything you can find floating around the radio today, thats for sure.@@kevinrenegar8757
He’s an amazing songwriter and turtles is so simple yet incredible I agree. Long White Line is actually a cover tho.
That lead guitar diffently got his shit together!
@@bobstone8667 Nio Kidding! Dude is from Estonia.
They sound like a local bar band. Meh
Wowowow, her and the band… it’s been a long since we heard music this good. 👏
Not sure if you guys still do CZcams, but I would love a video about the Peruvian straps (since I just pre-ordered one 😁😁😁).
Angel !!
Great performance. Before she completely blew up
Holy shit that guitarist is amazing
Started reading the description thinking this was cbs yt channel. Then I realize it’s a fuzz company uploading it cuz this bamf of a guitar player is running their pedal. LOVE IT!This tele fuzz tone is stanky!
Sturgill
Stud
Love H.C. McEntire on Backup Vocals!
Sturgill rules! I hope he goes on tour again.
Chorus on album sounds like "shock the little retard". Sounds the same live.
🤠👍👍🔥🌲💨💨
This man is a gem!
That guitar player popped a wheelie for the whole song.
It's like listening to Danny Gatton at times.
Totally. I miss hearing Laur Joametz in Sturgill's music - his fills are over the top and it really is clear how much source material he's studied!
@@StephenJamesGoodWill What's the story on Sturgill's guitarists over the years? Just discovered him.
@@LPManic he's Estonian!
Would love to see her speed this up a bit for a more chaotic punk feel. Incredible nonetheless
