      Did you buy it new? If so they should be able to send you one, if it’s second hand then I’d reach out to Body Glove as they likely have them for sale. You can also try a paddle board shop or online as many fin boxes are the same so another company’s fin will also work.

    I have a pair of Scarpa Freedom boots and they are a little to upright for me. Can the forward lean be increased? If so, how?

    • @Backcountryskiingcanada
      @Backcountryskiingcanada Před 2 měsíci

      Most AT boots have a forward lean adjustment built into the ski/walk mechanism on the outside of the boot's spine. You can typically remove the plate that is found under the lock mechanism, unscrew it and flip it around to get more or less forward lean. Not sure how it works on these boots as they are quite old now. Hopefully this helps.

    • @Backcountryskiingcanada
      @Backcountryskiingcanada Před 3 měsíci

      They are incredibly stiff but still progressive in the upper flex, could easily be a resort boot that is light enough to tour. Alpine boots are likely more stiff but also so much heavier and not as comfy.

    Any good way to judge safety based on how hard you are pulling? Like how much force is enough to deem it “safe” to continue. Thanks for the vids

    • @Backcountryskiingcanada
      @Backcountryskiingcanada Před 3 měsíci

      Glad you enjoyed the video. There is no hard and fast rule as to how much force exerted on the column is related to safety. Given that everyone is different we will all pull at different rates of force and then we also all have different thresholds for what we consider to be safe. Because of this you really just have to gain some experience digging pits and performing this and other tests, just like you need to gain experience in other aspects of backcountry travel. This test is just one of many indicators you would use to make a 'go' or 'no go' verdict. All of these things will be taught in an avalanche course, which I highly recommend everyone take! Sorry for such a vague answer but there are so many parameters that affect the decision process and ultimate outcome. If you can take a course please do so and if you already have then find a mentor or hire a guide so that you can gain the valuable experience needed to safely travel in avalanche terrain.

  • @sunnywyrzykowski6922
    @sunnywyrzykowski6922 Před 3 měsíci

    Could you explain how many taps until a sheer is concerning. For instance I took 21 taps for this test to fail. Is that a cause for concern? If it took 5 taps that would obviously be concerning. 10? How concerning is that. 15? 20? Thanks for the vids. Very informative

    • @Backcountryskiingcanada
      @Backcountryskiingcanada Před 3 měsíci

      Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for your question. As I mentioned in the answer to your other question there is no hard and fast rule as to how many taps are related to safety as we all have different thresholds for what we consider to be safe. Obviously, if you get a fail on tap 1 you would not consider things to be safe. but, as you mention where do you draw the line then? Is a fail on tap 10 ok or perhaps tap 15? This all depends upon how the column fails, is clean, does it crumble or does it 'cash register' off the block with enough force to fall to the ground? Also, the results are relative to the terrain you are performing the test on and where you plan to ski. Remember that the test you perform only provides results for that exact location, it has no bearing on the snowpack down the slope, to the left or right. This means that the results are not only subjective to your risk and tolerance levels but also only tell you what is happening in that exact location. Sorry for such a vague answer but there are so many parameters that affect the decision process and ultimate outcome. If you can take a course please do so and if you already have then find a mentor or hire a guide so that you can gain the valuable experience needed to safely travel in avalanche terrain.

    • @Backcountryskiingcanada

      That is a great question. Given that I could not ski the previous version and this new version of the Sero G Skis with Carbon Drive 2.0 in them I cannot really place any quantitative judgement on them. The new version skis amazing and they feel a little more responsive but again it is really hard to notice without doing a back-to-back comparison. How many times can you re-use skins if you're careful to only ski on snow? Does the adhesive on the ski side wear off?

    • @Backcountryskiingcanada
      @Backcountryskiingcanada Před 4 měsíci

      Thanks for a great question. For those new to ski touring it may seem that the adhesive would quickly wear off the skin after each use. When in reality good quality climbing skins can last for years and years of use. The glue does not degrade that much unless it becomes contaminated with dirt, hair and other fibres. I have had skis for over 5 years and used them more than 30 times per season. It is also important to store the skins properly in the off-season so that the glue maintains it tackiness.

    Thanks for the great review! Have you had any issues with wetting through? I'm getting a new shell and looking into a futurelight ot goretex shell. • @Backcountryskiingcanada
      @Backcountryskiingcanada Před 5 měsíci

      Any shell will "wet-out" after some use, this is just the DWR or Durable Water Repellant wearing off the jacket's exterior. It can be renewed easily when the jacket is washed and should be done often to prevent that "wet-out" look. This would not cause the jacket to "wet-through" however which is a failure of the fabric to prevent water from penetrating the fabric and getting to the inside of the jacket. If this happens that is a more serious issue and a possible warranty scenario. I find that Futurelight and Neoshell are the best fabrics for breathability and waterproofness, but I do believe that Gore-Tex has the best warranty with their "Guaranteed to keep you dry" promise. I hope that this helps!

I am unable to fit the boots in any of Ortovox shell pants released in the past few years. The boots circumference is about 51 cm (20",) the pants leg openings are 53 cm (21") and it's not a tight fit. I can easily slide the pants up to operate on the buckles. I cannot fit the boots in the latest 3L Guardian Shell Pants size M. I've tried even size XL, it doesn't fit. The 3L Ravine Shell Pants are not available in any stores nearby, so I can't go and try them myself. If anyone has a pair, would you please measure the leg opening and post it? Thanks.

    Hi, as the video is 3 years old, do you still use the Barryvox S and did you have any issues with it ? I'm thinking of buying one to replace my old Arva

      @Backcountryskiingcanada Před 6 měsíci

      Hi Jean Micheal, even though the transceiver is 3 yrs old now it is still a solid unit and very popular. I don't think you can go wrong with the Barryvox S.

    It’s not a clean shear, which is good, but that still could be problematic with skier momentum/force on it. A clean shear would make me very nervous.

      Agreed, that is much worse and a clear sign of a large instability in the snowpack.

    I like you, you are exactly right to the point, you tell it just the way it should be told, you tell it the way it happened, your right there, no if,and's or but's ! If I was a Canadian Citizen I'd would take my Level 1 and 2 from you, I like your style.You should consider writing a book on/about Avalanches, I'd be your 1st customer in buying 2 copies,one for me and one for my Nephew.Keep the videos rolling in, maybe make one 1 hr long, I'll supply the popcorn.Happy Holidays and Happy New Years.4:57pm,12-21-23, Washington State,USA,I work at Steven's Pass Ski Resort.

      Hi @andrewang17 , Thank you for your inquiry. The LiTRIC backpack is certified according to the EN16716 standard. Within the specifications of this standard, there is a requirement to indicate the maximum number of deployments. For the LiTRIC, this maximum deployment count is set at 50.The certification under EN16716 ensures that the LiTRIC meets rigorous safety and performance standards established for avalanche airbag systems. If you have any further questions or if there's anything else you'd like to know, feel free to ask. 😊

      How many years the system is going to work. I'm a 1-2 time per year type of a person and investing so much into a bag that can brake apart on seams or electric system dier out (capacitors) or the proprietary battery not being available for replacement

    • @Backcountryskiingcanada

      It takes about 5 seconds for the airbag to fully inflate which ie pretty impressive considering the volume of the bag. @@andrewang17

    Thank you for the thorough explanations, nice video! Just wondering if i can use a Hydration Bladder System with the Backpack? Is there any Option maybe with the bigger compartments to use a Bladder? Thank you from Germany!

    • @Backcountryskiingcanada
      @Backcountryskiingcanada Před 6 měsíci

      Glad you enjoyed the video and found it informative. You can definitely use a hydration system with the pack as it has a pass through on the shoulder strap for the hydration tube as well as a hanger for the water bladder as well. It does however not have a separate compartment for the bladder itself which would be a nice addition to the bag's design. I really like the Ortovox DIRACT VOICE device. I know it doesn't have the range of some other models but for the average person, it's a great device with 3 antennas, and the voice directions etc. I like it because it's not complicated to get used to using it. I'm sure you've seen it by now. I'm wondering your thoughts on it. Like I said, I think it's very user friendly and works great. But I haven't used anywhere near as many as you have. But Ortovox in general IMHO makes solid gear and I think this was a great innovation on their part.

    • @Backcountryskiingcanada
      @Backcountryskiingcanada Před 6 měsíci

      Yes, the Diract Voice is a great transceive and we actually wrote a full review of it here: www.backcountryskiingcanada.com/Ortovox-Diract-Voice-Transceiver It is a little more expensive but worth every penny if you want an easy to use transceiver. It is by no means perfect and we made a few recommendation on how it could be improved so be sure to read the review!

    I still have doubts about ALL shovels sold for "avalanche" purposes. Obviously what is needed is an entirely new design. Will that ever happen? No, not as along as people are willing to pay overly large sums of money for shovels that are inadequate.

    • @Backcountryskiingcanada
      @Backcountryskiingcanada Před 6 měsíci

      Not sure what your doubts are but more are pretty reliable and purpose built for avalanches and given the low numbers sold they are naturally more expensive than a regular shovel, now not to mention the higher end materials and features.
