And also a question for you: Would it help if the batch is stick blended through emulsification to light trace, and then the fragrance added right at the end, and only hand stirred in. Mixed in evenly but for say no more than 20 seconds. Then poured into the mould? I wonder…. 🤷🏾‍♀️

      The trouble they have is soap recipes vary so wildly that they may test it in their recipe and have mild to no acceleration and yet another person may have moderate to heavy acceleration. I usually test an oil in a small batch first regardless of what kill info a supplier may have on my recipe. Perhaps you should offer fragrance suppliers my services to test oils and give soaping notes?

      I will always maintain you need to do what works for you and, what makes you feel safest when soaping. I’d never say you had to use one thing versus another. I’d also not outrightly shame someone for their choice - but offer suitable alternatives and suggestions I have tested and tried myself - or an honest opinion on things I haven’t tried (and then test them out so I can be sure for myself if my opinion on that idea was correct or not)

  • @RK-iw6lp

    • @QueerBullSoap
      @QueerBullSoap Před měsícem

      5g is equivalent to a teaspoon and 15g equivalent to a tablespoon. The thing with clay and charcoal - they are very easy to add or subtract from a recipe (just be aware clay can accelerate trace) So you can add a teaspoon of each and see how that feels or add a tablespoon of each and adjust as necessary

    The 1:1 Coconut bar is an ideal Laundry soap. Either for handwashing items or shedding into your homemade laundry soap mix. // Olive Oil soaps, I’ve always understood, require 12 months cure time 9-12. And as a result they are more expensive, and the slime factor diminishes 😊. // Rapeseed’s other name is Canola Oil. It’s a man made ‘creation, and statistics prove it to be Very deleterious to health. An interesting exercise Bravo 👏

    Do you ever use specialty salt? Like pink Himalayan salt, black or red Hawaiian salt, etc. Not just from an interesting visual perspective, but I was wondering if different kinds of salts (with different mineral contents) affect the batter and recipe.

    • @QueerBullSoap
      @QueerBullSoap Před měsícem

      Salt is salt - so as far as adding salt to a bar - fine salt will almost dissolve where coarse salt will show as crystals in the final soap. Keep specialty salts for decoration and for label appeal.

      Each 1 gram of citric acid consumes 0.624g of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) So for every gram of citric acid yuu need to add 0.624g of lye. Weight of citric acid in grams x 0.624 = the amount of additional sodium hydroxide required.

      And that’s the important thing - preferences are valid and one type of soap is not better or worse than another - they are just different and each has their merits. I love cold process for the techniques and designs I can do but love hot process for the ability to use it quicker and add super fat oils after cook for additional benefits. I even enjoy melt and pour for its vibrancy.

    I made this soap yesterday and cut into 4 chunky bars like you, using 93% & 7%. Big size bar cuts and it makes sense if it’s a utility soap for kitchen and bathroom cleaning. Unfortunately it is all yellow all round the wall of the soap, white on the top and inside. 🙆🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️. My silicon mould is purple like yours, what could make that happen using the same recipe as you? I used 1% Superfat which I’ve never done before, and it is so hard, it actually feels like a thick CANDLE block The soap is so hard that yes, I had to cut with a big strong knife. My question - do I still need to wait 4 weeks to cure. It being so hard and dry? Please do answer, and much appreciated. Ps - Weeks later. The soap bars have turned out fine, all white after the first wash - a lovely lovely very very very soapy bar, it lathers up in seconds. And I can really feel the difference between this and a superfatted soap of 5-7% which are moisturising but more oily for skin use. I use it for handwashing, washing dishes, pots and pans, washing out my bath and sink daily, kitchen surfaces, even small hand washing. No oily residue. It feels like a commercial soap. It’s perfect soap! I am gonna make some more, smaller round ones (the 4 big chunky cuts were too big that I kept dropping them, so I cut them down to standard soap square sizes). in a couple of different colours and an essential oil fragrance. This is one of my best soap feel I have made. So good and so simple I might gift some. With a tiny wooden natural scrubber brush accessory. Thank you again.

      So it coke just be some discolouration from the mould it may be that the coconut oil was older - but because this is a cleaning soap the orange really isn’t a worry - and unless the bar has a noticeable smell I wouldn’t be too concerned

    Love the terracotta myself, the orange, purples, and the blue -a very strong total blue. Just starting to dabble with micas after resisting for some time, using clays and botanical instead. But I do want to explore more vibrant colours so long as they are not too neon bright like the yellow here. I would probably pastel down those bright ones for me. Thanks for the experimentation.

    Could you put soap in a dehydrator?

      As I don’t own a dehydrator I can’t confirm this but my understanding this leads to a soft with low longevity. The one option most soapers will return to is a natural cure with good airflow.
