Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment, or SBIRT, is an evidence-based prevention and early intervention technique to identify, reduce, or prevent use of alcohol and other substances in adults and adolescents. Screening and Brief Intervention is recommended as a standard of care in primary healthcare settings by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, American Academy of Pediatrics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, SAMHSA, and the Veterans Administration.

As a program of Peer Assistance Services, Inc., the goal of SBIRT in Colorado is to promote SBIRT as a standard of care throughout Colorado healthcare systems.
