The Swindon Railway Festival returns to STEAM on 10th and 11th September 2022!

John Cooke Bourne was a British artist, engraver and photographer. He was born in 1814, so was in his 20’s when the GWR was beginning to be built. In 1846 he published a book titled The History and Description of the Great Western Railway. The book featured a series of drawings of landmarks along the GWR route.     Thanks saw this loco at Shildon’s Locomotive museum, she was easily my favourite loco there. I’m pleased she is back home. I’m a GWR convert, having been a LNER loco spotter as a boy, also saw many LMS. I love GWR 2-8-0 & 2-8-0T and 72xx.

    I 'spotted' this loco on my annual holiday to South Wales, which would have been 1963 as she was withdrawn later that year from Neath

    I was there again this year, 3 in a row. Took my Thomas the tank engine and Stephenson's rocket train models in hopes of getting a few pictures and there was a stand where someone displayed their own versions of those trains. Hope to get a display there one day
