Host and singer Talisman opens the night with the Karaoke From Hell band at Dante's in Portland, Oregon. As this was the first song when the mix is still being dialed in, and I was still figuring out a completely new camera/recorder, the vocal isn't as audible as it should be. Mine was a newbie mistake I should have remembered from days of old: standing too close to the stage means being way too off axis from the house mains to pick up the vocals and bass guitar well. I also had no idea how crazy wide-angle the lens was going to be. I miss using camcorders with useful viewfinders, smooth optical zoom, and the stability that comes with a little weight. Maybe I'll just go back to using tape and deal with the limitations of NTSC. This description brought to you by Sad Old Man Complains About Everything.

Track 10 on the Laurelthirst show playlist on my Soundcloud is the same song. Calling it "Walking Round Town", but that is not the correct title. The arrangements are very different, but it is the same song, and the Laurelthirst version is much clearer. A studio session with this song will be posted to Soundcloud as soon as I can afford to buy more time/space there.

...interesting. I love that you panned around to show what they were doing; too many videos fail to do that. Chains didn't do much on the floor tom, but he produced some intriguing ambient syncopation from the snare as well as a lot of color from the ride. ...would love to see more of these, but it feels kinda lonely in here at 30 views, so perhaps yer not so motivated. ...alas. Thank you for posting this.
Belated thanks for the comment. I loved working on this record, and it ended up being the only full-length I worked on that got released on a label (a small, now defunct, indie label, but still, they toured off of this album in clubs all over the U.S.). The album version of this track, especially on headphones, is super spooky. The chains on the snare sound like ghosts of distant warfare. They liked it so much they included two versions, one forward and the other reversed.

This. 1000X *this*. I went to see them in concert. They were lousy (tired from a long tour) and it was still great. I bought a fuckton of vinyl plus the few CDs I didn't already have. I miss my EEVIAC CD with the punched holes in the cover.

Thanks! I had the surreal pleasure of Starcrunch telling me the same thing after a 2010 reunion show in Birmingham.
Sadly, I only managed to shoot the first three songs on video before the battery went dead. I have the whole show in good quality audio however, since that it what I was asked to do by the band. There were other guys with better cameras than mine shooting video, and I think it was all supposed to get edited together at some point, but as far as I know, it hasn't happened yet. I'll ask about it the next time I see someone from the band.
