    Thanks man, I'm about to do the setup on my acoustic guitar after many years of never doing it...! I think you didn't check specifically for the intonation? Or maybe you kind of did it at the end when you played some chords?

    Checking for relief is done by, capo 1st fret, then hold down the string at the 14th fret and then check the neck relief at the 6th fret. This is checking the relief of the neck in the middle of the neck to body joint. This is also in the middle of the truss rod.

    Did you fix your ceiling yet? Let me just say it, clean the rusted rebars and buy a bag of sika "concrete repair mortar" and be done with it in an afternoon

      In the not too distant future I will buy some "concrete repair mortar" and do a short video of the repair just for you 😂 p.s. you are right it isn't ideal and does need fixing.

    Thank you for the inspiration. I was thinking of practicing at a graveyard at night. That's what made Robert Johnson great, he practiced at graveyards because you won't bother anyone.

    I have a lot of woodworking experience (although I've only made one guitar from scratch; a Tele copy, and it wasn't good!). Regarding MDF dust, and sanding in general, I recommend using a better mask (or proper respirator), and better extraction. I use a "press-to-check" filter mask, which is much better than the cheaper ones, and seals quite well, even with facial hair. I look forward to seeing how your guitars turn out.

    • @JayJamesGuitars
      @JayJamesGuitars Před 6 měsíci

      Thank you for the comment pal this was in the top of my to-do list, however funnily enough my dad watched my video and purchased me a proper respirator and a set of ear defenders so that has that sorted 😀. As for dust extraction that is not something I can Invest to heavily into right now and good old Henry hoover is going to have to suffice until hopefully the not too distant future. Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you rhere for the journey.

    • @1man1guitarletsgo
      @1man1guitarletsgo Před 6 měsíci

      @@JayJamesGuitars I have a Henry, but also an Axminster extractor with a built in auto-start function, so it starts when the tool plugged into it starts. I also have (from eBay) a cyclone that I cobbled onto the top of a plasterer's bucket. It catches most of the sawdust, thereby extending the life of dust bags and filters.

    • @JayJamesGuitars
      @JayJamesGuitars Před 6 měsíci

      @1man1guitarletsgo yeah to be fair I'm sure I could find a cheap extractor on ebay that would do a better job 🤔 , I may have to have a little search. Luckily though I shouldn't be doing much if any MDF cutting moving forward as it was just for the dishes, I may use some for jigs but in very small quantities.

    • @JayJamesGuitars
      @JayJamesGuitars Před 7 měsíci

      Yes the ceiling is not ideal but in an ideal world I'd have a huge workspace and all the tools I need. I am focusing on spending on the things that will get me up and running quickest, I appreciate the concern but can certainly assure you it is a steel reinforced massive slab of concrete set back in the 50s when they totally over built and over engineered everything, it is perfectly safe just ugly 😆, and for that I can only apologise.

    @Everyman777 Před 7 měsíci

    I know you have to work with what you've got, but that workshop seems very narrow. You probably imagine your nice guitsr creations sitting nicely on the workbench, but there are bound to be times when you are swinging them around the room (sighting etc). Have you thought about covering the brick walls with something, say polystyrene tiles to protect against unfortunate bumps and dings? Hope it all goes well, and I look forward to your progress videos. Cheers mate.
