Hello Kitty was one of the first cartoon characters I’ve liked. My first birthday was Hello Kitty themed. I had a lot of merchandise such as toys, plushies, clothes, and DVDs of it. I grew up watching every single show mentioned in the video. And it sucks how people in school peer pressure us to stop liking our favorite things. Though the reason to why I stopped liking Hello Kitty for a while was different, as nobody made fun of me for liking it. I even had friends who liked it and all of my classmates knew how much I liked it, that I got many birthday cards with Hello Kitty drawings on them from my classmates. But then, a creepypasta about the “true story” of Hello Kitty was becoming popular among my classmates, especially with Latinos, and most of my classmates including myself were/are Hispanic. I had classmates telling me that Hello Kitty was “demonic” and how Hello Kitty meant “Hello Demon”. My friend who also loved Hello Kitty stopped liking it because of that, and after that I lost interest on it. But years later, I start to be interested in it again and my friend as well. Because we know now that the “true story” is BS. Also, there shouldn’t be any shame about liking Hello Kitty because you’re “old”. My mom is 50 and loves Hello Kitty, and she’s the reason why I loved it growing up. She used to use me as an excuse when I was little on why she had Hello Kitty stuff, but now she isn’t ashamed. I’m 19 years old and still like to watch cartoons, and I especially love Hello Kitty. Last year, I bought a Hello Kitty hoodie and it’s one of the first Hello Kitty pieces of clothings I’ve had in like 10 years.

I was actually really scared of the PBS Kids logo of all things. We’re talking crying, screaming, running out of room, etc. I barely remembered being scared of it until it randomly came up in a therapy session.

I got the first issue Japanese DVD for cheap it is region 2 but with a multi region player you get the film in anamorphic widescreen with the Fox dub.

The Ghibli Ga Ippai Laserdisc set is great. It has all those old dubs except for Warriors of the Wind which did get a VHS release in the US. Just the Pre Disney dubs.

Furry Tale Theater had the best lineup and Japan was wrong for not integrating characters like Catnip and Grinder. That was an adaptation done right

The first Star Wars film to use the THX sound system was actually Episode 6 - “The Return of The Jedi” (1983), not Episode 4 - “A New Hope” (1977), that used Dolby Stereo

The FOX dub is Beloved. I’m sad it’s no longer available and I don’t think it’s on the recent release. Thank goodness I have it on DVD but would love if the dub was included on the next dvd/bluray release for Totoro

I don’t understand why this got redubbed it was well voice acted . The sisters voices fit them especially Satisuki voice since she was older then mei. And to me the most insulting part of the re-dub was the voice effects for Totoro and the cat bus. I remember it gave me chills when they would growl now it just sounds like some guy pretending to be a cat.

Me and my gf recently acquired a vhs copy of the totoro fox dub. Believe it or not we got it on facebook marketplace for 3 dollars. It's now her favourite dub.

CINAR scared the living mess out of me when I was little. Nightmares and all. This was at the end of Arthur, Caillou, Zoboombafoo, and other PBS shows I believe.

The logos that where unsettling were THX, Warner Bros. Home Video with the clouds in the sky, Paramount feature presentation bumper, Walt Disney Home Video from 1986 because it fades in with a blue circle and the red font, the music was creepy too. I'm not sure if you saw that one before. And FBI warning screens were also my childhood fears.

I felt the same way when I was a kid from watching VHS tapes lol. I grew out of it.

As a collector, I’ve seen prices be high to where no one can afford the item and all of a sudden the items price drops drastically overtime, the same thing happened with me with the dvd of fox dub, back in 2022 the cheapest I could find it was $79.99 but as recent as today, I bought it brand new for $21. The 2003 dvd of Kiki’s delivery service was also the same way for me, it was super expensive to buy back in 2022 but all of a sudden the price drops down overtime. It’s weird. As for my thoughts on both dubs, you honestly can’t go wrong with either, they’re both good dubs,

IMO This Fox/Japanese Airline dub of My Neighbor Totoro is what i like to call the mandela effect where I only saw it once and remembered nothing about it cause I mostly watched in Japanese before the Disney/Gkids and because Gkids has the Disney dub I guess the JAL dub is obscure to find.

I watched maybe every episode of furry tale theatre when I was 6 so this was a mind hole to my past !!!!!!! The way Sanrio girlies are coming out of the woodwork so thank you for speaking on it!!!!

Star Wars absolutely took over as soon as it came out. Everything copied Star Wars right off the bat and it was so huge the studio demanded he make more. Which sequels are huge now but werent really a huge thing outside of Horror movies until Star Wars. Im just saying it was definitely well big enough for Hello Kitty to parody. Honestly they were pretty late because this woulda been after episode 5 and 6 would have basically destroyed all other 80s pop culture. Star Wars is the biggest franchise of all time 30 years before Disney has done their best to capitalize on that and ruin that.

Honestly, I've never seen any of these shows but definitely grew up loving any Hello Kitty merch. I always seen screenshots from these shows on memes so your video did educate me more on what shows they actually come from.

I was a HUGE Hello Kitty fan around 2nd grade, and rented so many Hello Kitty DVDs from the video store. The memory of the “magic bag” episode of Hello Kitty’s Paradise will forever be special to me somehow. I also owned a Furry Tale Theater DVD and always thought their take on the Sanrio characters (and creating original characters for the show) was interesting.

I LOVED Hello Kitty and Friends and Hello Kitty's Paradise. I vividly remember the circus and the shadow puppet episodes.

It's gotta suck being shamed for liking something someone else views as "For little kids" no matter what.

I remember I watched the Hello Kitty and Friends anime. And the first episode I watched was the alice in wonderland one. I think that's how I got introduced to anime lol :)

I don't know about you guys, but I miss Catnip. She seemed like a cool rival to Hello Kitty. I can imagine her being marketed to the edgy girl demographic if Sanrio kept her past Furry Tail Theater. Another cool thing is that she was played by my favorite voice actress, Cree Summer! If you recognize the character in my pfp, you can probably tell I'm a big fan of her. 😅
