Beautiful 😂
this is such a brilliant performance! all the other recordings dont allow you to hear the piano part in its full beauty!
❤❤❤
From a trumpet perspective it sounds alot better from a different angle 😊
It was 30 degrees celcius outside and I had goosebumps throughout when I heard this on the radio.
The Padstow lifeboat station was further south from my grandmother's house -- our local lifeboat station was in the harbour beneath the clifftop her house stood on.
This piece of music was written as a memorial to the lifeboat crew members who lost their lives going to the rescue -- it brings tears to my eyes. My uncle survived his lifeboat days. Some crew members further along the coast died.
The foghorn note is the ships siren signalling distress as it was driven onto the rocks. The lifeboat went to their aid. Lifeboats in the UK are funded by voluntary donations -- the government does not fund them. All the crews are volunteers -- most leave their workplaces to go out on rescue calls. My uncle was coxswain of a lifeboat for many years. I remember watching him go out with the lifeboat from my grandmother's house atop the cliffs above the harbour as we waited for their safe return !
If I'm not mistaken, the 'foghorn' note is the tritone of the home key and it does its job brilliantly! It was chosen to replicate the local foghorn's sound, which then allowed the key to be chosen. A fine performance. The lady on the basson was showing her emotions, and rightly so!
@@sammckinstry I don't know what their local foghorn sounded like -- and was told it was the ship's distress signal. If it was the foghorn's note, each foghorn was designed to have it's own distinctive sound. I well remember the sound of the one in the Bristol Channel on Flatholme. It would be interesting to find out what their local foghorn's sound was. Most stopped in the late 1980s.
@@user-oe6vu5km7p According to a Padstow person the pitch of the "wrong" note was taken from the actual foghorn at Padstow Lifeboat Station, which is a nice touch. Listen to the prformance of Black Dyke Mills Band's version for a timing contrast. Arnold conducted it faster than 110 on a BBC film.czcams.com/video/_qzYhRQbjPE/video.html
Interesting vocal interpretation! I would have liked to see the second section slowed down a little more and a guitar solo would have been nice (an homage to Pat Metheny) but the vocal harmonies were particularly nice. Haven't heard scat for ages - spontaneous melodies are always great to hear! Respect to Lyle Mays as well and his piano and synth contributions to the Pat Metheny group.
Mike Crotty is such a talented arranger. These kids did a great job.
In the fall of 1963, my high school choir had been rehearsing this piece. After the assassination of JFK, the school held a memorial service that ended with this. Not a dry eye in the place. I haven't heard it again until now and every memory comes pouring in. Beautifully done.

Excellent performance and great interpretation!
Is that Ryan Day of the trombone?
I think this is very nice interpretation of that PMG masterpiece. Well done!!!
Nice performance. I've loved both the Haydn and Hummel since my mid-teens. That said. If I had to choose, I'd go with Hummel.
Same!!
Great arrangement
3 oboes and they all blend beautifully! still one of the coolest songs I got to play in high school
TMEA
I concur, time is sometimes needed on the Tenor solo! 😊
Wonderful.
Absolutely beautiful! Rich and creamy voice. A pleasure to listen to her! ❤
One of my favourite songs from big band that gives the drummer a scope but does not have to loud ,Jeff makes this one fun.
2:14 trumpet solo
Maravillosa interpretación 😊
Love from India ❤
Increíble man!
The most exquisite choral piece I’ve ever heard. And the breath control! 🎶
Cole has double reeds now.
Incrivel! Beleza!
It's "Molly on the Shore"....if Molly was from New Orleans
My thoughts exactly
💚🫂
There's so much energyyy, hope this will be the energy at tmea!!

ALL MY GOOD LUCK WISHES TO YA'LL DOING TMEA, I HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE THERE :))
Try me ❤
Beautiful
Exquisite
Bravo!!!
I mean, it's neat, BUT I'm pretty sure Gaspar would be triggered...
This piece is a chaotic trainwreck and I absolutely love it.
Que bonita canción de Yutaka bravo por los intérpretes.
This work is a masterpiece, and its content heartbreakingly sad.
TMEA!!!!
A fresh read of a great work.
Great performance!
Splendid!!
The ENTIRE BAND/ PERFORMANCE is WONDERFUL!!! -- However, I'm a Drummer,....and so I have a personal bias with regard to the Unbelievable drumming skills of Jeff Hamilton. WOW!!!
Yeah. He’s very creative. We play this tune. It looks easy, but when you’re improvising live with the band it’s another thing. Hard to not keep recycling solo ideas that work. I’m here to borrow some of his ideas. 😊
I've been singing most of the last 40 years (since high school) and I am so lucky to have been in choirs singing gorgeous gorgeous music. This is the most moving of all the hundreds of works I have sung. Being a part of a choir is a blessing in and of itself and performing this work was transcendent. "Turn your silvered sail..." choked me up every time.
SO EXCITED TO DO THIS PIECE FOR TMEA OMGGG

SAMEEEE
I'll see you there!! Good luck!!
