Jetboating the best rivers across New Zealand in my Rakaia marine Jetboat
58 Jetboats take on the Waimak bridge to bridge run
58 jetboats head from Sh1 ramp to Waimak gorge bridge. Low river conditions at 25cumecs made for a shallow boating day, with plenty getting there feet wet to push boats

Rakaia River Jet Boating December 2022
You are well within the control zone there, and smack in the instrument control sector. As such you need ATC permission to fly a drone there. I can give you a map of it if you give me an address to send it to.
Cheers, would love to see the map you have, The one I have shows that I am out of the airports zone, always learning Oliversharpe3@hotmail.com is the email address, cheers
Did you have any trouble getting air traffic control authorisation to fly your drone through the ChCh instrument sector ?
At the bridge it’s out of the chch airport zone, I believe it’s over 4km away, i wouldn’t know where to start with getting authorisation to fly through the aiport zone, cheers
I really hope I get a chance to drive one of those things one day. had a Kiwi college whose phone was full of footage of his wee jet tub. and we cant forget the grind hard boys. Easily one of my happiest places is throwing our flat bottom ski boat around the bouys where the rich pricks moor their massive motor yachts in my local bay (for about 2 weeks a year, Christmas and Easter, and I avoid the place like the plague then). make up a slalom course and time trial yourself. have to be super aware of wind, currents, mooring ropes, trim, power. steering the thing is about 4th on the list of getting a good time. I think Id really love belting downriver in one of these, the sort of mental computation Id get right off on. Great footage by the way, NZ sure is a pretty place
Sure I saw you at whataroa towing your boat as I came up the west coast last week.
Yep would’ve been me, was over there for a few days
@Olliesjetboating you pulled to the side to let me pass to do a u turn believe, I nearly pulled up to ask about the rivers around there.
@@handyandy345yup think I remember, in the township, I was swinging back to the shop the grab a pie, should’ve had a yarn, always happy to chat boating and rivers, thing is you might not shut me up😂
Where abouts this
Rakaia river, New Zealand
One stressed out dog , you don’t want him tangled up in the controls ! Is he/she invited next time?
Yup always invited, I do leave her at home sometimes she’s 99% good on the boat, she loves it most of the time
All good until you meet another boat coming towards you on that stream! There’s going to be carnage on that stream one day soon!
It’s generally pretty good, not many people tend to head up there, due to the shallowness of the river, you can get a gauge on if anyone’s up there, if there’s trailers at the boat ramp
There’s actually a lot of local boaters boating it! We as a group down there are trying to work out a way to notify boaters if anyone’s up there whether it’s a board at the ramp or hang a life jacket or flag system at lagoon end! You can’t gauge it by boat trailers as a lot boat main stream
@@scottmclean7722cheers, I’m a local too, that sounds like a good idea, something to notify people at the boat ramp, better be safe then sorry!
i have one question ....... Did you make itto the Beer store on time ? Thats is the only reason io can see going past all those deer and trout ....
Sweet boat what are the dimensions and power plant for it ? I have a 2.6 m in the works right now .
3.8m Rakaia hull, ej25 subaru motor and single stage colorado unit
It's all good until your pump sucks up a rock blows the impeller
They can handle a fair amount, pumped plently of shingle through it, it’s not a JetSki pump
Even a jet ski pump can handle heaps, I’ve pumped plenty of stones through mine
Wow looks like you could be in the USA or CANADA!!! ❤ amazing footage .
Thank you 👌
I live in rakaia just an incredible river from every part to explore, and take in the vast beauty, love the place.@@Olliesjetboating
Close. It’s in the South Island, New Zealand.
Awesome mate, she’s a mint spot, from top to bottom, the old Rakaia
❤ beautiful
Too cool! can't believe you only have 100 subs. I have been looking into building a jetboat myself, but our waters are full of vegetation and mud. May cause clogs to the impeller I fear.
Cheers for the comments! Good fun, yes vegetation can be a problem in the grill if your in a weedy area
Totally breathtaking! So different from where I run my boat in Florida!
Wow - amazing scenery & stunning footage...well done
Cheers!
loved the ride cheers
Beautiful country we live in can't wait to do a trip south
Get into it, she’s bloody stunning down there
Nice video Ollie perfect conditions
Great video captioning the day Ollie, nice to see you get stuck once and a while! Always tricky those spots where the river meets the lake.
Haha don’t worry I get stuck every once in awhile, some days can be bad days and even get stuck multiple times, luckily there was abit of water coming down this time around - minus the river mouth😂
I’m guessing that is our neighbors in NZ!
Yup, South Island, New Zealand!
Looks like fun.
Nice, looks like a good day out
Was perfect, weather conditions were ideal, no wind
Great video, awesome drone footage!
thats a tough boat. how can I get one of those? I need it for my community as is it only accessible by shallow water boats during flooding.
What a cool ride , epic vid well done 👍
Awesome video boss
What’s spot !
That’s a good run! How much fuel did you end up burning through out of interest?
About 85L for that size trip, 30L heading upstream from SH1 bridge to gorge bridge
Wow! Bloody amazing views over there. I thought the waimak gorge was dope, but this. ....!!! Hope the rakaia held up ok on them big rocks
Cheers mate, it’s unreal down there, and this is only a small portion, so many more rivers to explore, let’s just say I prefer not to look underneath the boat anymore… there is a few adventure dents
Comment for the algo
Looks like so much fun you can't beat the west coast on a good day
Loved it .... thanks
Absolutely stunning. Thanks for posting
Cheers mate
Pretty much the exact trip I did last month 😂 great fun!
Awesome spot in there!! Nice mate
Great Video Ollie, how long did it take you to get to lake Dunstan and back? let's say if you didn't stop and have a chat along the way.
Cheers Richard, we were on the water for 3.5hours, I would say about 2-2.5hours return, we had quite a few stops, lots of little off shoot streams to explore too
@@Olliesjetboating Thanks and is it much further to Wanaka Lake launch point? Or would you recommend launching from where you did?
@@NZRFoster no not much further at all, but you can not boat that stretch between Albert town and lake wanaka year round, only a certain few months, I’d have to look it up, can’t remember off top of my head which months, but Albert town launching is perfect, nice concrete ramp there
@@Olliesjetboating thanks dude
Hey man, did u go from the Rakaia huts to the gorge? How much fuel did u go through?
Sorry only just seen this comment, I have done that before and used about 65L, 150km round trip Have also done waimak SH1 to walkers hut return at 90L for near 200km Cheers ollie
Nice one Ollie, enjoyed the video.
Awesome to see the wee rakaia out and about. Good work mate.
Cheers mate, she’s definatly been getting a lot of use, all over the south
