I respectfully disagree with so many points you make here. People aren't rude here. We just tend not to engage a lot in small-talk. It can be seen as rude if you're not used to it. Further, if you're in trouble and ask for help, you'll get it. It's true that Boston driving habits are different. Two skills to master: 1) The "Massachusetts Left" (where you turn left at a traffic light before the oncoming traffic gets there). 2) Take nothing personally. People are just trying to get to where they're going despite a million obstacles. Watch and learn from the cab drivers, and remember the golden rule of Boston driving: "Me first"

I’ve been here 55 years except for a 12 yr stint on the West Coast. Everything you say is completely true but I’ve married into a large Irish family and there is no way they will let me in to their clan because I am not a “Bostonian”. Luckily I get to travel a lot and live in Florida for the Winter so life is bearable.

If you lived right in downtown Boston then ya. I can see you wouldn't get the true experience of living in Boston. Growing up here was the best experience evah! Brighton, Rozzi, Hyde Park. You missed the childhood experience. Best place to ride your bikes.Public pools in every section of the city for the hot summers. Best beaches. Best winters for sledding. You can only love it if you're a true Bostonian. I'm sorry you had a shitty experience. Also Boston isn't as liberal as it use to be.

I’m from Boston and I’m not a bad driver, but I am a no nonsense and impatient driver. I don’t like to wait when it comes to driving and most of us in Boston are the same way. Most of the people from here drive like they’re running late. A lot of us drive as though if we don’t drive fast, we’ll miss something. I’ve been known to be running late most of the time. So that’s why I’m always driving impatiently and fast. So maybe most of us are usually running late. I’m not a bad driver though. You have to have skills to drive the way I drive. Yeah if someone is taking too long, I will cut them off. If I’m running late for work, I might run a light or two and people that drive under 30 mph driving me nuts! Even if the speed limit is 20. yeah we’re really impatient and we will cuss you out. It’s so bad. I got a gun pulled on me during traffic frustrations. The driver was so impatient he pulled a gun on me. Yeah we don’t play when it comes to driving. You can’t be stalling when you’re driving in these streets. Please don’t get in front of anyone going 20 because they might freak out and don’t get behind the wheel in Boston and act like you don’t know where you’re going or what you’re doing, especially in rush hour traffic. If you can make a move, make that move because no one‘s going to wait. They will flip out on you.

Don’t forget about the racism, parts of Boston are still sundown city. Meaning you better get your black ass out that section of town before a townie , north ender or south Boston start calling you the N word . You forgot this were forced busing started . So when you see that little old lady in Charlestown, she was probably one the stupid racist throwing rocks at little kids.

Literally don’t move here. It’s actually the fucking worst everyone that lives here wants to leave. The only reason to stay in Boston is to get a good paying job in the national company, and move districts without them being able to decrease your pay.

Boston weather, much like a lot of New England in general, is very unpredictable. More often than not, a weather report that warns of a big storm will come on and fall flat when the storm they warned about fizzles out or takes a hard right turn and remains off the coast. As obnoxious as this might be, it's still better to air on the side of caution lest you get a repeat of the blizzard of '78 or the snowpocalypse of 2015. Temps tend to fluctuate wildly as well, seeing record lows in the winter months with snow only to be followed by near 70F temps and vice-versa. There is a saying that exists in places with weird weather. "If you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes." If that saying didn't originate in Boston, it certainly did somewhere in New England. As for drivers? Boston drivers aren't "bad" as they tend to be "aggressive". I think most are certainly angry, but not all of them let that anger out at the wheel. I've lived in and around Boston all my life save for 2 years spent in Winter Park, FL. In the first month of living down there, I witnessed some of the most braindead acts of vehicular operation and in an amount that made me wonder why Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island don't stop insulting each other for their perceived poor driving and and ask to have most Florida driver's Licenses straight up revoked.

Hey, great video, just found your channel. You are so right about the unfriendly people here. (my word not yours). I moved here from NYC 40 years ago. I still haven't gotten over the cold stares I get from people I see in the street, public places. Even people I see every day in my neighborhood. Barely make eye contact. And if you smile and say hello they look at you like you're crazy. I think Boston is a quieter, safer, prettier place than NYC but New Yorkers despite their reputation are 100x friendlier than people in Boston or all of New England. You have to try to learn to ignore it. I decide NOT to be like them and I still smile and say hello, if they don't respond... & *^%$ them!

My only two issues I have with living in Boston have nothing to do with the cold and the snow (which I love by the way) or the high housing costs. The two things that I can't stand are the sports fanatics (and there are legions of them here) and the college students from other places that act like they grew up here. Ugh! Both of those factors make me want to leave sometimes.

What percentage of residents are lifer “Bostonians” anymore? Cities evolve, & over time, become unrecognizable to older generations due to the “new-comers” arriving all the time. You know them, those darn Carpetbaggers who hv lived here for 30+ yrs but arent really “from” here 😝. Its the stereotypes that seem to outlast us all. Even w these stains, we embrace thm bcuz the city has great healthcare, great colleges, talented ppl, good job opportunities, four seasons, and grit, & if ur not a boston sports fan, dont admit it. Just keep that under wraps if u dont want to be marginalized 😂

If the burbs of CT RI NH had an affordable public transit we could effectively "live" in Boston, while residing out in the boondocks. Daily suburb influxers would bring crazy money and do things like STEM training and dance and music lessons and theatre and going to restaurants. Homeschooling at the Boston public library even though you live in fentanyl Fitchburg. Longy school of music for kids from Gardner or Athol. Public transit to the new England burbs would create a Renaissance for Boston.

Moved to Boston for college, stayed for personal reasons, but I can't wait to leave next year
