The Night Sky January 2024 | Quadrantids Meteor Shower | What To Photo
Welcome to The Night Sky series, a curated list of Deep Sky Objects, planets and notable events that are happening in the Northern Hemisphere night sky this month.
This list is broken down by various popular focal lengths complete with equivalent sensor sizes. No matter your gear, I guarantee you'll find something suitable to photo!
These are all based against a full frame Canon 5D mk3 camera when it comes to the equivalent sizings.
Planets are judged whether they rise above 30 degrees altitude for long enough to be worthwhile, this ensures they get out of the most mucky part of the atmosphere for better seeing conditions.

      Hi mate, I just updated my Affinity to the most recent and I still can see the View in the top bar and studio settings. I've had a quick look and really the only recommendations I can give you without seeing your PC is to either uninstall & reinstall Affinity, or to hold control and double click the Affinity icon which should (apparently) reset Affinity back to default. If that doesn't work feel free to email me a screenshot of your Affinity Photo so I can try and help you further at astrofarsography@gmail.com Good luck!

    Take the dew shield off and unscrew the complete lens cell. This allows you to clean the inside lens of the doublet. I have just cleaned my Skywatcher 120ED this way. There's no need to worry about the lenses as they are in a sealed unit and unscrew as this complete unit. A lot better than sticking your arm down inside the dew shield.

    Trying to use this video to learn Affinity Phots 2.5.2. I'm trying to edit a galaxy and when I get to the part to Select Sampled Color I'm not seeing marching ants anywhere around the galaxy, just a dotted line around the image not matter what I select in the image. Guess I'm going to have to use Starnet++. But I learned a lot about using Levels to adjust color and the Threshold tool. It's too bad this channel seems to be abandoned.

    • @AstroFarsography
      @AstroFarsography Před měsícem

      It will depend on the colour difference in the galaxy itself to the background tool. The select sampled colour will be dependant on that. If the whole image has an overall green or blue colour cast, these tools can struggle It's not abandoned, I won't abandon it. I just have had some issues in life that I've had to deal with. I hope to be back to creating regular content soon

    Thanks for this thoughtfull review! I am really interested in it for my Redcat 51. I would also add that the 9MP (relatively low, smaller file sizes) resolution is a welcome advantage at the time of processing and computer processing requirements. Being said all that, I must admit I am in still in doubt vs 183mm pro, due to a much better resolution and sampling with my RC51 (probably not even need of drizzling?), and its rectangular sensor shape which I find nicer generally speaking, and easier to live with, at least for printing.

    It turns out that SvBONY produces 5 zoom eyepieces. A $150 3-8mm 6 element zoom eyepiece SV215 with a 56 degree field of view (FOV) and 10mm eye relief. A $40 7-21mm 6 element zoom eyepiece SV135 with a 57-40 degree FOV and 18-16.3mm eye relief. A $40 10-30mm 5 element zoom eyepiece SV170 with a 51-33 FOV and 17-18.5mm eye relief. A $64 8-24mm 7 element zoom eyepiece SV171 with a 56-38 degree FOV and 18-19.5mm eye relief (this is the one you tested). And a $80 7.2-21.6mm 7 element zoom eyepiece SV191 with a 65-42 degree FOV and 18-20mm eye relief (this is the one I bought). The zoom function is a little different between the last two. I notice you can change zoom by rotating the barrel. On mine (SV191) you hold the barrel and turn the eye cup all the way to one side or the other to rotate the zoom which is odd but I found that is the easiest way. You can adjust the eye cup without affecting the zoom.

    Sharpcap doesn't do sensor analysis at all, at least for me, initially tells me that my light panel isn't bright enough, then can't cope with any alternative brightness, gets stuck in a loop until I give up. So glad I paid for a licence . I use this light panel to take my flat frames, without complaint from NINA.
