    Hi, thanks for the info. I just want to ask, I’m getting a 10Gbps internet plan…they’re providing a wifi 7 router(tp-link EB810v BE22000), I saw online that wifi 7 theoretical speed is over 40Gbps…so if I get one of these wifi 7 PCIe adapter I can make full use of my internet speed right???!!

    • @MikeFaucher
      @MikeFaucher Před 5 hodinami

      Currently it is next to impossible to max out a 10Gbps connection on Wi-Fi so I doubt you will get there. That said, you will a very nice speed bump compared to current standards. Realistically, 10Gbps will only be achievable with ethernet. Even with the latest MLO features enabled in Wi-Fi 7, the "best" you can expect is half of that. Let me know what speeds you actually get.

    I probably wont get an answer to this, but Ill ask anyway. I have it set to hardware RAID1 with only two drives so I have the option to add two additional drives down the line. However, I would like to know if I add the two drives of the same size, will they automatically be configured to RAID1 or will it wipe out my existing array? This is extremely important!

    • @MikeFaucher
      @MikeFaucher Před 2 dny

      I have not tried this exact combination so I can't speak from experience, however, my understanding, it that you will have to add two more drives and create a second raid1 set. I would shoot this question to QNAP before trying it out if this is critical data.

    mike i bit the bullet and getting wifi7. for ap i went with tplink eap-773 for client i went with the samsung s24 ultra the eap has a 10g-tbase port, but i don't have a 10g tbase port switch. so i also had to get a sfp+ 10g-tbase module. for affordability it's still within range now, but you can get a wifi 6e ap or mesh for half the price, meaning for a 2pack mesh wifi 6e you can pay half the price of a single wifi 7 unit. also there are not many clients out there. the cheapest ones are the china smartphone brands. The cheapest western brand is the google pixel 8, but that doesn't have 320 MHz band. The samsung s24 Ultra which i am getting does. i also want to mention, the intel wifi7 cards do not work on amd systems. instead, you may want to use the qualcom chipsets e.g. like the msi wifi 7 pcie addon card (this has the qualcom chip) should work on amd systems. This is probably the cheapest way to add wifi 7 to a client device (e.g. desktop pc) If you want the best wifi 7 experience, the Asus ZenWiFi BQ16 Pro is it. Because it has the combination of AFC and MLO which are killer features (note: you of course need a wifi7 client device to benefir from this). The afc especially makes the range for the 6GHz supposedly similar to that of the 5GHz. without it, expect the 6GHz to be a much short range by comparison.

In future i might upgrade to a proper 10g base t switch with poe++ so the later will probably be what i go with.

    Hi Mike, thanks for your video, I have done exactly as you describe in your video, what I wanted is to create a Guest network, I have Unifi AP, first created VLAN in Sophos, then created the DHCP server and a rule on the firewall that everything from the LAN that comes from VLAN traffic should go through the WAN, the problem I have is that no IP addresses are assigned, there is nothing on the logs on Sophos. I've searched online and can't find anything, I tried the same thing with Zyxel, Fortigate works perfectly. The problem is clearly Sophos no doubt about it but the question is why? What I have found is this: system dhcp static-entry-scope global system dhcp conf-generation-method new What do you think and do you really need to run these commands?

I searched for the cause of the problem but can't find any solution. What I can understand the problem is Sophos, that's for sure the question is what. Thanks again for your time. Cheers!

    This is a clearer explanation than the Tailscale one. Just one question: Is all traffic encrypted, including the devices accessed via subnet?

    • @MikeFaucher
      @MikeFaucher Před 26 dny

      Great question. Yes, everything is encrypted point to point but once you exit from the subnet router into your local LAN, it is just like being at home. It is a very secure way to access all your local stuff. Thanks for the feedback.

      @@MikeFaucher My pleasure Mike. Longtime Apple Systems Engineer… I can think of some potentially cool Synology NAS processes that might be of interest to people..and potential You Tube videos. For example data sync / backup. rsync local files to the NAS, (instead of a Time Machine backup), which can be riddled with issues. Rsync is sweet once you get the command and flags right. Just one example of some practical processes that could be valuable to users of a NAS and uses of a NAS, it’s all about our data and managing it efficiently….

    Mike thanks, your video is helping, but what I need is directions on how to back up. The first drive 8 gig is for files like music and the second drive has to be the back up from the first. How do I implement that? grtz Jan (Netherlands)

    • @MikeFaucher
      @MikeFaucher Před 27 dny

      If you set the drives up when you first get the device to be independent drives, you can do that with their backup or sync program. The best way, however, is to let it set up the raid and have full drive redundancy which is the default, and then back up to an external drive. Check out this video as it may help you (czcams.com/video/tP_QKtJ0BTo/video.html)

      @@MikeFaucher Hi Mike, thanks for the link. Do I understand you right? I configured the NAS to raid1. So it automatically backs up the first drive to the second drive? That would be oké! How can I check that for sure. I can’t approach the second drive and have a look if it backed up allright?

    • @MikeFaucher
      @MikeFaucher Před 26 dny

      @@janspel134 In RAID 1, it is not really a backup but a redundancy. It contains the same information all the time, and information is always duplicated, but you can not access the second drive directly. To tell the configuration, go into your storage manager, click on STORAGE, and then click on STORAGE POOL, and see what is says next to the info section next to RAID type. Typically, the storage capacity will be equal to one drive. Another words, 2 4T drives gives you only 4T of usable space..
