Finally the answer to "What do Brits do when it's raining". We have 55" of rain/year where I live. You're giving me ideas.
Totally correct! The indoor season starts in earnest in a couple of month time.... it's a great format for trying out concepts quickly and simply.
That's not soring it has an electric motor. If you can't launch by hand and have your model stay in the air, it's too heavy!
@miniphase, this is another amazing build of yours ... I know you are a fun of nurflugel or flying wing gliders - not sure how to call them but they are the once with a constant wing chord and wingspan more than 2m. I am now along a build of one of this type of 1.9m wingspan. But, I would like to ask you if I would look for a next project 2-2.5m wingspan and willing to design/build a similar to Horten or even a Horten wing, what would you recommend I should look for?
Great to hear from you! I've not built any Hortens (yet). But how about something like this?- czcams.com/video/YVTcdg9LxOc/video.html
@@miniphase In the end I decided to build a similar CO8 (from aerodesign_de ) that is scaled down to 1.9m span ( max of my bench without joining wing parts ), 187mm chord a 25deg sweep back and MH60 airfoil. I also added a motor in front . I tried a maiden yesterday but it did not went well. I set CG at 10% of MAC but it behaves like it is really tail heavy. Also motor I installed tilted down 3 deg but I will have to tilt it more. Can you please help, tell what is you CG location on your wings? The motor is 10-12mm below chord line and at 90mm from wing leading edge , can you suggest what should be a correct tit angle? Thanks
What a lovely Minimoa! Smooth Toplanding! Thank´s 4 sharing Bes regards
Glad you enjoyed it sir!
Thanks for the reply will getting one.😊
What models are they!😊
SAS Wildthing 46" Sir! Happy flying!!
I've also flew this thing. It's a thermal indicator due to the low wing load:) So relaxing that I can even put my attention away from the plane for a while and come back again.
It certainly looks like a docile model!
Very good Paul
Your glue gun saved the day Pete!
Where is this being flown???
@barrycole8378 Hi Barry, Thurnham, near Maidstone, Kent.
You should design and sell some 3D prints of that😊
Took me a while to warm to flying foam. Now I have about 10. Including both Evo and trek Alula!
Foam definitely has its uses!
Wow so beautiful! Stunning! Would love to circle that soarer with my miniquad. What's the construction? Balsa?
I dream of seeing some footage like that, glad you enjoyed it! Construction is foam with fiibreglass and veneer, plus a little bit of carbon here and there.
Majestic
Thank you Daniel, I'm very happy with it!
Stunning .. glad to see it flying again 👍🏻👌
Cheers Jeff.... it's a newer, bigger, heavier one this time around!
@@miniphase blimy .. the previous one was a monster .. happy landings mate
So a plank with ailerons and a V tail. I wonder if it could fly with just the V tail? It has enough dihedral to do a rudder only turn.
I wondered that too.... also it's got my itch increasing to do a big pterodactyl or similar!
It could, because the dihedral of the wintip is enough. There's a no-aileron version. And... If you wish, you can change the mounting angle of the motor so it gives a 2-channel model like feeling. Add throttle, it would climb without elevator control and vice versa. More relaxing.
That is so real
Hi, I know you make foam core wings. Can you please explain how you build the washout in the foam core and sheeting? You may have a build thread on RCU or RCGroups it would be much appreciated if you could share.
Hi Cristian, good to hear from you. I just cut the cores with one of the aerofoil templates set at the required angle. When I sheet the wing, I place vacuum bagged layup back in the core outers, to prevent any unwanted twist to creep in as the resin cures.
I have this glider and I was wondering if you could slope it. Would you say light wind only or do you think it could handle 15mph wind? Thanks, looked like it flew nicely!
Personally I'd stick to lighter conditions only... happy flying!
Bk g music crappy and loud
GREAT video. Was that a Crow breaking set up used to slow the wing down for landing.
Thanks! The flaps are just about pitch neutral, IIRC they needed a touch of up elevon trim.... it's all in the correct sizing of the control surfaces..
Parabéns pelo seu Sinbad, ele ficou lindo. E o voo magnífico. Você poderia informar qual é a envergadura e o nome do fabricante deste Kit. Obrigado.
Art of Noise/Close to the edit…. Great track from a great album.
So how did you remedy this problem. Push the CG back and less throw on the elevator/elvons? Thanks!
Hi I know I'm a day late and a dollar short on this comment but it looks like you have some experience with flying wings. I just built a flying wing or plank for slope soaring, it is a wing with no dihedral and is full symmetrical with a very slight swept forward LE. It is repurposed wing from a 3DHS Slick 540 3D plane. I have shorts video of it on my channel. My question is how to tell if the CG is right before throwing it off a cliff into the wind? Lol! I have hand tossed it at a park to see if it flies and I would not call what it does as flying! Although I can control it and bring it down but it really has no glide ratio but this is with no wind. I watched a video of yours about hyperstalling and it seems how that wing flew is what I'm experiencing. It seems to bob up and down very easily. How did you remedy your wing/plank to stop that effect? Thank you!
Hi Mike, the best approach is to use one of the online cg calculators as a starting point and then make any adjustments in small increments. Also make sure you don't have too much elevator throw.... best of luck!
@@miniphase Thank you very much for your time and help. Have a great day!
Wow everyone laughed at his walk of shame, is this in the UK? Lol! Poor guy, poor Le Fish! ✌️😎👍
amazing!
A gorgeous plane!
fantastic fun
So bad for this wing it was looking nise. Anyway when I crash a plane, the second day I can see an oportunity - I can build another one may be even better. I have a question if you can help... can you please tell me which shop are you buying the mylar? Is it an online shop?
Hi Cristian.... yes, life always looks better after a day or two! I bought my last batch of mylar online I think, but it was quite a few years ago and I still have plenty left. Best try searching ebay for stencil mylar. Cheers!
Thanks for your quick support. I expect the thick is 0.3mm? I know you build and fly wings for very long time. I remember I asked you some questions back in 2009. I suggest you make some tutorial on how you are making the foam core wings. It would be much appreciated. I'm sure you have an excelent technique and experience.
Beautiful ❤
Thank you!
where is this site?
Hi Aidan.... there's a clue is in the title!
Just found this video. Brought back happy memories of a wonderful day soaring on this slope in October (2022). Nice video
Come and join us up at Thurnham when you get a chance!
@@miniphase Thanks for the offer. I'll take you up on that next time we're in Kent.

Indeed Trev.... wasn't the first time and certainly won't be the last!
Well at least you had no chance of saving that one. Feels better to blame it on external factors :D
Need some room in the hangar anyway!!

Thank you Eric, still love flying it, though it hasn't had an outing this year.
Nice video. What airframe is this?
Thanks Robert, it's an own design. 3 metre span, 25 deg sweep and an MH45 wing section with 4 deg washout.
@@miniphase Thank you. Just the answer I was hoping for. Looks fantastic. Do you use any dihedreal? What is your opinion on wing taper?
@@MrRobbowich Many thanks! This wing had a couple of degrees negative dihedral, but I don't think that's critical for success. At full size scale, taper does have benefits, but for a model I don't think there's any advantage. By reducing the chord at the tip, you just have to introduce more twist to get the same stability. There's a full build thread here- www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?1480107-3-2m-thermal-wing though I would suggest using the HS522 wing section rather than the MH45.
Awesome, flaps work like a brake. Just curious if you have tested or does it even make sense to use all surfaces down as flaps. I doubt it would work at all.
If the flaps were sized differently, yes you could have this arrangement, though I think pitch neutral flaps (as shown here) makes the transition between 'flaps on' and 'flaps off' more convenient.
Ripping and shredding, shredding and ripping! Gotta love a good windy day!
good wind on a good hill.... all good therapy!
Looks like a lairy one :D
Too lairy for me!.... btw give my regards to Dave!

@reverendkrv Hello your holiness! keeping well here thanks.... not much flying done in the past year unfortunately but hoping to rectify that in 2023. How are you and Dave keeping?
