How long have you had the 4x4 ? Have you had any problems? Did it hurt gas mileage much? I have a 2500 express van chevy and thinking about converting to 4x4. Thanks Tony b ft worth tx
I truly appreciate the joke about the cost of plywood 😂 that was a crazy time
@@SalamiRocketship haha! Right? What a crazy period that was.
What unit? I drew H1 this year!
Nice clip , cheers from New Zealand
Thanks!
Yeah because if your poor and go hunting just to feed your family and you dont have a hunting license then the government can put you in a cage for years
And now its all being used to get rid of hunting fishing and guns all together good job
Please elaborate, I’m curious where that comment is stemming from.
You don't shoot traditional. If you do your wrong
You’re*
But in all seriousness, that’s true. Shooting traditional is a different story and you need the heavier arrow. Most of the research about heavy arrows was all done with traditional equipment so it makes sense. But for the general populace, it is not necessary.
Im 6'4" 160 pounds. So saying im slim is an understatement. I want a pack to be able to do multiple nights tarp camping summer or winter. I was going to get the 50L but i think it may be too small for winter sleep gear. But The 100L looks a bit big for me to handle if it's loaded down. Do you think the 75 is big enough for winter sleep gear and some extra clothes on top of all the other essentials?
I think that 75 would be perfect. And if you did need it, you could haul some things on the overload system. But the 75 is definitely the right size for most applications
@@soholtbrothers thanks. That's what I'll go with
consider eating more?
Do you think the 50L would be enough to haul out a black bear if it was otherwise mostly empty?
I’d think for sure you could haul a bear. Especially utilizing the overload system for the meat
Would the 50 be good for whitetail? In a tree stand or saddle? I like to pack my clothes in and cool off before putting them on so I don’t sweat and freeze.
So the short answer is yes. You could certainly use this for whitetail the only downfall is that it is not quiet fabric like is used in the whitetail line. I have used the metcalf or other frame packs from MR when hunting a long way in for whitetails. I like having a frame/overload system with me in case I shoot something a couple miles from the truck I can haul a couple quarters out at a time and save at least one trip in to get the deer.
@@soholtbrothers I have a pop up 30, it’s just too small for me and I don’t like not having a side zipper. Just kinda falls short in a couple areas. It’s between the metcalf and the pop up 40 for me. Probably going to sell the pop up 30. And I found a better deal on the metcalf than on the pop up 40. I will also be using it to pack in sticks and stands and saddle gear etc. Don’t know the real world difference between the ultralight frame and the pop up frame other than the pop up feature.
@@seabass22 Perfect!
I wonder if that daypack would connect to the old metcalf last year's version
You probably wont read this comment but great video thanks for the time and effort put in to make this video for everyone to enjoy.
Really appreciate the comment! That hunt was a blast!
@@soholtbrothers NP I always try and leave a comment I know all the work that goes into making videos and I'm only catching fish I could only imagine trying to do that with large cameras on a hunt. PS also just really enjoyed the video.
For me criteria #1 when choosing a backpack is suspension system. I have not heard anything in this overview on how comfortable you feel under heavy load in a harsh terrain. It does matter hugely.
Even though I didn't specifically mention it in the video, the load hauling and suspension are incredibly comfortable. This particular pack ended up being my rucking trainer for a lot of the off season and it has hauled out several animals as well. The Guidelight MT frame with the overload system is pretty amazing.
@@soholtbrothers thanks. This is exactly what I need to know
Casing should be flushed out with water. Add 1/4 tsp baking soda to soaking water. This helps untwist the casings and slide on horn easier. Should be able to put 50-75 feet of casing on horn in 30 seconds. Your doing it the hard way.
That's good to know! We will give that a shot on the next round of sausage making coming up! Thanks!
Love the info!
Really cool!! Simple and informative!!
Thanks, Nate!
Thanks, man! Appreciate it!
Love it dude! Excited to see more!
What happened qith the ac vents on the roof? How were they in there
It's like a duct system kind of build into the liner. We just removed all of that. We still get heat and AC out of the rear unit and just keep the setting turned so it comes from the floor since the ceiling duct work is blocked.
@@soholtbrothers also how much was the total for 4x4 convert from Quigley if you don't mind. Thanks for the help
@@soholtbrothers doing my build with room for 8 seating
Just got an 04 express 3500 this video is helpful as I'm getting ready to start gutting it. Was wondering what was inside the driver side rear panel
Eating cured summer sausage before the nitrates have time to change is a cancer risk . You should do the fry test before you add the cure.
Awesome hunt! Those are some very nice deer.
Thanks, man! Appreciate it!
The nitrates have not had a chance to do their job you shouldn't be advising people to cook and eat it before it blooms
You are 100 percent correct you could do the fry test prior to adding the nitrates
This video popped up in my feed after watching the Gritty Kodiak hunt series.. watching this really drives home the next level that Brian & crew put into video production and the attention they put towards the viewers enjoyment and education of the strategy behind the stalks… unfortunately this film fell far short and seems as the viewer was never really meant to be part of the experience …
Appreciate you checking out the video and for the comment. I know Brian well and him and his team definitely do a great job on how they put things together on film. Always up for some good constructive criticism and with any luck we can “hit the mark” for you on future projects. Cheers and good luck with all your future hunts and videos you produce.
What was cost to convert to 4x4
Awesome. Good job guys
Thanks, Clay!
Didn't know you could fly and hunt the same day???
Its legal for blacktail. But we actually didn’t hunt the day we flew in. We hit the beach for our first day of hunting the following morning after we had flown in.
Must be from 2022. Non residents are only allowed one deer as of 2023. Finally.
Yep, this hunt was from 2022. Also agree that it was a good rule change to limit the deer harvest. At least until the population rebounds. Plenty of other awesome opportunities up there for ducks, fishing, etc. Cheers
Amazing gentleman! Jealousy can be a dirty emotion … I'm feeling pretty emotional... and dirty lol
haha! Thanks, Ron!
Awesome hunt, fellas! Thanks for letting us tag along!
Thanks, boss! Appreciate it!
Adding this one to the bucket list! Awesome hunt!
It's a very cool place. It was fun to go back to where it all started for Sam back in 2013 filming for Coast Guard Alaska and then the Hunt for the History Channel.
So fun! Congrats!!
What an absolute dream hunt and experience. Who wouldn’t want to hunt Alaska for bucks 🦌🦌🦌 and ducks 🦆 🦆🦆🦆? I know that I would. I was blessed beyond measure to win a hunt for waterfowl (mostly Pacific Brant and Canadas, with a few teal and mallards 🦆 mixed in). We also went after ptarmigan and did silver salmon fishing 🎣 and off shore fishing for cod and halibut. Hopefully 🙏 I can make it up there someday soon once again. Perhaps for big game next time. Anyway congrats to you both on this epic adventure. I can tell that this was from 2022 since Alaska changed their tags 🏷️ for Sitka Blacktail from 3 to 1 for 2023.
It was a fantastic experience!
@@soholtbrothers no doubt about that fact. Good luck 🍀 if you’re applying in the Alaska draw before Dec 15th.
Another awesome adventure boys!! Great film!
Thanks, Jay! It was a heck of a trip!
Incredible adventure Sam! Well done from start to finish. 🤝
Thanks! Appreciate it! It was a blast of a trip!
I’m having major trouble. Taking way way too long to get the casings on the tube. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
It can definitely be a pain, and sometimes there are just some packages of casing that are more of a pain than others. Maybe try a fresh package and see if that makes any difference!
Good stuff Sam! Can't believe I just found your channel. Can't wait to see what's next.
Thank you sir! Have another hunt dropping this week!
Awesome story. Pretty crazy how you originally planned to do whitetail trips around your normal home 🏡 base in ND, but being Gypsies because of your wife’s job you were planted west in Idaho with no western tags 🏷️ lol 😆 I am glad that you and your family were able to make it happen and what a cool 😎 experience with your ice 🧊 buck 🦌. Congrats Sam and the Soholt family.
Thank you! Funny how things pan out. All worked in the end, just burned up a little more fuel and rubber along the way.
@@soholtbrothers you are welcome 🙏 and yes it’s funny how it all worked out.
Awesome video, definitely should have more views. Subscribed!
Thank you! Hopefully we can have more consistent conten the next 12 months. That should help a lot too. Thanks for subscribing!
Great hunt guys! Congrats Sam. Super cool conditions to kill a buck!
Thanks, Nate! Appreciate it and cant wait to watch your latest hunt go down!
Great storytelling and a great hunt! Cheers to the Soholt Brothers! 🍻
Thank you! We definitely had fun on that day!
And timing between kills with all your fam leading up to yours, freaking epic!!!
Yeah it was one heck of a week in the woods!
Brooooo!!! Great great video awesome footage Josh! Dude that hold 👊🏾your stud congratulations
Thanks, Ron! It was a wild morning for sure. I may need to train a bit more to be able to make sure I can hold back as long as I need to going forward haha!
Super cool guys! Great video. You must have ate your Wheaties to hold that long and still make a perfect shot!
Thanks, Jay! Wouldn't have been able to hold much longer, might have to train up those muscles a bit more this off season!
I didn’t see you add any water to the mix.
Might have just cut that clip out of the video but we poured in ice water when doing the mix with the fat and seasonings. Cheers!
That whole “bro I’m not gay” partition and sleeping arrangement is in fact pretty “gay” and a terrible waste of space and storage opportunities. But that’s just my opinion you didn’t ask for.
Its a Hilleberg tent, show me the little towel & waterproof cover for your sleeping bag which Hilleberg recommend to take with you because their tent design is outdated crap.
What do you mean? Do they leak or condensation?
Outdated? Really? Tunnel tents are the design with the most space for weight radios possible while also being stormworthy. They aren't backpacking tents for easy US trails. They are winter tents for the mountains.
Wow you’re actually stupid
