Fook 伏 in Cantonese means subdue or control. The character Fook 伏 in Fook Sao/u 伏手 represents a man standing over/controlling a dog. 伏 Fook is a combination of the two characters for Man and Hound. 人 (Yahn),means man. 犬(Huen, a different tone from Huen Sao), means hound and is distinct from 狗)Gou), which is Dog in Cantonese. The Fook hand should look like a dog in the begging position with the ...

......im sorry but this was a terrible demonstration. Sloppy isnt even the word for this smh
This is a great interview thx for posting! As an aside i used to train jkd which incorporated some wing chun movements (modified), i now train traditional and also found, at least for myself, that the traditional movements/positions etc were more efficient and effective. Either way if you’re practicing any martial art nuff respect! 🤜🏼🫷🏼
sifu rahsun vs kung fu genius vs xiu xiandong
I THOUGHT that Yip Man created Modified WC? I thought he learned Traditional and as a Sifu it is his perogative to make changes and he modified it and passed that down. But it makes sense for someone who studied a long time to either have started Traditional and then Yip Man modified and then taught him the new version. Or, someone learned Modified but wants to study more, so YM starts giving him the traditional forms 🤷. Either way its no big deal and no one should be arguing about it. Just train amd be the best you and put it on the floor
It is what it is, its not an insult to be Modified or Traditional. They're just different approaches. One says learn the basics first, then over time with years of training, learn more as you improve and show discipline in training (Traditional). The other approach is concentrate the best moves into less forms so it can be learned faster, because people dont have years and years to learn all of it. Either one can suit your learning style, work for you, or NOT work if YOU dont DO the work! If you want to learn it faster then spend more time honing your skills after, fine, do Modified. If your mind cant hold on to all that at once and you learn better a little at a time OR if you just lile to learn all the traditional forms, etc then do Traditional. My Sifu sparred with William Cheung and learned and taught Traditional Wing Chun. Why? Because HE liked it. You can learn whatever YOU want, its YOUR life. Everybody thinks the way THEY learned is better that others... it IS, For THEM. ✊️🙏
I’ve been with Sifu Cheung since 82
Here’s another style of wing Chun almost the same as ourz so Sifu couldn’t made it up…czcams.com/video/Tf4R9n-zn3I/video.htmlsi=78l3k8vzgvGrA5S6
I did a class with Garret Gee- It did remind me of what I learned with the William Cheung lineage
Is there a link to the video ?
The main and only relevant rift in wing chun is the emphasis on the concept of “internal power” or lack thereof! Nima King’s “Mindful Wing Chun” under the late master Chu Shong Tin, John Cognan an Australian Sifu also does what Master Cheung practitioners criticize as “floppy hands” leaning back sliding instead of stepping looking Yip Man style! But the look or movement isn’t relevant, but training either way with only muscle strength and structure in mind with no bearing on internal cultivation makes all the difference in the world! Come together and discuss the reality of both concepts amongst both parties and do away with the misconceptions once and for all, anyone can talk trash in ignorance but it’s useless in progressing Wing Chun but only damages it in mass confusion. 😳🤦🏻♂️🙄/👌✌️🤲☝️🤔
We do a two handed version of the forms over here. I like how you move. 😎👈🏻💯good teacher.
Made it. 5 days late but I got chu. 😉🤟💯
We are here sifu. 😉💯👈🏻awesome demonstration. To me there’s the first level where we learn that the contact, the sticky hand struggle, control, and hitting while he tries to hit are fundamental. Once we get quite good, now I’ll show them how to detach. Using the lead hand as we turn slightly and create a bladed stance, just enough to have A FRONT HAND. We can use the rear helping hand and mow FREE LEAD to detach and hit twice. 1. LEFT FOOK COVER is a BUI GEE. To the eye on the right side opponents TAN SAO. 2. CHEUNG CHOY at center. Same with the right eye and jaw on that side. In a 1-2 use the first action to draw a response, and the 1-2 detach to complete the entry. 😎👈🏻💯
At 76 you are perfectly fit....wow..
SiSookGung Phillip Redmond. This was great to watch. I commend the bravery of the student to be learning this for the first time while being filmed.
Thank you for posting this. This was shared on our schools FB page and also mine.
LOVE!
To much talking martial art...
👍
With the aggressive larp stepping forward at 45degree instead of straight forward is very helpful! Thank you
🙏🏽
Thank you
Jajaja jajaja jajaja esto no sirve para pelear en la calle !!!
Covering hand is probably best used as a flat cover more like a BUI SAO using the wrist to forearm as a platform to fire with or without a shift. That is not to disagree whatsoever, just HIP INFO (my opinion) 🚫so it’s not a rule thing. But, fook is a fantastic sticky hand. But it’s an even better striking hand when we reach out, cover, scoop, and bring it in only to abandon it for the helping hand becoming YANG from its initial YIN as a helper. What that would look like would be me and you facing, and when you reach with your right hand my left covers your wrist to forearm, but the next level is. HELPING HAND FOOK where I’d be responding with my right back hand on your lead right with a cover, and punch LEFT HAND LEAD over the crook in the elbow. Fook is probably the best hand next to WU and QUAN. 😉✊💯awesome video by the way Sifu. 😎☑️👈🏻those are just articulations not criticism in any way to your demonstration. 💯😉✊I liked your ideas. The way I was advocating would have you leaning in to attack actively, with one hand twisted in by the waist and covering, just as energy comes back we shift back to lead stance and forearm right over the top of it. It’s attacking two handed straight up. To go further with that, here is a CODEX. 1. Me and you face. 2. You use a right hand CHEUNG CHOY 3. My left side lead would be normally covering. 4. Except here we cover back right hand by stepping out left or leaning, and as we reset, our left lead hand punches over the back hand cover scoop. This can be done LONG FIST as well. Really great material over here. The reason I shared that was, if they get good at it, they can go underneath the arm or over when they control back hand like that. ㊙️😉🤟💯
I like this guys stuff. It’s real.
Inspiring Sifu Redmond , much respect 🙏🏼
Many thanks

Was guy in red a ninjutsu fighter or was he just wearing a ninja shirt?
This is awesome!
Great camaraderie! Thank you for uploading the historic footage.
Why use two hands against one? Now you have nothing ready for his left hand. Why not taan da or chum kiu fook sau + da? Simultaneous defend and attack.
Hello to Mark and Hoe! 😁
Great to see lineages meet up for learning! Really something that have been missing especially in the wing chun world <3 The only issue I have is when someone, regardless of their level, starts "lineagesplaining" their stuff to their partner that haven't been asking for it. Some of the guys here are really humble and are putting aside their ego to let some of the others tutor them, but in fact they are really skillfull. Regardless - these meetings are invaluable to prevent the "my lineage/style is supreme" mentality everywhere these days.
There’s more in common between the different lineages than there are differences and this meet up made it really clear to see.
Really nice to see the amazing Mark Wong Sifu - hello, Sir, and hope you are doing well!
Great to see a bunch of enthusiasts getting together to share and learn! This is the future!
