    • @beerriot
      @beerriot Před 9 dny

      It certainly feels that way from today's perspective, where it's odd for a road bike not to have displays for things like engine speed, engine temp, gas level, gear selection, etc. Not to mention other features like at least five gears, hydraulic disc brakes, automatic fuel shutoff, and rear turn signals. But I'd argue that while you don't *need* an oil filter, it might have provided a significant boost to some of the maintenance intervals. I'm also glad to have had MSF training to always use both the front and rear brake together, because only the rear brake lever activates the brake light. And it does have (unused) sidecar mounts. 😂 It is, as you guessed, a load of fun to experience a machine built with a different perspective of "necessary", though.

    Looks nice - I had similar symptoms on my single R25 - I changed plugs, had a refurbed carb, lots of fiddling but in the end I changed both the ignition coil and condenser on the advice of the folks on the BMW forums - I don't know if it was coil or condenser as I changed both but it was instantly cured of misfire at high revs

    • @beerriot
      @beerriot Před 6 měsíci

      Ah, I see. Note that if you're making a different size of jig, you'll need a different size of blade. If you have a dado blade you can set up to cut the whole tooth gap at once, then yes, making a jig to match will mean far fewer steps to cut the joints. The technique in this video will get you by if you don't have such a blade.

  • @skippylippy547
    @skippylippy547 Před 8 měsíci

    Very nice video, thank you! 👍 I've used this method many times successfully. Then I noticed that I could cut two parts at the same time. I take part A and cut the first joint and move it onto the pin. I place part B flush against part A and the pin and cut all the rest of the joints together. Then I repeat with part C and D. This speeds up the process and I get equally good results. I stopped using metal throat plates and make my own plates out of MDF. It's stiffer than the thin metal plates and if the blade contacts the MDF plate for any reason the blade doesn't get damaged. It also gives me the option to cut zero clearance throats for any width blade, including my dado blades.

    • @beerriot
      @beerriot Před 3 lety

      By "pre-curved timber slats", do you mean the dowels? The round parts running in between the arms and legs? If so, the primary benefit of them being round is a good fit at the hinge points. If your pieces are square, instead of round, the corners will likely wear down faster as they rub inside the holes. That would loosen the joint, so the rack would not be as sturdy. Glad you liked the video, and good luck with your build!
