Nice to see you again! As always Norm is so adorable, especially eating his breakfast. I agree that dreary days are also my catch up days…usually editing videos or doing home chores in my case. That scrub brush seemed like a good idea with the handle. My husband got a scrubber head for his power drill and woohoo, our showers are power scrubbed now lol. Only issue is there is no extended handle (at least not that I know of). Best of luck with the rest of your summer and I loved seeing bits from your hack 💜

oh, we have a big boot like that for soaking hooves! it makes sense to use for icing too. glad you got to get to a show, even though it was just a schooling one. we signed up for our very first ever show, a combined test, in august. we are super anxious but also super excited! show season is definitely getting into full swing.

The USEA article is really cool! I’m bringing my mare back from time off and a slight lameness issue. We’re unsure of how much she’ll be able to do going forward, but using this as a template to tailor to her needs and goals will be very helpful!

Stretching is fantastic seriously underrated, you should do a sand track around the property, that way you have all weather riding even snow, and gives you another option during the winter, I can’t even imagine the length of indoor work you have to do 😳

1000% agree with time off! I also feel that going south to train limits the time off. It’s nice people can go south and train but horses need time to heal any non visible injuries or bruises that develop from riding and pounding the ground. So nice to find someone with the same mindset!❤❤❤

Time in the saddle is absolutely important! I was riding 2-3 days.a week walk with only tiny bits of trot last summer, and between that and an occasional lesson on a school horse I improved so much more and faster than I do with only a weekly lesson on a school horse now. Also definitely the mark of a good lesson program to really take their own horses needs and work into consideration. Where I ride now the horses only do a maximum of 2 lessons a day, and only one of those lessons is harder (i.e. more than basic beginner walk only). They always have at least one day off, ideally two. I've been at some barns where their horses do 3-4 lessons a day 5-6 days a week and it's horrible for them. Where I am now, the horses aren't the fittest or nicest because they are mainly used in beginner lessons, but they are really well cared for and I like my instructor a lot too. She also lets regular lesson students do "open rides" where you can come and ride on your own for fairly cheap. I know not all barns do that, but if it's an option it's definitely something worth trying to take advantage of if your own horse to lease or buy isn't possible. That's my plan as soon as I get finances more together. But also I find a 30-45 minute lesson switched on the whole time SO much more exhausting than a full hour lesson. I don't really like full hour lessons because there's almost too much time to take breaks and lose focus lol. Even when I ride on my own, I tend to keep the actual work time pretty short. The point isn't to tire the horse out, the point is to work together to learn and improve.

As an Aussie we say autumn rather than fall, and I first clicked onto this video expecting to see a dramatic unscheduled dismount 😂 Glad I was wrong though. Beautiful foliage!

I would love to see some educational videos on biomechanics! and more vlogs like these stretches/any care you use to help them feel their best!
