This is a board game channel for the casual light to mid-weight board gamer. I play a lot of solo games on the more mid-weight range while my wife prefers lighter games and just having fun without having to have too much to think about. My wife and I like to just play for fun. This channel will focus mainly on my solo play but there will be input from my wife who is even more of a casual player than me. We don't play cutthroat and just enjoy the time together playing games.

I've been enjoying Dino island rawr and write lately, and I've played Hadrians wall a good dozen times too! Railroad ink is my staple when it comes to x and writes, so easy to show new people, bring anywhere, and play solo!
Dino Island RnW was one of my first "crunchy" roll n writes for solo play. I really hope they come out with some sort of expansion, even if its differetn shaped parks or something.
Allow me to be the 102 subscriber! Love the game. Love the content, keep it up!
Thanks for the sub! I will be posting details for the giveaway soon.
I still have to complete 10/10 for this year. I shifted and reached 500 plays of Dwellings of Eldevale before Andromedea's Edge arrives. I hit 500 on August 1st, 2024. So now I will venture back and finish off the 10 for 10. Fun times but I still am wanting to play more Dwellings. 🧙🏾♂️⚔️🐲
good luck with your 10x10
A contest! Fun! I mean, A Giveaway!🎉
Yeah I figured I'd give back
I'm trying to watch your videos and keep getting internet knocked out by the storm Debby😮
Hope you are safe and it passes soon so you can watch.
Sounds like a lot of exciting things coming on the channel! Good luck on the start of the school year 👍
Even the better quality camera will be nice.
Thanks for the shout out! Let me know when your ready and we can get you set up
Of course. And the camera should be here midweek. I will let ya know for sure.
A teacher and coach too! Our school year here starts after Labor Day for students, so I still have more summer time. My wife is an administrator though, so she starts full-time again Monday. Great video and interesting games 👍
Yep. And with my coaching season right away it comes up quick. We have a 4 day work week so unfortunately our summer goes fast. This year was really fast though.
I just saw your post on Facebook and followed the link. Dwellings of Eldevale is my favorite game of all time. I just reached a large milestone yesterday. Apaiary seems right up my ally. Very similar to Dwellings with several different mechanics that combine to a great experience.
Welcome aboard the channel. Hope you can get some good recommendations for games you might like.
Thank you for joining us and for the recommendation!
Outstanding picks for both of your number 1s!
Both great games. And coincidentally they fit the theme of the month which was nice.
Thanks! I had no idea on how to play this realm.
Glad I could help! If you have any questions on any other realms let me know.
My favorite new game to me at Geekway! I still haven’t played the variants yet either…just been introducing it to lots of people. Also great components and looks beautiful on the table.
Definitely a great new game. Both of us really enjoy it. Stacey made it to the top in our second game. She had 1 dice and either the 1 die cat or her parachute cat available and kept rolling the numbers she needed. I'm very intrigued by the variants. It looks really good on the table. I really like the player mat. And the fact that it fits in the box is a bonus.
I had no idea there were additional variants either, I'd be interested to know how those play!
I'm very intrigued by them. With the UFO is starts at the top and works it's way down. I'm not sure how the other one works.
French Quarter is good too
I've seen that one. I'll have to look into it more. Thanks.
Hi! Thanks for this tutorial for one realm at the time! This has really helped me a lot! For some reason, the rolling realms cards are all difficult to understand while being quite experienced at boardgames. One small question: Can you manipulate the die you put in the crate? Let's say you roll a 2 and a 3, wanting to cross off the 2 house but wanting to put a 4 in the crate, can you manipulate the 3 in a 4 before writing it down in the crate?
I'm glad it helped. As for the number you put in the crate, it has to be one of the rolled die without manipulating it. You can use a manipulated die to clear them out but not to actually place in it. I hope that makes sense.
@@WilzPlaysGames Yes, after I wrote my question I saw it answered in the rules as well! Thanks. I just had my first round with Charterstone, Between Two Cities, and Tapestry!
Glad you got it figured out. I posted 4 more realms today.
I also love Arnak more on the table vs. digital. I'm looking forward to hear more about Everdell Duo, as it has a coop mode
I’m very intrigued by Everdell Duo as well.
Thanks for this video! I have felt a bit unsure if I've played this realm correct and your tutorial has cleared it up for me.
Glad it helped!
That's a very fine list and a well done video, mate. Very crafty title with 5 and dime....nice. All of the ones you mentioned that I had played or liked I had almost the same reason....Azul....mmmm.....I'm on the fence with Cartographers though. I love playing it with others and especially if they haven't played it yet, but the app is really well made too, and if I'm on my own at home it is just really easy to rip through 4 or 5 or 10 games with no setup or takedown. But yes, I also love the drawing and colouring too. Good to see your face, also, as it has been a long time I've known you, but a long time no see! Again, well done, my friend.
Thank you. I have played the app as well. I have no idea who you are. The end of your comment is very strange.
This was a really helpful list. My biggest digital preference game is Gloomhaven- it does all the setup, monster movement and math for you. I much rather play both MLEM and Ancient Knowledge on the table. Love all the dice rolling in MLEM and just the feeling of shifting the cards in decline in Ancient plus easier to read all the card text.
Had we got MLEM to the table yet it would have made my list for sure. Anything with a lot of cards you have to read or long boards that have to scroll are much better on the table top.
I've not played Cartographers on the tabletop but have played both on BGA and on the iPad. I felt that the iPad app was much smoother to play than on BGA. Curious how you feel on that?
I play on both BGA and the app. I'd have to play them back to back to see about the smoothness of the play though. One of the things I really like about tabletop is the outlining and shading of the shapes. It's very calming.
Have you tried Draft & Write Records?
Yes I have. I learned it on BGA though. I did a separate top 10 of games i learned on BGA first. It is high on that list.
Hi Ian! Always felt like this realm was too easy so came here to your video to make sure I was playing it correctly. I noticed you’re playing that it has to be equal to or more than the sum in the wine glass which would make it more challenging, but the card says equal to or less than the sum. Am I still missing something? Thanks for this series!
The way it’s worded on the card is that the wine order (the number inside the glass) has to be equal to or less than that sum (the sum of the die you use and the number inside grapes). This makes it so the total you use between grapes and number on the die has to be equal to or greater than. I think you might be reading the equal to or less than part as the total of the number on the grapes and the die. I think you are doing it backward. Let me know if you need more help.
@@WilzPlaysGames Thank you! That makes sense now. I was definitely reading it wrong. Greatly appreciate your help!
You are welcome. Glad I could help.
Great list! My top ten new to me games first played on BGA, starting at top- Tapestry, Federation, Cartographers, Faraway, Lost Ruins of Arnak, Nova Luna, Splendor Duel, Framework, Can’t Stop, and Turing Machine
Nice to see ones on yours and mine that we taught each other and several.
I also play new games often on BGA. I'm currently learning River of Gold, Gnome Hollow & Bonsai 👍
@BillyIndiana Wait, Gnome Hollow there? Feel free to shoot me a friend request. Wiscowilz
@@WilzPlaysGames I just sent a friend request! Bonsai and Gnome Hollow are really good. I think River of Gold will be too, but just getting started on that one.
Gnome Hollow must be in Alpha or Beta doesn't come up for me. I'm intrigued by Bonsai as well.
Very well explained. Thank you for the tutorial.
You bet. I have 3 more tutorials coming today. This one was going to get posted today as well but it is in a challenge on the RR Facebook page so I posted it last night.
Thanks for the lists! My top 10 new to me for tabletop are in order starting at top: Wyrmspan, MLEM, Wandering Towers, Thunder Road, Great Split, Ancient Knowledge, That’s not a Hat, Quest for El Dorado, It’s a Wonderful World and Dicetown.
Wyrmspan is so good. Only placed MLEM on BGA. Haven't played the other but and intrigued by a few of them.
@@WilzPlaysGames I think your board game club would enjoy That’s not a hat
I think it would be interesting. I'm also looking to maybe get Blob Party. I wouldn't mind some more party games for when we have time.
Thanks for the video! “Non-gamer gamer” learned 20 games already this year? That’s great. My non-gamer husband has learned two, so far. Glad that playing solo is an option for so many games, now.
Thank you for that. Hopefully you can get some ideas from Stacey to maybe get your husband to play. She has started playing and learning more since she has started participating on the CZcams page, but she still played quite often before that.
Thank you for sharing!
You bet
I know I’m late to the game and I’m sure you’ve moved on but I wanted to point out that on the instances that you we’re not able to use either dice, you could have gained a resource for dice unused. Anyway, thanks for clarifying this realm. I thought the #5,6 could move me two times (down and right or up and left) but a one move wildcard makes more sense Glad you showed the game!
Yes I can gain resources and I do sometimes but sometimes I just make it like I played them in the other realms that would normally be there. I didn’t want to always get extra resources in the tutorials as that wouldn’t be realistic in a real game if I had three realms. Glad you enjoyed it. I am almost done with all of the current realms. I have 10 left to film.
Very well explained! No car noise. Could hear the dog. 🙂
Thanks. Hard to keep outside noise out when I have a small space.
Very well explained! Thanks.

You're welcome!
Sorry. Just didn’t understand how this works.
I'm sorry the tutorial didn't help. What about it are you not understanding?
Great video. One of my favorites, too. If you had turned that last farm around you could have covered one ambush space, but 6 vs. 7 final score doesn't really matter. LOL
True. I totally missed that. Good call.
I dig the tutorial play of a single realm. This is actually really helpful in my opinion and it’s nice to be able to focus on just a single realm and not juggle the understanding of multiple realms for a tutorial. Well done, Ian.
Thanks man. It means a lot. I know there is always people who can’t remember how to play reqlms and focusing on one I felt would help people really understand them.
I'm late to the ROVE party, but I've just heard so many good things about it that I jumped onto the Kickstarter this time! It'll be good to finally see what all the fuss is about!🎉
It’s great. It’s one of my top solo games.
@WilzPlaysGames Have you played Spaceshipped? 🚀 (Another Button Shy solo game) It's got a bunch of expansions, and...in November, it'll be released for Rolling Realms😁
It's actually on my Showcase Wall this month for my space theme. I played it once a couple months ago. It didn't grab me as much as others have. Will give it another couple plays this month. It just felt like all I was doing was sliding cards around without getting anywhere. And Rolling Realms Redux launches next Wednesday, not November.
@@WilzPlaysGames I wasn't referring to Rolling Redux; I was talking about the Spaceshipped module for Rolling Realms😁🚀
SpaceShipped is one of the realms in Rolling Realms Redux. The list on the RR Redux page isn't the month those realms are being released its the month those realms were announced in the past year so SpaceShipped was announced last November as one of the 12 realms for Redux. They did a slow reveal starting last July with Planet Unknown. Each month for the past year they revealed one of the 12 realms. These are the realms for Redux. Updates and Realms Revealed June (The Guild of Merchant Explorers) May (Dog Park) April (Flamecraft) March (Rock, Paper, Scissors) February (Meadow) January (Tidal Blades) December (Wonderland’s War) November (SpaceShipped) October (poker) September (Atiwa) August (Legacy of Yu) July (Planet Unknown)
I love the shirt!!!! I'm a beekeeper so of course I love the shirt! Those are queens, the 3 large bees on top, with worker bees alongside, and it looks like drones for the bottom 2. If you and your wife ever come to SW Fl, I can give you an apiary tour. I have bee jackets so no fear of stings 🐝. Or, I could just send you a jar of Florida honey as a supporting subscribing🍯. Rolling Redux--I'm looking forward to it's release too. I also kickstarter'd River Valley Glassworks with upgrade stones. Lots of good stuff coming this year. Good video!
This shirt was about Hawaii giving life. I don't think the bottom was shown but is has a picture of the world with Hawaii in the center and the life is coming off of it. The other one I really like was a wolf with the 3rd eye and it was going out to the zodiac sign constellations. My wife and mom also got one of the designs. There were so many good one.
My top anticipated game is Comic Hunters and top expansion is for Ancient Knowledge, which I believe will have a solo mode.
Well I thought I replied but I guess not. I totally forgot about Comic Hunters. Almost changed my list up but already had it made when I remembered it while watching other things.
Nice lists! Some of my other favorites are Trails of Tucana, Fliptown, and Bravo!
Flip town is on my radar. Haven’t heard of the others. Really need to get my shelf of opportunity cut down.
We've gotten Cartographers recently & have been playing it a lot. But we don't play mean on the Ambushes; we try to place the monsters so that they don't do too much damage. And that's actually a tough challenge, to find a not-too-terrible spot on an opponent's card. But sometimes you just can't do well with monsters, or you don't spot the best spot, so there's always this aspect of not having any control over the monster locations & having to mitigate that. We also recently got & played Let's Go To Japan---and we loved it! Beautiful, enjoyable, and easy to learn, but a tricky little puzzle, with some interesting decisions to make! We played our first 2 games back-to-back! I like how fast the turns go!
Yeah that makes sense on Cartographers. I just don’t feel like I’m playing the game if you aren’t playing that part correctly. We love Let’s Go To Japan.
I forgot how much I like this game, it's lovely playmat and components and the gameplay. Thanks for the refresher!
Such a great game. It got both Stacey’s top 5 and Ian’s top 10 on our monthly Five and Dime.
Agree completely with the ambushes in Cartographers. Hope to be able to play Let’s Go to Japan soon ! Great video !
Thanks. Let’s Go! To Japan is so much fun.
Do you plan on doing the beyond the realmiverse expansion?
Eventually probably. I still have yet to play it. I’m a bit confused on exactly how to play it honestly. I have about a dozen realms still to film. I have 3 coming every Tuesday for the next few weeks. And then I will do Redux when I get it and the 3 other realms that come with that.
Nice video! Good idea to have a thematic showcase for your wall👍 I saw your video with Jamey and stopped by to check out your channel. I just subscribed and look forward to seeing more of your videos!
Thank you so much. The showcase wall has helped rotate games through since we started doing it. Welcome aboard. I am also subscribed to your channel. I think Jamey mentioned you in a video sometime this spring and I checked it ou.
@@WilzPlaysGames thank you! I was part of Jamey's charity auction last time. He is a very generous person 👍
Yes he is. I told him on Wednesday when he was looking for content creator suggestions for the charity auction that my goal is to be big enough one day to be part of the charity auction.
Thanks for the shout out! We will try to get in on this but can't make any promises
Yeah I know time is tight at the end of summer. If you have time great, if not no worries. It's an interesting challenge.
I like the idea of having a monthly showcase theme! Nice! Love Spaceshipped! I have all the expansions, too. (Expansion bosses are harder!😳) I was surprised Space Explorers from 25th Century Games wasn't on your space themed wall. Very 50s retro artwork, family weight, and the project tiles depict space hardware from the space race era! Of course, I probably thought of this because we played it yesterday😆😉🚀
We did this when we bought the place we had been renting and remodeled our den. It helps make sure that games are getting rotated through. Don’t own Space Explorers. Never heard of it. Too many games right now and more KS coming.
@WilzPlaysGames I'm not too surprised you hadn't heard of it; it's not a new game. 2017 publication date, & my husband grabbed it in 2020 right before we went into lockdown. It's a small box game, so it won't break the bank or take a day to play. It has a really interesting resource management mechanism; everyone starts with 5 tokens, one of each color, and when you pay for cards, the tokens go to the player on the left. Works well at 2, & discounts on cards keep the game moving.
Sounds interesting.
Thanks for the shoutout! 🎉 Ya'll have a really good take on doing the list---I've often thought that if the couples doing the list coordinated their lists just a bit they'd end up with a terrific $300 list😉 Great lists, both of you! I was shocked when you held up Apiary---but I'm always surprised by the "big game" choices people make for this challenge🤣 Canvas is a terrific choice...I didn't even think of it🤦♀️ Duh-o!
I carefully cultivated the first few so I could get one of my big SM games on it. Was happy to shout you out. Smaller creators need to stick together. Had you not challenged Blackboardgaming I wouldn’t have seen it.
I really enjoyed this list!
Thank you. I’m glad we saw it on your channel. It was a fun challenge to take. Also thanks for the follow
