Why was the Penn State football team always fundamentally sound no matter whether they won or lost?

Ole Miss was the best team in the nation that year even though they finished #2 in the polls. They were cheated out of the #1 AP final ranking because the AP took their final poll prior to the bowls. Minnesota was put at #1 even though they lost 2 games including their bowl game.

It sucks, we played horrible today and still almost won. Proud as hell of the guys. We kind of beat ourselves, but the officiating wasn’t doing us any favors. They didn’t cost us, but they damn sure seemed to watch us with a microscope and didn’t watch Washington as close or they would have called some holding calls and that damn block in the back. Hats off to to Washington, our future is a hell of a lot brighter for us than them. Hookem and get it next year
