Felday 2 Prescott 22Apr23 Forward Facing
This is the first time that Felday 2, a Daimler V8 supercharged powered hillclimb race car, designed by Peter Westbury the 1963 & 64 hillclimb champion had been driven in 60 years. You need to imagine how I was feeling as the driver and engineer who had restored it dropping the clutch for the very first time and trying to anticipate what was going to happen!!

This video shows how a car which had been off the road for 33 yrs has been brought back to its former glory . It was cut in half, smashed to pieces and left to rot in a barn, until Dave found it. It was restored by Dave alone in under a year. Hope you find it inspiring!
Awesome video. My Grandad had the Felday 5!
Bet he's got some good stories too tell . Felday 5 is just being restored as we speak, should be out in public again soon. Felday 6 is still lost
@@v8dave517 Oh he did, he's been gone 13 years now, I've got one of his Harewood class 13 plaques on my shelf. Are you restoring the Felday? I've got pictures of it from it's heydays. Shame there are no videos
@@squits No not my restoration, both Felday 4 & 5 are being restored by a friend of mine. Huge challenge for him as he needed to MAKE the missing 4wd gearboxes. Would love to see any images you have. There is a film being released this year on Peter Westbury and his career in motorsport. Was your grandad Mac Daghorn?
@@v8dave517 No mate, Maurice Starbuck. I'll see what I can dig out and email it to you if I can
That Supercharger whine ! Great to meet you today. Such an amazing story of how you found it. Looking forward to the Netflix documentary 👍
Great to see it being driven properly, not just as a demo run -what sort of times were you getting Dave?
As this was the very first run - I held back a little bit to get a feeling for the car - this run was 57 seconds. As a comparision Peter Westbury did it in 48.23 sec
Very nice video. You have great skills and a lucky husband (and your wife lucky drive it 😊).
Great story!
Hi,, I am currently restoring my SP 250.. Need to know were I can get a pair of the EXTRACTOR MANIFOLDS like the once fitted ,. can you help ??

What gearbox are you using, cd009?
Mazda RX8 6 speed, Series 1, 231 BHP Gearbox. See DLOC Forum "fancy a six speed gearbox" post
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion vehicles including classics will be banned from public streets in EU :-( In Germany the Green party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one single state operated peoples gas station per city. :-(
Great, love it, so very interesting shame about that racket at the end, the only sound needed was that of that lovely engine.
For mine in 70s-80s I kept a spare gearbox for dreaded 1st gear failures. Rodents? Strangely a mouse had been living behind footwell panel when I first got it! Entire car mechanically sound and fixed by the time I sold it - but never touched the bodywork (blue).
So glad you kept the front bumper off !! Looks much better! Great job !!
What an incredible job and a great film. She is a stunning car indeed.
Fantastic video about extraordinary rebuild. The will and determination to do a rebuild like this is simply amazing!! I had two Daimlers when I was in college. Being a moron, broke college student I had no idea what I had or what it took to maintain these cars. My first Daimler I sold after 18 months, and then I bought my second Daimler. Unfortunately, upon graduating from college I was drafted, and my Dad notified me while I was in basic training that he needed his garage space and sold MY car. Luckily, I didn't go to Vietnam. My Dad was a great guy, and I just moved on to other cars. Recently, I saw my old Daimler in Austin, TX, where it is slowly being rebuilt(I have photos). It's a job beyond my skill level or patience. So, seeing this video tells me more about the man than the car, and again, it is amazing. Great video and story!!
A - Spec. Just make sure you have enough chassis rigidity, and those bladdy doors don't keep bladdy camming open! - What gearbox did you use. The gearbox whine is part of the sound of an SP250!
Lovely car, excellent video and a great restoration!
Looks amazing Dave!
Hi, Hey whats your process for Anodising small parts please? Can't quiet make it out? Whats your method please?..... I'm halfway into the restoration of my 1963" B series Dart as well. I sweated bullets over my chassis too. 65+ hours into the chassis as well. I chose it for the fibre glass body too as any body fabrication is hellishly expensive. Terrific job btw. Mine will be done in the next 6 months. Also, your headers? would you have the design to share? or did you source them from off the shelf from a supplier? Thanx Andy
Anodising aluminium parts can be done inexpensively by the following: You can uses some pickling paste ; the kind you use for getting rid of the decolourisation of welded parts. Watering it down, and adding food dye. Then spraying it with a sealing lacquer. But try first to get the colour/ effect you desire!
