Best jazz I’ve heard in a while

Just heard this on a simulcast from a NOLA jazz station and it knocked me out. Gonna have to pick this up!

Wow, I wonder how many more gems will come out of that vault? What a great recording though. I remember hearing it on KCSM jazz radio here in the SF bay and having to pull over. It was so good that I had to just park and let it go through my soul.

Why doesn't Berklee have an Alan Dawson building? A good teacher produces students who go on to successful careers as teachers and players. He produced the most there and he lived and played in the Boston area. They have a Stan Getz Building. He was not from Boston or Berklee. He employed 3 musicians from Boston- Chick Corea, Roy Haynes, and Tony Williams. Rename the Stan Getz Building the Alan Dawson Building. Good for Boston. Good for Berklee. Good for music. Good for students. Good for teachers. Recognize the importance of teachers at an institution that professes to teach. I'm from Massachusetts-Framingham.

Great! I lived on Queensberry Street when Mike Stern did, 1978-82, studied with Alan Dawson, 1976. I used to sit on the steps across the street from Mike's apartment to listen to him practice. I saw him all the time in the hood, but was too intimidated to say hi. I was at Kix when he played with Miles in the 3rd row front. I saw him play many times in clubs before that. He was always great. I played 1369 myself from 1978-82 as a drummer and vibist. The last time I saw Alan there was after D Sharpe passed away and they had a drum tribute. Alan played at it. After he came over to me to say hi. I was honored he even remembered me. I am very happy people are recognizing the importance of Alan Dawson more. I hope I can contribute to that. Thank you.

This is one of my favorite recordings. I’ve witnessed all three of these great musicians live and locally played with Harvie too a few times - But never saw this trio - this one is really rare. There’s an electrical connection between the three players

After all these years... He's almost exactly my Dad's age , just four weeks younger, and still so full of energy, soul and lyricism. This recording is a must-have for me, especially, as I had the incredible luck to actually set my foot in this great monument among the recording studios when I spent half a day in Englewood Cliffs and Hackensack before our Eastern US tour this year. It was the highlight just at the beginning, equivalent to the view of Niagara falls.

It's Fall, so it must be time for a new Houston Person release. It's an automatic purchase for me. Total master and we're blessed he continues to play and record.

Studied with Alan for 10 years - NONE BETTER THAN HIM! He was a genius! This sounds great!
