I still don't getting it fully is it a counting technique? is it illustration of a loop before metronomes? or there is really more to it
I guess ultimately it's the first downbeat in the rhythmic phrase, but it's more than just an idea for counting: It's the rhythmic anchor for the whole band to make sure they're playing together and repeating the groove, emphasizing the right beats. That ONE's gotta be rock solid if you want to be a good live band that makes people dance.

C’est marrant.... à cette époque, les journalistes se devaient de faire de beaux discours pour interviewer les célébrités. C’est clair qu’Ardisson et son « ça vous fait chier d’être reconnu dans la rue ? » n’était pas encore entré en scène. Quant aux interviewés, ils se fatiguaient aussi pour répondre dans un français châtié et avec grâce. On était loin du « c’est nul à chier » qu’avait un jour sorti Vanessa Paradis . Pauvre France.

I don't think James Brown gets enough credit for what he did for music. Listen to some of his music and then listen to someone else's music playing the same song. You can tell the difference between the two, because you don't hear that hard beat, which is what he calls the one.
It was actually the drummer in this clip and his great friend Clyde Stubblefield who created that feel and James Brown went along with it.
