I have a couple of shavettes in addition to my straight razors. I'm glad you're showing some of the new users how to break a DE blade in half to load a shavette. Key is to leave the wrapper on so you don't slice your finger off. Also be very careful when shaving as the blade will be extremely sharp; it wasn't honed or stropped nor did it need to be.

Push the blade all the way down for a perfect straight cut but only use it with guards otherwise razor bumps like a MF. No bare skin otherwise it's like jerking off with a belt sander.

Whats going to end up happening is, barbers and the current over pricing will eventually push boys and men to learn how to cut their own hair. Ultimately the barbers will lose clientele. A comfort zone with pricing is being erased for content creator barbers. I give it a year or 2.

All parts of a haircut is mandatory. Clippers to using a straight razor. Beard work all of that is normal. Most barbers are skilled. Who’ve been cutting for years. Yet they not trying to charge no $300.

My barber keeps my hair tight. I pay $60 to $70 including tip. That’s maximum. Also u don’t see normal barbers trying to over charge. When they start making content videos is when the prices sky rocket.

In Spain a normal haircut is 12 dollars, a skilled barber is 15 dollars, 20 if u want the beard too. I can t imagine paying 20 or 50 dollars for a haircut

So then the 2 open turns into a 2.5? No guard opened turns into 1/2 closed, 1/2 opened turns into 1 closed, 1 open turns into 1 1/2 closed, 1 1/2 open turns into 2 closed. So the number of the guard indicated when it’s closed not open. Very interesting. That’s why you can’t really fade 2 guard to 3 guard.

can we use shears ?

Straight razors are far superior in my opinion. They need stropping every shave but only need a touch up on a sharpening stone every ten shaves or so depending on how coarse your hair is. One thing that wasn’t mentioned is the blade length on a straight razor is longer, which means pressure on the skin is more evenly spread out meaning less chance of nicks and cuts. The shavette to me is a cheap and easy way to learn the technique on how to use this style of razor.
