Why is China building the Funan Canal? It's part of China's BRI Belt and Road initiative project. China wants to surpass the US as the superpower of the world. China wants to have influence around the world. China wants the whole world to follow them under the banner of Communism. Pol Pot already did that , and look what he did to Cambodia. I'd have like to see Cambodia fund the canal project themselves. But that would be unlikely. And let's be clear, the Vietnamese government isn't going to foot the bill; they were happy to charge Cambodia for using their waterways. The Vietnamese government is looking out only for their interest, NOT DOUBT. It was sort of a monopoly, no choice for Cambodia really. So, Cambodia have been dependent on the Vietnamese waterways up to this point. Remember, the canal is in Cambodia territory, not like it's in the Vietnamese territory. Cambodia too has the right to lookout for their interest. The canal will benefit Cambodia's development. But...
