ASE test are a money grab. I don’t know why Vehicle manufacturers require them to be Master Certified. I guess they are not confident in their own factory training….

Brake fluid burning off will make white smoke if you have a worn master cylinder seal that someone has topped off

Number 4 test is also wrong brake fluid can find its way into the combustion chamber by means of the master cylinder leaking into the booster an then into the intake system finding its way out thru the exhaust valves an out the exhaust !!

Question 3 is wrong all over ...a compression test isnt performed to look for air leaking ...that is done by a leak down test ...a compression test is performed to determine how much compression a cylinder is producing!!!

ASE TESTS are bs, brake fluid or power steering fluid can cause smoke, etc, l do not agree with bunch of answers, real life experiences are different. Sorry ASE, YOU ARE NOT RIGHT ALL THE TIME. ASE should give a section where a technician can answer and explain the reason, not based on what ASE THINKS, the correct answer should be from the answer they provide. Sorry ASE fans.

I've been an ASE Certified Master Auto tech and Master HD truck tech since 1987 and can attest that 30-35% of these answers are incorrect. In addition, I've been an OEM technical service trainer, training dealer techs and factory assemblers/repair personnel. If the timing belt was lose enough to cause a slapping sound, the engine wouldn't be running. It'd skipped time and probably bent some valves.

I do not doubt you on your many years of experience and expertise. I've only been in the field for 7-8 years and know I have a lot to learn but let me tell you what I experienced a couple months ago. I work at an independent shop. customer comes in 06 accord v6, coupe. this thing is making loud clapping sounds I'm convinced its a valve(s). I removed the plastic timing cover and I find the belt loose because the tensioner gave out and the rear camshaft jumped 6 teeth. I was so convinced the valves were done for but customer said do the job anyways and when I tell you how mind blown I was when I went to turn on the car and it was completely quiet! no rattle or even trembling. I'm humbly asking if you're able to explain that because I'm genuinely curious

@@ejaylopez5387 Hello, so if I understand you correctly, this 2006 Honda Accord V6 was making a loud clapping sound from a lose timing belt. You replaced the timing belt and tensioner putting both cams in correct time with the crankshaft? Some engines are "interference" engines and others are "non-interference" engine. These terms relate to whether or not the valves will hit the pistons in the event of a timing belt slipping or breakage. According to the internet, the 2006 Honda Accord V6 uses a 3.0L V6 engine and it is a "non interference" engine, so the valves will not come in contact with the pistons if the belt slips or breaks. You have a lucky customer....

The Honda 3.5L timing belt tensioner can leak out and lose tension on the belt causing a slapping sound. It is an interference engine but it often doesn’t jump time before it’s caught. I believe it is thanks to the little guides forged into the heads around the cam pulleys.

If you think it's not possible for brake fluid to get consumed by the engine and smoke you've lost your mind. Leaking master cylinders will cause the diaphragms in the booster to tear and the vacuum hose going to the booster will suck the fluid into the engine.
